Was bored and digging around through old posts tonight and came across this one that was posted right around the time I first signed up. I remember reading it and being a bit depressed about it because I was worried we'd lose D-Mac :(

Nothing seems to have come of it though - his contract was extended at the end of last year, right?

Dude, you've gotta stop getting so worked up about rumours like this, you'll give yourself a coronary:eek: I've heard so many rumours similar to this, including ones from alledged family and friends or team-mates that its just not funny, few, if any ever come true anyway. Over half our list now is from interstate so we're bound to get a fair few more of these romours, its just not worth getting worked up over them, the club appears to have a pretty good system set up for the young interstaters, so just trust in the clubs system and trust that if one or two do happen to leave, that the club will get fair compensation for them.(I think we're over the Hudson/Welsh debacles)

He probably stopped being a whiny 17 year old, made some friends and left the house.

A little bit of confidence is good for us all.

I dunno, Mackay, right from the word go always seemed to have his head screwed on straight and seemed pretty happy to be coming over here. I remember a him saying, following being drafted by us, that his parents were pretty disapointed he wouldn't be staying in Melbourne, but his response was pretty much "meh, they'll get over it".

Further evidence to this was his ability to have an impact straight away, his first game for Souths Ressies he dominated so much he got an immediate call up to the senior squad a week late, where he pretty much dominated too and I have no doubt he would have played a fair bit of AFL that year, had he not injured himself in that 2nd game.

Following this he comes in the next season and is an immediate first 22 player for the Crows and plays almost the whole season in that side, despite being injured for pretty much his entire first season(and being a feather weight). For mine, that doesn't sound like a guy who has struggled to fit into his surroundings/move away from home.

:p In my defence it was my early days on here so I wasn't used to dealing with the weekly rumours yet.

But yes, you're probably right! :D

This is all true.

However, all 17 year olds are whiny.

;)

Does anyone know if his contract was extended?
I am pretty sure he is signed up until the end of 2010. There was a lot of rumours and inuendo about him being homesick and reluctant to sign but he did sign on for 2 more year (until the end of 2010).

I also remember Triggy sounding pretty relieved that Mackay has signed on and did admit to some homesickness due to being close to his family and his girlfriend living in Melbourne.

Thanks Stiffy.

I know Danger is in the process of house hunting here in Adelaide, with his Mum's help. However, D-Mac on the other hand concerns me a little, he is close to family in Vic and girl-f still in Melbourne. I'll be happy when this one is signed, sealed, delivered:D I got a gut feeling if he does leave it will be to Carlton.

Just checked his age and it’s also his birthday this Sunday. Happy 22nd birthday for Sunday.

Lets give him a big fat spanking of Port for his birthday!

Was it second quarter when he got the ball from a stoppage just outside our forward 50, juked a tackler, sprinted a little, then speared one onto Walker's chest?

Beautiful.

I believe it was. The pack seemed to split when he got it, just like Moses!

I'm always relaxed when the ball is in the hands of Mackay. His ability to get through traffic and then use the ball well are second to none

I used to think he was like Tyson Edwards, but lately I think of him more as a Robert Harvey type.

Prefers the short kick, but is one of the few players we have that will get the ball at 60-70m out and hit up a 20-30m pass to a lead perfectly.

Always lowers the eyes, I love that about him.

Mackay! Probably my favourite player. I love the way he goes about doing everything in a particularly awesome way but without any fuss. Most victorians wouldn't even know who he is.

But we all know... he's a gun :thumbsu:

When he's about 23/24 and getting more of the ball, he'll be one of the best mids in the comp.

Yup.

It was the Collingwood home final ('08) where he kicked that sensational running goal wasn't it?

Funny you should say that. I was going to post it was the Collingwood final last year when he actually hit the post on the run from 50 at the Punt Rd end, which I believe if he had kicked we would have gone on to win that game comfortably. I was behind that kick and the wind did some strange things towards the end of its journey otherwise it was going through.

In the Essendon final before he finished on the run from about 40.

Can't remember 08

One thing I'd like to see him do is to have more pings at the sticks. Great finisher.

Gotta agree with that -- Having finally watched the replay, it was obvious that it was his first game back, but I was pleased to see him take a shot in the third. I think, given our forward pressure at the moment, we should see a few more to come.
