There's about 20 captains in the entire league.

Delist him, he's not a top 20 player.

I love how the criticism of Myers takes more and more creative turns as he becomes a better and better player.

more appropriately for me, erected :p

Not quite sure that Myers is an elite right foot banana kick yet.

Needs to work on this.

Now now, he is playing pretty good.

My comments stem from our conversation at windy hill.

There is a chorus of people on here that are signing from that hymn book.

Myers won't ever be the outright essendon captain.

Happy for him to keep playing and improving!

Myers seems to have been practicing using his right boot, because i recall him being quite one sided in previous years - a very pleasing development i might add. Just has a huge frame and is stringing together a very consistent season - also had the unenviable task of trying to fill Jobe's shoes in the middle (in terms of player type) and has made a decent fist of it without matching Jobe of course.

I get the feeling the coaches have warned him not to bomb it long too much because he seems to be going for shorter kicks a lot. Must admit on Etihad i like it when he unleashes his monster kicks. Also is looking like he will end up one of the better players in his draft - obviously not close to Dangerfield or Rioli (when fit - ie not often) but yeah big bodied midfielders with huge kicks are pretty valuable.

As for next captain well - i've always thought it would be Heppell or older statesman then Heppell. But he would make a worthy vice captain or just part of the leadership group. Very well spoken and its clear his belief in himself has grown a lot in the last 2 years.

i'm really happy to see him playing so well, and playing consistently well

i was critical of him when he was playing in defence earlier in his career. it wasn't his fault though, it was the coaching staff. he was clearly not up to it as a defender, but in the limited on ball time he had, you could see he could be a better than average midfielder.

The captaincy issue depends mainly on whether they really want to give it to a 23 or 24 year old Heppell who's still developing his game and his leadership.

By time Jobe retires Heppell will be ready.

And like Stanton previously i find it amusing how your man love for him sees you on another crusade to say everyone is wrong.
And no i am not saying he should just be traded or given away.

Keep clutching at those straws mate.

Myers has stood up well and suits playing perm. midfield.

The question has been, and remains, whether we can carry Watson AND Hocking AND Myers AND Howlett et al in the middle.. without becoming too slow.

Elite clearance player and becoming super consistent.. but I still worry about his pace as an overall team balance thing... hopefully with the likes of Gleeson and J Merrett coming through with a bit of pace make that a redundant worry.

It is a concern but I don't think it is for Myers. It should be a problem for a lesser player.
