Notice a lack of Nathan Ablett threads / discussion recently??
I do, but he has runs on the board from rounds 1 and 2. Another poor game though, and I'll be asking for him to be dropped.

Once again, this sticks it up all those people who were doubting his worth to the team some weeks back..
DJ was fantastic, yet again. I'd have him in the side before a number of people, particully, Hunt.
, Brent Harvey absolutely toyed with this dud on Sunday, so much that it cost us the game. As i've said many times before DJ just can't go with any player with footy smarts, but when will Bomber wake up to this?Log in to remove this Banner Ad
Yeah really stuck it up us on Sunday, Brent Harvey absolutely toyed with this dud on Sunday, so much that it cost us the game. As i've said many times before DJ just can't go with any player with footy smarts, but when will Bomber wake up to this?
I've had a gutful of Bomber playing favourites.
DJ is no more effective than Hunt as a defender. Hunt is the best kick in our team, disposal is one of our major problems.... WTF??
This thread should be held up as an example of the fickle nature of Geelong supporters. Starts out praising a player, ends up bagging him. Classic.
FWIW, DJ has done some good jobs in the past (just two weeks ago in fact). He was pus on the weekend. That doesn't mean it's the end of him.
thats bull, the guy has never been up to it. im still waiting for when we play collingwood and DJ for the umpteempth time doesnt stop him getting onto his left foot.
I'm not surprised that you can't see the benefit he brings to the team.
It's Cameron Ling all over again.
whats cameron ling got to do with this?
i do appreciate johnson's hardness and not shirking a contest but he gets beaten too easy and too often.
what perceived benefits apart from being a good clubman and giving his all does johnson bring?
Actually Johnson is rarely beaten. Conceeded 14 goals last year (5 on Mark Williams in round 22). Obviously Johnson is not going to do well on Williams, if you take that game out he conceeded just over 1/2 a goal a game and 15 possesions. That is not a man that is "often beaten"

The common theme is you not adequately appreciating either of them.
i dont think ling should be playing in the midfield, in run with roles or gathering possesions. if thompson goes at years end i would be very surprised if our new coach sticks with ling anywhere near the midfield.
i appreciated what ling did on sunday, playing probably where he should be playing.
Afraid I'm still shuddering from his game on Didak last year. Didak leading him to the ball and DJ looking around for someone else to blame.
It's a matter of getting the right matchup for him. He blanketed Stevens and did well against Johnstone and Mitchell.
Wells was not a good matchup for him. Adam Simpson would have been.
When there's no good matchup he should be played elsewhere.
well, if you are happy with our midfield basically playing 2 against 3 at stoppages/clearances because one guy is more concerned about stopping his player than winning the ball then you are happy that we will continually struggle in that area.
stevens is a possession accumulator, he could have got 50 possessions and been as equally dangerous as having 10 possessions.
johnstone more than broke even, most of melbourne's forward thrusts were setup by him.
and he played well against mitchell, but to what detriment. we got still got smashed at stoppages and clearances.
Tagging is a necessary part of the game.
You weigh up what you lose by not having an attacking midfielder with what you gain by stopping one of theirs.
If the benefits outweight the detriments then you do it. There is a place for it in certain matches against certain oppositions.
tagging is only necessary if your more worried about your opponents ability than having faith in your own teams ability.
most people would think that our midfield is better than the roos midfield yet the roos werent tagging our midfielders. we tag theirs.

Most people would be wrong then.
Wells, Harvey, Grant, Simpson and Harris versus Bartel, Ling, the Coreys, Selwood and Prismall. On form and reputation North would have us there.
The North midfielders were in great form. We had to give them due respect. It's just a shame our coaches couldn't get the tags and the matchups right.
wasnt an issue when we beat them by 69 points and nothing really much has changed between the two midfields.

ahem...ce?
