He should have just lied to cover the team.

Now everyone knows others were involved and it's not the first time they've done it.
Why should he have lied? That only leads to the same shit happening and being done again. If you want to change the “culture, morals & ethics” of our game we nee to be open and honest. Take the punishments and fallout then finally move on as a totally clear conscience team.

The only thing "our Davey " is angry about is losing his lucrative IPL deal, this moment of madness has cost him $millions and it's all because the Saffers needled him in Durban and the fans got to him in Capetown. He then lost his freaking mind conjuring up this insane plan that was never going to work.

The plan has been in motion a lot longer than the SA tour.

Only wrong thing he did was tutor Bancroft in how to use sandpaper. If he had just done it himself and shut up about it he would be captaining now. Smith gets a test and Warner gets Bancroft's punishment.

i dont know who's dumber, davey or the ones who told him to deliver nothing but more uncertainty.
He's dumb but I'm sure he can afford a decent lawyer.

They would have mapped out a path for him to return. This press conference and the 'CA process to follow' would have been part of it. No specific admissions besides what is already known, didn't flesh out any details in regards to the team or team mates.

Has those tidbits stashed away.

Sure it sounded stupid repeating that line but he is dumb. Would have been told whenever you cop an awkward question just repeat our key message. Say only what we want to say and nothing more.

Sure, if he had a brain he would have just batted them away - I'd prefer not to comment on that at this stage or something. But he doesn't.

they werent even difficult questions. they were absolute free hits.

was anyone else involved? 'no it was only the 3 found by the investigation'
have you done it before? yes/no. it's not like it gets any worse for him, does it?

you can't get away with repeating the message when you've been caught like that in sport. it's not one day at a time or any of that nonsense anymore.

???

The were exceptionally awkward, difficult questions.

There's no way this is the one and only time we've tampered with the ball and no way that the knowledge extended to only those three people.

They were 'can of worms' questions.

They were easy questions if Warner has decided to take all the heat and cover up for his team mates/coaches. I doubt he has.

FFS crying? anyone but Warner please.
He is the blokiest bloke of all, he doesn't bloody cry!
I would have not hated him as much if he actually didn't cry. These fake tears makes me sick.

All these PR firms have the same strategy, just tell their clients to have a big cry.

If in doubt, go the blub.

Who was it in the background of that presser selecting who could ask a question, or stating that you have already asked 1 question no more, Warners legal adviser or Cricket Australia rep ?

Melcolm Conn I think it was, He's the Communications manger for Cricket NSW.

the investigation already pointed to him as the ring leader or whatever of it. either he lies and covers it up or he tells the truth. he has done neither and just kept this circus rolling. if he really cared about his mates like he said he's just kept that firmly in the shitshow.

He was screwed either way and is obviously planning to reveal his side of the story through judicial proceedings. That does beg the question, what was the point of conducting a press conference? It would have only been to gain public support, which he failed miserably at by being repeatedly ambiguous.

Yep - in this one instance.

Which I suspect is about 1% of the story.

And we don't even know what the investigation uncovered. Cricket Australia's first task was to deal with (and contain as best as possible) this current issue which they have done.

Is it just me, or does this feel a little contrived compared to the other two.
C'mon, they have all been contrived. Not saying the pain isn't real, but Smith's and Bancroft's pressers were all about beginning the road to redemption. And hasn't CA's tactics worked a treat. Despite doing exactly the same pressers, Warner's is being painted as self-serving and the other two as heroic. They are all still lying, all still covering up the truth, which means they are all upset at the consequences, but not the 'crime' itself.

CA are ****ers.

I have never liked Warners behaviour, but as much as I hate to say it, he is the one who has acted the smartest. Unfortunately coming out and being honest can sometimes actually make things worse for you. If Smith and Bancroft hadn't come out straight away and admitted what had happened, but got advice first, how would their situation be worse now?

I think that the lack of competence in the act and the lack of a prepared get out clause indicate a hastily hatched plot in the lunch break. I think Smiths naivety in blurting out a full confession straight away indicates that this sort of behaviour is atypical of him.

Let's look at the consequences - it has been widely perceived that this action was known more throughout the team and with significant backroom involvement. There is absolutely no evidence of such, in fact I think it is more likely the opposite was true.

Consider Atherton who had a prepared excuse for his dirt in the pocket act. Do we believe it? No but we can't say say 100% that this was not true.It appears Atherton had more premeditation because he had an excuse prepared. However he gets a fine and stays Captain.

If Smith and Bancroft had kept quiet initially things might not have ended up as bad for them. There has been much criticism of Sutherland for taking his time in dealing with the situation. My god what do people think he has been doing? Talking to lawyers!

Sadly when accused of something talking can sometimes be the worst thing you can do even if you are innocent.

Maybe, could also possibly be angry that in his mind he has been 'ball managing' for ages with the knowledge and support of his team mates, and now he is the one being hung out to dry.
If that is true, then he needs to come clean and produce evidence of the fact. I suspect he will appeal, he will lose $millions of dollars because of this. If Australia has been doing this for years ( i don't believe it myself) and that is proven then those players must be banned also and Australia as a nation suspended from all International cricket for an indefinite period of time. The repercussions could be catastrophic for Australian cricket.
IMO this whole fiasco was cooked up by an incensed Warner who was goaded by FAF and De Kock on a stairwell in Durban. He has then had to contend with the taunting "Sonny Boy" face masks and spectators abusing him in Capetown. Warner has simply lost the plot and like a "bull" seeing red he has lost his freaking mind and charged right into the trap set by the Saffers.
I don't believe Australia are serial ball tamperers.. FaF on the other hand...

At first I was a big fan of Warner's because of his prowess. Then I saw him as a rich pro sportsman with an attractive wife and I started to hate him. When he got caught cheating I was delighted by his downfall. Now I have seen him crying, I feel sorry for him.

amidoinitrite? :D

Sarcasm surely in regards to his wife..

Can see a scenario where Warner never plays Tests again but may scrape into ODI and T20 teams.

Three tweets from Warner explaining why he didn't answer questions

Not allowed to as he has a CA hearing coming up

Then his PR team needs a kick up the arse.

If that's the case, it's this simple: "I'm sorry I can't answer that question, I've got a CA hearing coming up and I'm not supposed to prejudice that with any answers now. I'll do my best, but please understand that's the process."

Even Warner could have memorised that.

I just cant feel sorry for Warner. We've seen his tears now but everything about him suggests that the only reason he is so upset is because of the damage its done to him. Hes had at least half a dozen other indiscretions throughout his career and never shown remorse. But now he has been hit in the hip pocket, been banned for 12 months and labelled a cheater he feels sorry? What about all the other times youve ****ed up mate but carried on like a smug ****?

No doubt his position in the aussie cricket team has affected teh culture within the group and he never should have been given the vice-captaincy. Also get the impression that in 12 months time if he realizes that he cant get back into top class cricket that he will drag as many people down with him as he can...

Good riddance to the shit campaigner.

No wonder CA operates in the way it does.
No difference between what Warner, Bancroft and Smith said but people are happy to fall for the crocodile tears from Smith & Bancroft but not Warner.

What a joke.

Alan Jones isn't judge, jury & executioner and should be told to **** off in no uncertain terms. It was a disgrace what he did to PM Julia Guillard.

I don't care if it's Alan Jones, the weather guy on SBS or Spongebob.

If the end result is Sutherland is gone, I'll back them.
