Current form Darren. A year ago is of no relevance.

current form, not more than two weeks ago quite a few people were lauding our squad (and midfield) after we beat the blues and dees. now they crying for heads, even though the current issues were still prevalent.

historical data is always used, and has some basis. you just cant say "geelong is not playing well" therefore we cant compare.

do you think a company wont comapre their profit over 2 years because one year was abysmal? i think not.

I seem to remember people "lauding" the run off the half back. I think we were actually beaten in both games at center clerances.

I don't know what your point is.

Surely you'd agree that a game one year ago has less to do with "form" than does the past few rounds?

most people would think that our midfield is better than the roos midfield yet the roos werent tagging our midfielders. we tag theirs.

Most people would be wrong. Why? NONE of our midfielders hurt the opposition. Wells, Harvey, Grant can all take the game away from the opposition quickly, especially with running goals. Our mids, even Ablett and Chapman are not harmfull in this way.

Like I've said before.... the only people who rate our mids are Geelong supporters.

who or what are you referring to?

I was refering to your comment where you said people were lauding our midfield. I don't think that is the case. Our midfeild has struggled all year and has been shown up on the two occasions we have come up against sides good at clerances. I think the success of our backline and forwardline has covered the weaknesses in our midfeild in the Melbourne and Carlton games.

ISurely you'd agree that a game one year ago has less to do with "form" than does the past few rounds?

you are only as good as your last game!!!

surely when DanA brought up stats (about DJ's stopper presence) from last year then they should be also dismissed.

anyway, im still shocked, that in your eyes, that i cant have an opinion on DJ because i think ling is overrated and not playing in his correct position.

Hey, you are the one that brought up last years game against the Roos as evidence that our midfield is better. Clearly, on the evidence of the first 5 rounds of this season, it isn't. I don't know of what relevance last year's win has to this.

DanA's stats were brought up in a totally different context in an argument about who was the better stopper - DJ or Hunt. That's a question that spans more time than "who is in better form" and so warrants a look at stats over a longer period of time.

Never said anything of the sort.

"anything of the sort".....at least something of the sort you'd think.

adequate appreciation?

He suggested that I said he can't have an opinion.

You quoted me. Is that what I wrote?

No, I said I wasn't surprised that he held that opinion.

You're slipping TTC.

Nothing of the sort.

Not a skerrick.

Not a teeny meeny bit.

He gave his opinion (which he is entitled to do) and I said I'm not surprised that he held that opinion (which I am entitled to do).

the point, possibly, is that we have lost the last couple with direct links to getting "smashed" at the clearances even tho' important players were stopped from 'impacting' by the likes of ling. maybe foreskin is getting at being more proactive and having another ball-winner - not tagger/stopper - coz we end up getting done over anyway.

every game i've seen, at stoppages we are always one man down coz one player is not concerned with getting the ball at all.

To: catempire, TTC, and martyk.

TAKE YOUR LITTLE SISSY SPAT ELSEWHERE!!

We know you've all got something against one another, so why not create an entirely separate thread that you can do it all you want?
At the moment, you have your little fight going on in three different threads, dominating post space meaning that others have to read it, wasting their time!

As I said, go and start the "Official catempire v martyk and TTC" thread. It will give everyone a well-deserved break.

I've got nothing against martyk and TTC.

I only comment on the substance of their posts.

Feel free to place us on your ignore list.

We could all agree with one another and pat each other on the back, where is the fun in that? How does that promote discussion? It doesn't..

Save it for your church group on Sunday Cat in Sydney...

i don't want you to all agree with each other. i like discussions and difference of opinion, but there have just been several posts that have been argumentative without discussing the actual topic.

And I don't want to put you on my ignore list, because each of you guys do say worthwhile things on the whole (when you actually talk about footy rather than throwing primary school insults at each other).

i am always left out of everything

agreed.

i have never said drop ling from the 22, just that maybe we should play attacking football for once and see how that pans out.

the stats (hard to believe that such a small amount was kicked against him especially when didak would have 3-4 on him) are still a matter of form though arent they?

should really be comparing their respective seasons thus far and not last years form!!!

i was actually nearly convinced through all the crap on this forum that hunt was a big part of the defensive struggles. watching the game on sunday there were still the same fumbles, ill directed kicks and handballs in defense.

dazza,

Firstly, they're Champion Data stats (AFAIK), so if you have an issue with them take it up with them.

Again, the argument wasn't about the "form" of DJ and Hunt - it was about who was "worse".

All I'm saying is that recent games have more to do with form than do games played a year ago. Surely you can't disagree with this.

In terms of who is "better" or who is "worse", that's a more general question than form and so it warrants a broader assessment, including last year.

Your last point is salient. If Hunt was dropped for those things then if all else was equal there would be other defenders in the gun this week. I'm betting that once again it will be a case of different standards applied to different players in this team.
