List Focus: Midfielders

Due to its very nature, this is the biggest group on any list and typically the most competitive for spots. The Saints’ midfield is led by dual All Australian Leigh Montagna, two-time Trevor Barker Award winner Jack Steven and one of the most improved midfielders in the game last season, David Armitage.

The star midfield trio filled three of the top four positions in last season’s best and fairest, with Steven narrowly eclipsing Armitage. Montagna showed no signs of old age continuing his sustained period of consistency, finishing just off the podium.

Not the news we wanted to hear on Armo but explains why he's been missing from action.

St Kilda midfielder David Armitage will miss the Saints' opening NAB Challenge clash against North Melbourne on Saturday with a back problem.

Armitage did not play in the Saints' intra-club clash on Friday, and has spent time training away from the main group. He hopes to return for the Saints' second-round challenge match against Brisbane.

Just getting him right for his homecoming match.

ST KILDA

A sore back will keep star midfielder David Armitage out of the Saints' opening NAB Challenge clash against North Melbourne. There will be plenty of focus this year on Paddy McCartin, who enters his second season as the heir apparent to Nick Riewoldt as the Saints' goalkicking saviour. Jake Carlisle's season-long doping suspension is a significant blow.

Article covers all teams for those interested.

St Kilda will rest several experienced players from Saturday's opening AFL pre-season match against North Melbourne.
Captain Nick Riewoldt, Leigh Montagna, Sam Fisher and David Armitage will sit out the NAB Challenge game in Wangaratta.

Wangaratta! If only we were playing the Bombers I would have a line to run with......

"We want to make sure we get two games - we think it's best for our more experienced players to make those the last couple of games," said coach Alan Richardson.

St Kilda coach Alan Richardson urges youngsters to follow Steven, Armitage

Jack Steven and David Armitage have set a standard at St Kilda that coach Alan Richardson demands teammates follow.
Richardson said Seb Ross, Blake Acres and Jack Billings were all coming off strong summers, as they worked towards becoming front-line players.

The Saints coach pointed to last year's best and fairest award, which Steven won for the second time in three years, with Armitage as runner-up.
"We saw last year with Armitage and Steven coming first and second in our best and fairest, as opposed to 'Rooey' and 'Joey' ... that's the growth we're looking for."

Saints sending a stong team to play in Mackay's heat

Don't you hate when you go to a trial game or a pre-season match and the stars are being rested. Luckily for us on Sunday, St Kilda will have some of their big name players out on Harrup Park ... but don't be surprised in the heat if their work load is closely managed though. Mackay's David Armitage will get to play for his AFL club back home in Mackay:D:footy:, the Saints have also picked Nick Riewoldt and Leigh Montagna.

Great to head up North this week for my first hitout of 2016.
Finally I got to dip a toe in the water so to speak. Unfortunately that's all I got to do.

Solid first up hitout by Armo on the back of virtually no pre season warm up.
28 Disposals, 7 Tackles and a Sausage!
Looks like it's going to be another strong year for the number 20

105DT points if anyone cares about that rubbish.
100SC in the real fantasy comp.

Not to mention 19 CP and a whopping 14 clearances to lead the League!

Brodie hopes to follow in the footsteps of David Armitage

AUSSIE RULES: Brodie Morris may be only 12 years old but he hasn't let that stop him from achieving his goals. The naturally talented North Mackay Saints midfield player is on the fast track to becoming one of the top players to come out of the Mackay region.
Brodie was encouraged to try the sport by friends who were already playing.
Out atm so will adjust the font after.
