It’s hard to judge a coach who most likely feels pressure to pick Murphy, Ed, Levi and Eddie most weeks. We as supporters were saying only last year that we need that experience in the side, that we can’t get rid of our senior players and those 4 especially were referenced. Well, we have them in the side every week.
I feel like you are making things up for Teague and supporters...

I don’t mean the supporters are putting pressure on Teague to play certain players but there is no way that guys like Murphy or Levi should be picked every week. Is there pressure internally to nurse Murphy 300 games? That is pressure and no way to coach.

And yes, there were posts only last year during the off-season that we need experience heads like Marc, Levi and Ed at the club. Unfortunately, we shouldn’t have all 3 in the same side. But it‘s happening most weeks.

I think we are on the same page in what we'd like to see. Geez I wish Teague would shake things up. I for one think we have wasted 18 months in development with some blokes by lack of opportunity and where they are being played.

Casboult earnt his keep last night.

Murphy not so much. I would like to think the board is not instructing Teague to carry Murphy to 300 games (nothing would surprise me with this club tbh)

Despite the goals, it was a standard Levi performance. I wasn’t impressed. I don’t know, maybe I am being harsh and seeming like I am nitpicking on the older citizens on our list when we have had dodgy performances from guys who you expect to do much better like Cripps.

how does smurph reaching 300 benefit the club? just wondering why our club prevented him from moving to the club that offered him a decent contract?
I don't think either of those are true.

Last week he was one of our best players. This week he's unsighted which isn't unusual for a forward in a well beaten team.

Because he's a 290 game, past captain of the club?

I hate the idea of spoon feeding him to 300, but how would've moving on Murph benefit the club? It's the same reason why we shouldn't trade Cripps to Freo just because they're offering him a big contract.

At the Hawks game Brendan Bolton is currently laughing his ass off for no apparent reason.

Reading the comments made in the offseason from DT about Cripps ringing him every day (basically badgering him, based on what I read into DT's comments) to talk gameplay/strategy gave me some concern. While it's great to have a co-captain invested in our approach, I would have preferred this type of stuff was put to bed and him being told to concentrate on improving the flaws in his own game before indulging his opinions on our gameplay.

This Carlton setup smacks of player power right now with the backroom staff paranoid about losing unhappy players as much as they're focused on actually winning games of football. I'm begging for a Lethal/Lyon type to come in and put this lot on notice.

im not sure which club made the big offers but if it was one of the contenders or contract value/term was better then why get in the way. not going to win a flag at the blues so promising him more games as an incentive to reach his 300 is not fair on other players who may be more deserving or are the future. it seems club is now cornered into playing him regardless of form. how much worse would cunners be right now as opposed to murph?

The pendulum swing. I’ve always advocated for investing time into our ‘talent’ especially with another two preseasons under their belt.

I think a few youngsters would have every right to feel peeved at selection, different standards for different players. There’d have to be locker room discussions amongst the group re selection.

Don’t know why he would be feeling smug.

His kindergarten level coaching is half the reason we are in this mess

Coaching is a concern - we're trying to play a run & gun game style that our list cannot accommodate at present.
Hopefully Nick Austin is/becomes more collaborative with our list management strategy as having a bunch of high draft picks on the payroll counts for nothing if they cannot form a cohesive unit or fit our gameplan.

The whole Murphy situation is pretty damn sad and humiliating for all involved.

Is there another club out there that has just so blatantly nursed their veterans to a milestone? Even North called time on their guys, and they weren't near as finished as Murph.

And we replaced him with an assistant because we we're impressed with his ability to.... Play mature players in the midfield.

Calm down, we have lost to two top 4 sides and we didn't turn up against Collingwood.

Two wins after Collingwood debacle was good.

Port will beat sides by 50points this year.

I backed Teague all last year. I’ve become 50/50 on him. Seems to get regularly out coached. Doesn’t make the tough calls. Not entirely sure what our system/ game plan is.

wouldn’t be surprised if he’s gone by halfway through the year. Whether or not it’s warranted, I’m not quite sure as of yet.

I do worry about Harry staying with us if we have another disappointing year. This is what can start to happen if you never get out of the tough times.

One thing I dislike about Teague is his somewhat monotonous demeanour. I would prefer more conviction from the senior coach, than starting responses with aaaaahhhhhuuuuuummmm along with constant umms.

I also find 2 Teague traits you mentioned quite troubling: the reluctance to make tough calls at selection, and the lack of a plan B.
These can be spun as positives (ie. he is backing his players and “system” in), but I cannot see it that way. There is a fine line between stubbornness and pigheadedness. To me, being stubborn is having the conviction to stick with something you know is right, pigheadedness is sticking with it despite it being obviously wrong.
Sadly it appears DT and his match committee and coaching staff fall into column B.

I never see Teague barking instructions to runners with the phone, I never see him turn his head to others in the box
He seems to whisper to himself. He resembles a fan with the best seat in the house.

I don't think he knows what to do in game. He waits for the breaks to make adjustments.

Didn't know that about the off season, something I'll ponder a bit

Needs to focus on developing young players and defence. We bring guys into the team and don't give them a significant role I feel. We don't defend at all and our sub par kicking when there is pressure is terrible.

If we're losing games to top side, ok so be it but we're losing games to better teams and I'm not seeing young players show anything. We are all about our senior players and making them the focus rather than bringing young players into the game or playing them at all.

Our injury list doesn't help, at the moment it's shocking.

Wasnt convinced with Bolton after a bit of time with him at the helm and backed him until you couldn’t any more. I’m getting exactly the same vibe with Teague, albeit can see he’s got a little more nous in him. Will back him but not convinced. Bag the players as you’d like, but there’s massive issues i feel on game day up in the box. Especially defensively and with transition from defence. Bolton funnily enough had the same issue. Get him some help, as well as who HE wants as his backroom staff, or I can see him suffering a similar demise sadly.
