On what earth have we been rebuilding since 2016?

- We have added several players in the wrong age bracket for a rebuild in that period.

- We haven’t improved our draft hand in any of those years.

- We gave away a first round pick and paid overs for a 26 year old, weakening our draft hand.

- We have given away players for older players instead of acquiring picks.

- We have retained all older players in recent years that had value.

- Scott got sacked because he felt the club needed to rebuild and the club didn’t agree with his vision.

- Shaw got the job because he felt the list was in good enough shape not to rebuild.

- Archer has said himself it has been a balls up since 2016.

The list could go on and on.

Fortunately for us we have done pretty well out of the last few drafts, nailing a lot of speculative picks. If it wasn’t for that we would be in for a major rebuild.

Thank you - this has summed us better than anyone (on here or in the media) ever has. Moving on Boomer, Spud, Dish, Dal and Wellsy wasn't the start of the rebuild. Those blokes at best had one year left in them.
Have a disastrous 2020 has made everyone at the club wake up and realise where we are at - it took about 4 years longer than it needed to, but the wins we got in 2018 and 2019 didn't help us.

Those wins stopped us getting wooden spoons which is what matters to me if we aren't champions.

He is just so impressive.

The foundation is there and there is most certainly a good feeling around the club.

I really like the fact Buckley has gone for 2-3 years as the expectation to be a top 4 side pushing for a premiership. It's a goal that the coaches, players and staff all have to put in 110% to get there.

It's a different attitude to what has pulled the club back from total dominance in the last ten years.

We're not here to survive, we're here to dominate.

The biggest mistake of the last 15 years was not trading up the 3 spots it would have taken to get a selection ahead of Tarryn Thomas.

Considering how every other club has tackled the same situation since, it's quite embarrassing really. We are one the only club that has viewed it as a free hit to overpay and burn the pick in a trade rather than an opportunity to double dip in the draft like it is.

Bailey Smith or Ben King should be in a North jumper.

Correct.

We were not rebuilding. We got lucky with good drafting & players turning us down that would have eaten our top picks.

Well, we had 12 and 10 wins in those seasons, so I don't think losing a few extra would have meant we got the spoon. But had we finished lower, put games into our kids, we may have got Tarryn Thomas and Max/Ben King.
Those wins meant nothing in those years, just delayed the start of a proper rebuild, which we are undertaking now.

I like that we have ambition to go up the ladder as quickly as possible, however, not sure it was wise of Buckley to put the pressure on David like the nanosecond he gets the foot in the door.

Spot on!!!!!
Thank you Cam Joyce and Brad Scott

I like that with a coach who is respected and experienced this isn’t an issue and nothing he says sounds unrealistic.

Not much we could do about Marley.

Yep, agree with that and it’s what a club would have done in a rebuild phase, which we clearly weren’t.

If for some reason we couldn’t get ahead of the Thomas pick, we should have traded it for a future first. With the quality of the 2018 draft, we probably could have got a future first and second pick for it.

It sure beats “we think we are able to compete with the top teams’ theme.

Pykie, the biggest mistake in the last 15 years was wasting the first round father son pick on Luke McDonald at number 8 when we could have had Patrick Cripps who went at number 13, wow what a huge blunder, we could have got a hard bodied midfielder with great leadership skills who would be captain of the club today, instead we get a dumb bloke like Luke McDonald who gets cheap kicks down the back in a pocket or flank and thinks that cheap stats matter. Worse still he gets votes and wins a B&F which in 2020 counts for nothing. Think about the next time you watch Cripps play and hear him speak. Very sad

Let's be honest and more objective, our last 15 years of first round drafting puts Luke at the very top of the iceberg. He is not hadopelagic.
