Very happy with MacKay so far, I was a hater but he's played fairly well this year. Tackling like crazy and his intent is there which is good to see.
The reason why everyone here was on his back so much because he's got way too much talent to be a mediocre 13 disposal a game player.
All the best on 150 d-MAC.
The fact that we are winning and the whole team is putting in such an even performance from all 22 players is the reason why Mackay has looked good. Yeah there's intent, but if there isn't he'd be out of the side quicker than you could blink because that's almost all he's got going for him.
Everyone is praising all his inside 50s blah blah and yet I cannot remember one passage of play so far in 5 rounds where he spotted someone up. All I seem to be able to recall is him just getting the ball and bombing away as deep into the 50 as possible.
People are getting ahead of themselves imo. Shoot me down all you want for being a so called hater, I'm not I just honestly think he still isn't playing that well and is riding on a team high produced by our stunning gameplan. As I stated in another thread, I think a lot of people are under the illusion that he's playing well because he's playing better than last year. Fact of the matter is I don't think he's still playing all that well and it goes to show how bad he really was last season.
I honestly think we would be better off in the short, medium and long term by playing someone like Knight, Menzel, Milera, possibly even Gore based on the very inside orientated role Mackay has been playing.
VB, Wright and Mackay were the trio of players in our side that I hated them being there and didn't think we would be going anywhere fast with them in our 22. 2/3 are gone so far.
Despite all this, Im okay with him staying in the side for now. We are playing good footy, he is contributing somewhat to the game plan. However, I really would have thought he'd be depth by now along with VB given Knight's emergence late last season and the acquisition of Menzel and Seedsman.
Good luck to him in his 150th and all, but I really want to see others who are more talented and more important to our future in the side sooner rather than later.
No top four team
ExactlyWinners are grinners. At the moment he's riding high, happy if he can stay there
