Davey & Jetta

Loved the way we put our head over the ball last night and i actually saw us sheppard more then once, which impressed me a fair bit, something we lacked i thought last year.

Lloyd to centre half forward if he is fit and playing good footy have him and lucas playing there johns one out in the square.

Monfries goal in the 1st Quarter was great also would have loved to see that composure against Hawthorn although then we probably wouldn't have Davies.

It has something he has been working on at training. After most training runs he has been doing 20 minutes worth of right and left foot shots on the run from both pockets ;)

Have been watching the All-Star game and i must say that Alwyn Davey looks ready made and as so he will have an impact like his brother did in his debut year. And Jetta (wearing 40 tonight) moves beautifully and although seems a little bit away would still have an impact in 07 if played. He is very smooth and when he has touched the ball it has turned to gold.

Some real good signs for your mob tonight :thumbsu:

Also Patty Ryder looks more comfortable in the ruck.

can someone please tell me where scott Gumbleton is at,is he injured.good signs with Davey Jetta Houli Lonergan and even Neagle showing alittle.

these are my comments for the game.

houli looked great and will be a great player in time, but needs to look more composed with the ball. he lacked confidence in his decision making, but usually used the ball well after, if that makes sense. loved the one handed pick ups.

jetta looked great, used the ball beautifully and got in the right position.

davey was one of our best. he got the ball in traffic alot and managed to sneak out of it. has great pace and a nice boot on him, probly also needs to work on decision making.

monfries also played a really good first 10 mins in the middle but was taken off after that, he probly had about 5 or 6 touches to the 10 minute mark and was taken off and then later on put in the forward pocket, not sure whether it was to give him a long rest or because he doesnt have the motor yet.

lonergan looked great, very composed under pressure and not affraid to get in and under. one of our best.

micheal although didnt get alot of the ball played well. he seems like he is a bit of a general back there. not sure if he was off alot of the time but while on looked dominant over his oponants.

mcphee played well, possibly back to old self. i think it will really help mcphee to become more of a hbf then a chb, because he can create play up the ground.

johns is quickly becoming my favourite player. he did get some very good delivery some of the time, but others the midfeild stuffed around with it too much. he could work on his kicking abit, the out of bounds on the full was shockin! hopefully johns can play in the one side with lucas lloyd.

ps with the decision making comments i know both players are young and possible lacking confidence in their first big league hit out.

Make sense? Not really:confused: ;)

like at first when he got the ball he didnt know what to do with it and looked as if he wanted to pass of with a handball instead of kicking it, it happened a few times a major one was when he looked to handball off when he was 20 metres out directly infront with no one near him. and also a few times on the wings when should have put it on the boot (especially with his beautiful foot skills) instead handballed it off. it will come in time, its probly only because its his first game of league footy.

I'll take his first game over Jobe Watson's first senior game:)

lol that works on so many levels

:D

btw where do you guys think you will fit all these players such as Jetta, Davey, Houli along with similar type players such as Lovett and Lovett- murray and monfries (while he is still unable to be big enough for the midfield.)

not a troll, just wondering

While Jetta, Davey and Lovett are similar players, there could be a place for all 3. Lets not forget that in 2000 Essendon had 3 permanent small forwards playing in Long, Moorcroft and Bewick. Also in that forward line fairly regularly was Mercuri and Caracella, so there's still plenty of room for Monfries as well. As for Houli and Lovett-Murray, they're not really forwards and will be looking for spots more in defence.

Theres still is a fair way for Jetta, Davey and Houli to go before they guaranteed places so it may not be an issue quite yet.

Yeah, ill agree he coughed it up a few times also, but it was a solid hit out all the same. He'll probably play half a dozen games this season at the very least. Getting a game on our list is going to a difficult proposition this season, barring injury.

in 2000 Bewick and Morcroft were basically changing

There were several people critical of us picking Davey in the draft, I know it's only one practice match but he looks the goods. Now you might realise why I have been a big fan since 2005. BTW, Wallis was on 5aa the other day and basically admitted he would be in round 1.

With his senior experience at SANFL level and the form he has shown in training/intra club matches, you would think he will get a game in rd 1.

He won't be fazed playing at football park for his first AFL game I reakon.

Put him in and see how he goes is what i think...but not Houli, not yet.

Sheedy won't be afraid of chucking any of the draftees in for Round 1 I wouldn't think. I recall a few years back when he took Lovett-Murray, Bradley and Stanton to AAMI Stadium for the first games to play Port in Round 1.

I think Davey is a very good chance at Round 1 selection and I would think Jetta is some chance if he plays well in the NAB Cup because he can play as a genuine forward pocket, unlike Houli and Hislop who are predominantly midfielders and Gumbleton who is a key position player.

Good effort. I would replace Winderlich with Dyson and Neagle with Heffernan but apart from that its good. I reckon you've the positions just right as well.

I think if things go our way we are definately a top 8 side but we cant afford injuries to any of our key players.

I would not of had Winder in either but I beleive Sheeds loves him so I was trying to think like the master and yeer I like Ricky Dyson so I would like to see him in also. The only one that may be in there will be Laycock as we will need that extra ruckman

Interesting to see you have Neagle in there, i didnt see it but i read he played well on Mal Michael in one of the intraclub games so does anyone have any other insights on how hes going this preseason and wether he could realistically make the 22 ?

also does anyone does know about any early injury worries ? i know theyve wrapped lloydie in cotton wool but other than that ive heard nothing and surely there must be someone struggling

I don't think he will start in the senior side but he could very well play senior footy this season. Physically he looks up to it but I'd want to see him perform consistently at Bendigo first.

It could be a race between Neagle and Gumbleton to see who players senior footy first.

I don't think you'd enter a game with three blokes in your backline above 190cm's (McPhee almost makes it four at 189cm's), three above 190cm's in your forward line (plus Hird at 188cm's) and two on your bench and not take in a second ruckman.

Yeah i agree, plus the idea of having Laycock or Hille floating into a forwardline already consisting of Lloyd, Lucas, Johns and Hird must have Sheeds pretty excited. But with that making us look perhaps too big, (if thats possible), it makes the role of Lovett, Jetta, Monfries etc pretty important at ground level
