I don't want to dance on the grave of the dearly departed but I am sure there is truth to the criticisms of Bolton. We will see today if the forward structuring improves. However I am not sure that bears fruit until the midfield is competitive

So are we now saying its fair for assistants to buck the system?
What happens if Amos doesnt like Teagues new ways for example. Is it going to be all fair game.
No of course it isn't.
The coach is the boss and Teague has proven well and truly that he knows this.

That depends on the veracity of this information. If it's true that Bolts was "stubborn", and overriding the advice of his assistant coaches then it's not a case of "putting the knife" in, just pointing out something that Bolts would do well to learn from, should he get another coaching gig. (And I hope he does.)
Sure, the coach is the "boss", but assistant coaches are appointed for a reason (and on decent coin), not just to hold the coach's whiteboard at the huddles. Bolts was (and still is) a very inexperienced coach, he should have been receptive to the specialist advice of his assistants.

Neale was dominating so he puts our best defensive midfielder onto him, Curnow smashed him after half time.
Forwards were leading to space, very little confusion and we actually took marks inside 50. Charlie looked like a key forward for once.
Midfielders lowering the eyes, short entry passes, not being rushed. Not always bombing it to whoever is isolated in the goal square.
Taking advantage of momentum and playing on at all costs, using the corridor.

These are the simple things that Bolton just couldn't do

Teague himself was pretty calm today. Must have been churning inside.

So often there's a response when a team moves on from a coach, but it did seem there were some more "obvious" moves (Ed the tagger, whaaaaat?) that paid dividends today.

I don’t see why not. Clarkson, Roos and Lyon were all first time AFL coaches at one point.

Yep. At the end of the day you can get the piece of paper, know all the theory, and then fail as a coach, because you just dont have the ability to assess and make important decisions and change of direction when you need to. That is instinct. Just like players- you need good instincts. Coaching is a hard caper, with many moving parts. no amount of preparation as a coach can tell you exactly what to do and when.
Today Teague knew what to do- it was a no brainer- let the players take the game on, release the shackles- he had nothing to lose. Well done DT.
The big challenge will be to ensure that he can respond , when the other teams watch the tapes and work out our new game plan

Great win Teaguey, however, history tells us that the real challenge is the weeks to come. I hope like hell that he can put his name forward with some good wins but in no way should we be making rash decisions.

Surprise, surprise - Gibbons plays in midfield and he looks a talent, move the ball fast and our tall fwds looks dangerous. Just defies belief Bolton didn't see this as such simple solutions.

Kudos to David. With young team you have to let them play.

We almost always had a forward target.
Speed of ball movement increased, use of first good option increased.
Ball movement was spread throughout the entire field, far less predictable and so much more space for runners.
Curnow and Gibbons playing a more ideal role.
Empowering the players to play freely and to their strengths whilst adhering to team structures.

Teague didn't do anything terribly sophisticated - just returned Ed to the middle, played Gibbons in his natural position, and kept the talls closer to goals. Really basic stuff.

Gibbons played half forward with some rotation in the second half. Not sure he was at a single centre bounce? Fisher was also largely played as a high half forward for the second and third quarters.

Between Cuningham, Fisher and Gibbons, they need only make up 1-2 midfielders within the structure on average. The more these two stay on the outside and calmly find or create space early on, the better they will be as the game goes on.

Im in so much trouble as usual for my animated viewing of footy at home in NSW - The shitfull umpiring nearly caused an aneurysm - the inconsistency both ways makes it so hard to watch - no wonder people new to the game get confused.

Feel massively for Bolts however the lack up blue skys took its toll. Wayne Brittain went from 5th to last and was sacked so maybe we are becoming more patient.

Anyway back to the Topic - You Bloody Beauty.

David Teague has now set a pretty big benchmark for himself. If he can find a way for our players to stand with each other each week he will be mounting a pretty good case for himself.

The lack of balls (pride) in the game against North left me embarrassed as a supporter. If Teaguey can get the boys to play with as much passion as he had courage each week and not just this game we will have much more to smile about.

I was really impressed with his presser. Easier after a win but seems to be a real thinker and gave good answers.

Things like explaining Walsh was head to head with Neale but changed it because we were still losing to Ed etc. Just a little more than Bolton would give.
