MacKay got 3.08 for the 20m. One of the slower times for mids, I think thats why he slipped.

Maybe it's because he's a footballer rather than an athlete who can't play footy.![]()
I watched him at Norwood Oval, and under match conditions he looked pretty quick to me and that's where it counts IMO.![]()
He reads the ball well - excellently in fact - and has good evasive skills. A few more kilos and we'll have a good player on our hands.
I liked the look of this lad - very promising.![]()

West AdelaideYou have to also factor in that at draft camp they're running in runners on a basketball court ....very different to boots on a lush grass surface.IMO the draft camp run isnt all its meant to be, i mean i remember a young luke jericho came 2nd to a daniel wells in his year i think...and...whilst luke is fast over 20 metres...put that into his tackling speed and he couldnt chase a sloth.
ive seen it a bit with a couple of other people who pole fast in the draft camp too.

Besides footballers rarely run in straight lines in footy games ...generally they are weaving to a degree to avoid opponents ....this brings into question agility and ability to quickly change direction ......a 20 min straight sprint in that scenario is only useful as a benchmark.
West AdelaideI agree .....quickish but not explosive .....gets the ball at pace which gives the appearance of being quickerI agree, the DC results dont tell you that much. They give a reflection of how quick a player is but recruiters (most anyway) go off how quick a player looks on the field.
Having said that, an explosive draft camp 20m time would be below 2.93. Basketball court or not, MacKay isnt anywhere near explosive. Good pace maybe because of his nous but not explosive.
I guess what I'm getting at is that since the Craigster took over, we've had a lot more prospects than before.
West AdelaideI think what is being said is that from a pure talent POV we have not had as good a crop of youngsters for many years.A few young players have shown promise but have proven nothing yet. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Correct!I think what is being said is that from a pure talent POV we have not had as good a crop of youngsters for many years.
How many actually reach their potential .....well only TWT.
But it is easy to get excited and IMO that's not with any rose colored glasses.![]()
Colin Wisbey?kinda off topic but doesnt warrant its own thread. Whats the name of that collingwood fan that's a draft expert but people criticized him and he stopped posting????

West AdelaideSome good young midfield prospects. None of them genuine superstars but some real good quality there. We are also well placed in terms of young promising talls, especially if Hentschel can regain his form prior to injury.
Some exciting times ahead. I think the challenges in front of the club now are to develop that youth to their potential AND just as importantly keep them on the list. I suspect there will be some sharks around wanting to entice our players down the track. Thats a worry considering most of our youngsters are from interstate and none of our ruck prospects are local.
Lets hope we can keep them all around for a VERY long time.Bit early to state that as most are 20/21 and in their second or third year of AFL footy.
There was no early years indicators of Edwards and Goodwins future stardom.....particularly Edwards who looked out of his depth in the early years.
But with Goodwin the signs were there .....his ability to one grab marks under pressure was a clear indicator.
This is why when I see the hand and foot skills of Porplyzia, Vince, Mackay, and the precosiousness of Douglas and with the game reading skills of Knights ....I genuinely get excited . And that's forgetting about Pfieffer ....all these guys IMO will clearly be longterm players
