Fantastic photo from @ludbeyheraldsun of Clarko hugging O'Halloran's family after singing the song today.

Thanks for the share MWNN - extremely sad. Thoughts are with the O'Halloran family -- Rubber was just a fine man - he would have been rapt with the win over Collingwood.

Thanks for posting that mate.
Pretty hard to look at, absolutely devastating stuff. Kids are so young.
Great stuff Clarko, some serious family club shit right there.
Hadn't really sunk in when I posted on this the other day. Had time to think about it now. Shit, he was a gun. Loved the way he'd contort himself in mid air in those marking contests. Strong, straight ahead, no frills footballer.
We certainly won it for a deserving family.

A really touching moment that shamefully wasn't aired on channel sevens coverage was when Davids family joined the team for the song in the rooms. AFL 360 aired it last night and I shed a tear for his family but felt proud to be a hawks supporter in the way the team embraced and supported them.

Yes Clarko is as much a Hawk as anyone who played for Hawthoorn or supported them for life.

Deeply sad to hear about David. You'll forgive me I hope - I'm a pom and I only moved here about 18 months ago. I got to know David as the local real estate agent who rented us our house, and he was one of the first people I got to know in Australia. Seems I met the bloke you all knew - self-effacing, honest, quirky and a really nice guy. We really warmed to him - and he drove an old Saab, which made him a gentleman and a scholar in my book. Up until this morning, I knew nothing of his footie career (AFL not being particularly big in the UK), and typically he hadn't let on - far too humble. I feel glad to have known him, and sad to hear of his early death - he looked years younger than his 57, still looked fit and tall - and I can well see him as a footie player. My condolences to his family, his friends, his colleagues and all those of you who saw him play and respected him as a sportsman. A good man taken far too early.

Thank you, sir. A fantastic post. :thumbsu:

Thanks for the post fensaddlerinoz .. I was searching through my scrapbooks for some shots of David.

Rubber back row last on the right.

1983 remains one of my favorite premierships and rubbers goal in the last quarter was a thrill for a 9 year old boy in the stands. The full back running up to receive a handpass and score was just fantastic.

And below is a copy of the Record from the 1985 Preliminary Final v Footscray.

Thanks for the memories David #8.

David 'Rubber' O'Halloran formed part of the best half-back line we have had at this club: Bremner, Knights, O'Halloran.
Played in a premiership in his first season along with Rodney Eade, who also debuted that year.

Solid, reliable defender, Great pack mark. Many a time David would split a pack open. Knew how to use his size to great effect.

In 1982 David played for Victoria against W/A. Had a great year that year forming part of our formidable back-line in Ayres, Moore, O'Halloran.

On seeing David for the first time in action one of the West Aussie commentators quipped: "Look at the size of this bloke, he blocks out the sun." A true gentle giant. One of my favourites from that era.

Sorry for this bump but I am helping someone close to David and am wondering if any Hawthorn people may have kept some old photos or games from David's playing days?
I have 3 minutes of highlights which I have put together. The main ones being finals he featured in.
Have 5 of his 19 goals kicked.

Any help be greatly appreciated.

I have a poster of the Hawks 1980 team in my garage/gym -- will take a photo and attach when I get home.

Here is the team from 1978. Rubber in the back row next to Terry Wallace.

Plenty of old footy cards available on ebay also if you need some scans

Youtube is a great resource for old footage - albeit grainy - I watched an old Fitzroy v Hawthorn game from Princes Park 1979 the other day , rubber was in that game.

He was an old Ivanhoe Grammarian - the school may have some old shots also.

Thanks for this.

I have most of what is on Youtube.
Ivanhoe Grammar I will certainly give a try. You would assume given his excellence in sports, he would have tried his hands in various sports while studying.

Was an absolute gentleman. I knew him through cycling friends for a while.

This is a constant theme when discussions about David arise.
