Imagine this going to an independent court.

Judge: what are the charges
Prosecution: player Mackay “conducted himself unreasonably in the circumstances”
Judge: oh, ok. And what were the circumstances?
Prosecution: player Mackay ran full speed with outstretched arms to win the loose football. He arrived at the contest at the same time as his opponent Hunter, they collided. Hunter sustained an injury to his jaw
Judge: and what would have been a reasonable action in the circumstances?
Prosecution: for player Mackay to run at full speed with outstretched arms to win the loose football

queue Benny hill music...
And what was his opponent doing?

Running at full speed with outstretched arms to win the loose ball

Umm... is he up on charges too?

It's complicated, Your Honour

So if we're suspending based on outcome, does that mean when Tim English got KO'd a month ago by a knee to the head in a marking contest, would his own teammate get suspended for it?

Or suspend Oscar Allen for flying for a mark and hitting his own head on the ground. Why not?

They make this crap up according to public sentiment. They're not sporting administrators, they are P.R. for marketing and advertising interests.

If some bloke gets bumped & drops or there is a bit of claret, the ad agencies are terrified that mum and dad will remove little baby Jesus from in front of the screen, and happy meal sales will take a dive.

The game was doomed the moment that polo playing private schoolboys were put in charge of it.
That and the AFL is s**t scared of a class action concussion lawsuit being thrown at them.

Yeah, this calls for a Spackler transcript

Not "full speed", according to Robbo he was "ballistic". This is the unbiased media of course, what hope does the bloke have?

This is the same idiot that cannot operate a zoom meeting?

You know what's really stupid? Tex hits a guy in the back of the head with a double fist cause he's frustrated, but because the guy isn't concussed Tex just gets a fine. So Mackay is about to get 4-6 weeks for going for the ball because he then ran into someone and they broke a jaw, while Tex basically punching a guy gets nothing.

If you're serious about protecting the head Tex should be getting 2 weeks and Mackay nothing.

Where the Cotchin comparison is most apt we all know not in a million years would the AFL have taken this action if it was a preliminary final.

The biggest grater of the league is that there is no underlying guiding philosophy. Reactionary crap leading to things like this
How can we expect the players to always make the right decisions in a split second when the AFL doesn't even know what it's doing. You wouldn't find less consistency in any premier sporting organisation in the world.

Even when they make things black and white (Cotchin), it blows up in their face so they change the rules to let him off because it's not fair that he should have to pay for his actions. Different rules for different occasions. Just like how it's never deliberate in your forward line but is in defence. The rules being applied differently in the last quarter, or finals in general. How long 15m is depending on whether you're kicking to Fogarty in the forward line or Liam Ryan running with the ball without bouncing...

I do enjoy it when Tex does that stuff then acts all surprised when a free against him or his opponent remonstrates.

He is taking longer and longer to spit out a question too, rambles on then adds an inflection.

The one opposite him is the truly evil one. Robinson just plays the comedy sidekick role.

And it's Tex 2nd incident in 3 weeks

They re-enacted the Mackay hit on Hunter Clark on 360:

I've gone through a pretty lengthy analysis of the few seconds prior to impact. I posted this on the Main Board:
Whatever the charge is, I've analysed the incident, and can hopefully show you guys that Mackay:
A. had full intent to go for the ball.
B. there was no wrecklessness or carelessness involved.
C. the impact was unavoidable.

The following is the breakdown of the last few seconds prior to impact:

Pic 1 - the ball was kicked over Clark's head and him and Berry gave chase, with Mackay on the far right, running in a straight line right at the ball.
View attachment 1155444

Pic 2 - the chase is on, all 3 going at the ball!
View attachment 1155446

Pics 3 amd 4 - note Mackay is gaining full steam at the ball, and Clark and Berry are essentially side-by-side.
View attachment 1155448

View attachment 1155449

Pic 5 - both Berry and Clark are running at the ball and jostling for position to gather it.
View attachment 1155450

Pic 6 - Mackay now comes into frame about 2m away, and the other 2 are still essentially side-by-side, with Clark barely edging ahead of Berry.
View attachment 1155453

Pic 7 - Mackay is now 1 metre away, and likely too close to notice Clark emerging from his periphery.
View attachment 1155455

Pic 8 - a literal split millisecond, and no way Mackay could have altered his course or actions, and BAM! Shoulders/heads collide!
View attachment 1155457

Pic 9 - The collision and momentum was such that due to Clark being slightly lower at the ball, he went down and Mackay went up.

-----------------------------------
Mackay:
A. had full intent to go for the ball. Tick (he ran in a straight line right at the ball)
B. there was no wrecklessness or carelessness involved. Tick (he was going full tilt at the ball, this is toughness done fairly, not wreckless/careless)
C. the impact was unavoidable. Tick (1 metre to make a split millisecond decision after noticing Clark, what else could he have done?)

Years ago was it Nigel Smart or Brett Burton who was so pissed off at the tribunal that they argued their own case and got off?
Smart

Hunter is his first name

Serious question, was Clark actually concussed? After all, that’s what the rules were originally framed for.
