Awesome news.

Well done Teaguey.

I didn’t give him much of a chance early on but very quickly changed my tune.

What he has done in a short period of time has been amazing and I cannot wait to see how far he takes this group.

Loved his performance today as I have every time he has spoken. He’s a beauty.

Remember when Simon Lethlean got ousted by the AFL for having an affair but remained good friends with everyone there including Gill. All we heard from the media and the AFL was what a good operator lethlean is and he’ll find a job at a club - that much can be assured. In fact Carlton should just sign him up now.

We controversially shunned him and hired Liddle who nobody had ever heard of.

Liddle has turned out to be phenomenal and Lethlean is an A-grade flog sending St Kilda down the toilet.

Fantastic appointment looking back now.

Liddle was highly rated and was the reason for Richmond’s increased membership (which you can see he is now doing at Carlton). The question on him was whether he was capable to do the big job because at Richmond he as Chief Membership Officer

Spot on Liddle is all class...

I'm happy with the appointment and fully behind Teague - he seems as good a candidate as anyone and he's right there, already ingrained and connected with the team and club. No reason NOT to appoint him.

But anyone else feel like the club is grossly over-selling just how exhaustive the selection process has been? Interviewing 2 candidates is not "leaving no stone un-turned". Feels a bit self-conscious and defensive this media blitz about just how many interviews Teague has done. I think we should just own it, no need to over-explain.

Brilliant, thanks for sharing. That really makes you smile on the inside. Just love it.

Maybe a bit, but at the same time...I'd expect we still enquired on the availability of the candidates we felt could be appropriate.

Once Teague performed the way he did, it was clear that vetting him prior to seasons end would be the priority.

Edit: I'd go a step further, that Judd's commentary highlighted that we were focusing on external candidates until it was obvious we had a very strong candidate waiting in the wings

I don’t care what process they used.
The process eliminated the bad coach Voss and installed the great coach Teague so the process was successful.
Intuition is like sword use it and it stays sharp if you don’t it goes blunt.
I have a feeling some at the top now have strong intuitive skills to complement the anaylisis.
I loved Bolton but he was very process driven I feel Teague is more intuitive which makes for a better match day coach

Terrific appointment - Teague has been outstanding from the outset. Very happy for him and his family.

And the timing couldn’t be better. It feels like we’re at the beginning of something special. The club is entering a new era and the expectations will be enormous. And so they should be. This appointment just feels like the right move by the club and Teague has the opportunity to stamp his mark on this great sport.

Who were the "poaching" candidates?

Clarko - chased hard by the sounds of things, but not leaving Hawthorn.
Lyon - we may have asked the question, but he seems insistent on remaining with Freo.
Longmire - resigned with Sydney early.
All the other senior coaches - probably asked the question of managers, but most look pretty well set where they are.

Who were the "available" candidates?

Teague - interviewed and assessed extensively.
Voss - two interviews, reportedly performed poorly in both.
Ratten - heavily linked to STK gig, was "open" to Carlton talks but not "keen", probably sees a better opportunity with the Saints and didn't want to hurt that.
Shaw - locked in pretty quick at North, doubt he was shopping himself around.
Richo - terrible record, good assistant/poor senior coach.
Scott - looking at an $800k salary to take a gap year followed by a cushy gig at head office, also potentially the wrong personality for our team anyway.

That just leaves a bunch of other assistants, none of whom appear to have had the opportunity to actually showcase their senior coaching potential in the way Teague has.

Only interviewing 2 candidates doesn't diminish the process as a whole. There's a very limited pool of candidates to draw from, and once you take out the ones who wouldn't have been up for a move, and the ones we simply weren't keen on ourselves, that doesn't leave much.

For being such a basket case of a club that they'd lose a quality assistant coach, who then heads back to the club he played and won a B&F with and subsequently gets appointed senior coach after turning around our on-field fortunes, including completely embarrassing said basket case of a club with a comprehensive 27 point drubbing, leaving their finals chances teetering on the edge of a cliff.

Oh, we should probably take the opportunity to thank them for giving us two first round picks for a SANFL player as well.

Oh, and coughing up Stocker for a 6-spot upgrade in a weak draft.

Did I forget anything?

Just got to watch the press conference.
Teague could not be more impressive.
I love the fact it was inhouse. A family thing.
Not some performance for the media.
The abundant confidence is the massive thing.
He will have these players walking on hot coals believing it doesn't hurt a bit.
Nigel Smart???
