Without going into the logistics of your solution ... it is based on the assumptions in the quoted paragraph.

Do we have any evidence to indicate that the AFL makes decisions on the basis of fairness, ethics, or the standard of the players or the competition as a whole?
If I’m going to be honest, the AFL 100% cares most about the financial side of the game at all times (even before COVID) and not the fairness and ethical side of things. That’s why the AFL has 10 clubs in Victoria and most of the talent is supplied in AFL rusted states in VIC, SA & WA.

However, if the AFL got the right people involved at their organisation (long shot I know), then maybe it could be a reality and more young players would enter the competition that are from non AFL states in the future, but it’s wishful thinking for now sadly.

You put a lot of thought into your ideas Clubs2Lions and a lot of them are good ideas.

My experience with the AFL has been that fairness ,ethics , history , whatever else of the worthwhile things you weigh up when assessing options are never the major factor in the outcome.

It's a bloated Public Service type organisation. But credit to them through covid. That's something they managed very effectively in the circumstances.

I always thought if we hit 20 teams we do 10 a conf type and top 10.
Although the big games never be scheduled yearly and big clubs miss out on their $ so never happen.
Even a rolling fixture that been talked about for years, you never know when you get the team in their cycle.

With 20 teams you could do each team plays each other once 19 games, one year home the next away.
a few games fixed for each club. Or deals
For us could be Q Clash and Pies Easter Thursday.
Other clubs have Derby/Showdown's, Dreamtime, Queens Birthday, ANZAC etc
Or add 2 random games against some in the same side of the ladder as you finished if we do top 10

Must pain North supporters that every time this kind of talk starts up it’s their club in the gun; especially when there’s another outfit, millions in debt and with a 150 year history of abject failure that seems to escape scrutiny.
Tactical I guess. Only one team south of the river, versus being hemmed in by Footscray, Essendon and Carlton.

Geographic not like it used to be

Kids normally pick a team from family or if they are winning.
Or maybe from the mascot , I really liked Lions as a kid. Dad Demons and Mum Blues and brother was mad Saints supporter.
We lived in the Richmond zone as a kid in Glen Waverley so lots of kids went Richmond.
Kevin Bartlett used to cut the queue friday nights at the local Fish and Chip shop.

Fitzroy had Bullen/Doncaster why there a lot of old Lions supporters around where I live now.

Yep, shows how low North Melbourne supporters can be at difficult times like now.
really not helping them they have one of the worst injury lists in the comp

mckay cant seem to string a set of games together and hall being down really guts their defence. hall probably their equivalent to rich in rebounding out of defensive half has been a loss they just havent been able to cover to my eyes

cunnington is probably still their best mid, really unfortunate to be missing him

lot of other players missed patches this year like ldu and xerri. comben looks good but is made of glass.

dont know why so many north fans put the torch to nobes. hes been handled an absolute lemon from an outsiders perspective. thought he was actually super impressive in his press conference early this week

Poor Nobes :sadv1:

I find Kane Kornes remarks on a set up from north at the stoppage interesting.
All or most of north were set up on one side ( boundary side) and when Gws on the open side won the footy they had a clear run , cause they had their numbers there.
Hang on a minute Kane, if North won that stoppage they would of looked good and Gws would of been found wanting.

Ok he did say it's about balance of set up , so sorry Kane I do agree with you there and who sets up with no room to move on the boundary side with most of your midfielders.
I dare say not Nobles direction there surely , lazy footballers with no awareness , but lets blame the coach once again.
I remember blaming Vossy for our floggings , so go figure.
Vossy unfortunately gave a mug a chance and it blew up in his face and that was always in the background, possibly unfairly put on his shoulders.
Followed teams for years and sacking coaches to only sack them and have a revolving door , only shows when you sack a coach you better be convinced there is a better clear option because as bad as what things are they can get worse.
maybe Nobes should fold , at some point if he has lost the fight with the playing group , then get out of there .

Thinking about who could possibly be our next CEO after Swanny, he's still the best name I can come up with.
I wouldn’t have the faintest idea about possible replacements for Greg Swann.

That doesn’t make Noble the best candidate. Just makes him the only one I’m aware of.

Hope it still works out for Nobes as he seems a good guy with good footy knowledge - that doesn't always translate into being a successful coach. Looked like they had turned the corner last season in back half of the year and even round 1 this year they looked better than Hawks for a big chunk of the match. Seems to have slowly dismantled every week since and right now they look clueless. Players have clearly lost faith in the game plan and the coach. The effort by some big name players is putrid.

If Nobes does move on we should definitely look at getting him back to the club as he played his part in our resurgence with some of the players he got to the club. However, having left he may find it hard to get back in. Some club will snap him up - he is too good to be left out in the wind.
