Well I guess we'll see you end of next year. If your holding hope we'll give him up this year you are going to get disappointed. Clayton and Ashcroft never give up contracted players. History shows that.
No worries. We'll take either O'Meara or Prestia this year then and can bring in junior cheap next year when out of contract

I think his knees are too shot to become a star of the comp, but I think he can be a reliable mid with bursts of brilliance. Still worth a first rounder though.

Disappointing to see all these mids wanting out of the Gold Coast, you could've imagined their midfield in it's prime -
D. Prestia, D. Swallow, J. Martin
Z. Smith/T. Nicholls, G. Ablett, J. O'Meara

Oozes class
The wanting out is still speculation from Melbourne based media at the moment, the same media that said Saad and Wright were returning to Melbourne, the same media that said GWS's Cameron, Whitfield and Sheil where returning to Melbourne.

It may come to fruition but it's just as likely it won't.

Oh, well, I mean, clubs never back down on that, do they? Never.

Gold Coast didn't with Caddy when he was still contracted and made him wait another year. You either cough up overs this year for a guy who hasn't given any indication as yet of wanting to leave or you wait another year in the faint hope he wants to come to you. Entirely possible he does but the media have been wrong on all our players so far this season. Prime example being Saad signing less than 2 weeks after the media said he wanted to go home. Poor bloke was embarrassed cos it simply wasn't true.

I don't recall the media saying Saad wanted to go home, but that he was weighing up his options. Obviously he chose staying as his preferred option.

"Saad’s management said on Tuesday he was considering his options as he weighed loyalty to the club with the pull of a return to Victoria." - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...d/news-story/86a9d0c8e5bc8cd1cbec4f261bb74707

Do you think that was necesarilly untrue or made up? You know, given that it was his management who said it? If you can find me a media person saying Saad was definitely 100% out the door, then yeah, they were wrong on him, but I don't believe anyone said that.

Lol dont trade and then get nothing for him i 2017.

How much are GWS kicking themselves now with doing the same with Mccarthy?

Could of had a first rounder, instead got nothing.

Swallow will be a roo in 2017

You do realise that McCarthy is still under contract, right? GWS will undoubtedly get less but not nothing.

GC has also done this with Caddy. Again, they got less but definitely not nothing despite him being uncontracted.

It's laughable if you think GC will get nothing for Swallow if he leaves, regardless of his contract status, unless North plans on finishing last next year and even then there'll still probably be a trade for more than nothing.

The same way freo will get McCarthy for free. Out of contract player nominates club he wants to go to.
Puts price on his head and goes through the draft ala Luke Ball, Ben Jacobs etc

LOL nobody else was interested in Ben Jacobs, he was delist material, that's how he ended up at North

Well he's on record saying it wasn't true and never considered leaving. Actually said he was embarrassed by the incorrect media reports.

Rather back ourselves in instead of bending over for the Roos, who will still give us nothing of worth anyway.

I've said it before and I'll say it again David has had ample opportunity to leave but has recommitted to the club every time.

His brother is coming to the end of his career so the temptation is now less than what it has ever been, basically highly unlikely.

You don't think there's any 'temptation' to come to a club where the medical stuff are actually competent and the team is regularly playing finals? And for what it's worth Andrew is contracted for another two and a half years.

Better trade him to GC quickly before he walks for nothing then! :D

It doesn't matter what I think, what matters is he had the opportunity in the past and twice said **** that

Make the most of finals while you can
