David Warner

If he answered questions by saying no others involved and it was all my idea, he’s never coming back and he knows it. Warner is hanging on to the slim chance his apology is accepted by a sympathetic Australian public and CA says be a good boy from now on and you’ll get a chance. This is all about redemption for him.
Did I imagine the part where CA have already charged and punished Warner for developing the plan and instructing and advising Bancroft how?

If he dumps CA on the shit he isn't even getting IPL contracts.

Wouldn't put it past Warner, the slim he is.

Yep. Two things out of this presser:
  • You are DEFINITELY going to see a bidding war for his story. Considering he's just coughed up millions of dollars in contracts and sponsorships, he's gunning for $500k from 60 Minutes/Today Tonight/Woman's Day.
  • He's lawyering up for an appeal/suit.
It ain't over by a long shot.

He was in a no win situation
Tell the truth and be branded a dog for dubbing in your mates, or say nothing as he did and Be accused of dishonesty
It’s fairly obvious others were involved, probably the bowlers, and CA didn’t want to have to suspend the whole team.
I’ll give him credit for sticking it out through the questioning, unlike Smith who ran away from the grilling as it all got too hard for him.

Wel you suspend the ones who came up with the plan and the captain who’s watch it happened under.

Considering we have gone above and beyond what anyone else has ever done with the punishments, I’m not really sure what people want.

I think the bowlers may of been aware of Davey doing something but not the specifics. I am still fairly certain they wouldn’t of known about Bancrofts yellow sandpaper.

Also don’t be surprised if Warner is keeping his powder dry in the hope he is selected for the ashes and World Cup in 2019 and if not he may then begin very strategic leaks through the press

You could see he was dying to speak his mind. At one point he looked incredibly angry.

Unbelievable restraint shown by our Davey.

Alan Jones raised a very pertinent point regarding Sutherland and how he's handled this matter. Apparently failed to come down on his son straight after he cause significant damage to the hotel room representing an affiliated Cricket Australia side (not sure which one).

Here are the only details I could find on the subject

Jones has angered Sutherland by lobbing a personal attack of his own at the CEO with allegations about his teenage son Will's behaviour on trip last year with a junior team in which three hotel rooms were damaged. A Cricket Australia spokesman explained that the damage was paid for and that Will Sutherland, one of those responsible, had written a letter of apology.

When has Alan Jones ever given a hoot about proper behaviour & discipline. He now has Sutherland in his sights and won't rest until he's gone.

Yep, but dumping on CA wasn’t what my counter point related to. Rather it was a debate on further damage to Warner’s Australian prospects if he admitted the idea was his vs being made a scapegoat.

CA have already stated and punished Warner for developing the plan therefore towing this company line instead of dodging the question wouldn’t have hurt his Australian career.

Clearly Warner feels otherwise, which was my original point.

Yep. When each question was asked, he moved to speak, then stopped and took a deep breath. Coached well.

I think Alan Jones is a wank stain on the pyjama pants of Australia.

But if he's gunning for Sutherland, more power to him.

Glad to see him hurting and upset, but he dodged the questions like a bloke waiting for a pay day to "tell all" on sixty minutes or a current affair.

Cant stand the campaigner.

The more I think about it the more something is sus and it's been going on endemically.

If it had of been left to the ICC Warner's name wouldn't have been mentioned, Bancroft would be playing and Smith would be sitting in a green vest being jeered.

Bans are more about protecting the ban/$$$ rights.

What exactly did Warner do? Suggest to Bancroft to rub sandpaper on a ball. (Bancroft is a 25 yo 1st class cricketer. He knows what ball tampering is/why it is done/how it is done and given that I'm pretty sure he knows how to use sandpaper.

So Bancroft is punished the least when he did the crime.
Smith the most because he is the captain.

And Warner is the most vilified for what exactly? Corrupting a young teammate (Fair enough) but given it is wide spread he has been crucified for making a suggestion not some weird ring leader bullshit.

He's really been left with no choice but hold a press conference. I don't think its necessary, but the media won't forgive until they've had every extra piece of sensationalism they can scrape out of it. Only then will the media start on the "redemtption" angle as they have begun with Smith.

He might name names of others who knew. Not in order to come clean, but in the belief it will help to sprad the blame thinner. It is unlikely, but the sort of desparate self-serving thing he might do. (And, frankly, an accidental good thing if he did.) There's bound to be some attempt at a defence that ends up self-defeating (like Barnaby publicly questioning the paternity of his mistress' child).
I expect he will attempt to say the right things, like a politician in a scandal of their own making rather than meaningful manner. He just hits as they type of person who can't accept it is possible that he may have done something wrong.
His advisors have surely told him not to announce an appeal, but he may allude to the ACA's comments about that possibility in his defence attempts.
So you were pretty much wrong on all counts

FFS crying? anyone but Warner please.
He is the blokiest bloke of all, he doesn't bloody cry!
I would have not hated him as much if he actually didn't cry. These fake tears makes me sick.

All these PR firms have the same strategy, just tell their clients to have a big cry.

My suspicion is that for years now, most teams have been pushing (and sometimes exceeding) the boundaries when it comes to rules around the ball. Whether it is trying to get some of their sunscreen or sugared saliva on to the ball to shine it better, or deliberately trying to scuff it up by letting it bounce on the pitch, or "accidentally" rubbing it on the concrete when it lands in the boundary gutter.

I suspect it is so rampant, that's why the penalties for ball tampering are so weak and why other transgressors (like Faf) have mostly escaped any serious scrutiny. Everybody does it, so hey, what's the big deal?

The problem is that Warner and Co have taken it one step further, and everyone has come down on them like a tonne of bricks.

IMHO, ICC needs to come out waaaay stronger on ball tampering.

Three tweets from Warner explaining why he didn't answer questions

Not allowed to as he has a CA hearing coming up

I haven't seen the pc but if there were coditions It should simply have been this

1) Statement like Smith & Bancroft
2) Inappropriate to answer any questions due to CA legal process to follow.

Alan Jones isn't judge, jury & executioner and should be told to **** off in no uncertain terms. It was a disgrace what he did to PM Julia Guillard.

The only thing "our Davey " is angry about is losing his lucrative IPL deal, this moment of madness has cost him $millions and it's all because the Saffers needled him in Durban and the fans got to him in Capetown. He then lost his freaking mind conjuring up this insane plan that was never going to work.

Maybe, could also possibly be angry that in his mind he has been 'ball managing' for ages with the knowledge and support of his team mates, and now he is the one being hung out to dry.
