David Warner

CA is treating him the same publicly, but all the leaks were designed to show him as an evil mastermind and Smith some innocent rube. Neither would be totally accurate. Yes, some of it is chickens coming home to roost for Warnee being a dickhead, but it doesn't make it right. One only has to look at the hypocrisy in responses: Smith cries and it's contrition, Warner cries and it's contrivance. CA PR working a treat.

That's tinfoil hat conspiracy stuff. CA hasn't dictated public perception, the report paints both as responsible in different ways. As for the leeks, that's nothing you can't garner from the actual report. CA have a lot to answer for but the publics reaction isn't one of those.

Warners subsequeny PR stunts pandering to a family man perception reaffirm public perception that he is ultimately a hypocrite who can't take personal responsibility and always wants to pass the buck. His statement of owning 'my part' also continues to divert attention away from his actions and taking full responsibility for those.

He instigated this episode and perhaps he should have apologised for ruining a young mans career.

No doubt in my mind with the 3 involved CA saw this as a chance to get at Warner , leaked information to paint him totally as the bad guy.
They've been gunning for him and more then likely knew he had been tampering for a while and were happy for him hang himself

They also knew Warner would do the rest for them as far as public perception goes. He has been terrible advised. From the press conference to his wife's radio interview which was bizarre.

Its worked as well as it could for CA

So Warner using his family makes him a hypocrite. But Smith apologising to his Ma and Pa is 'tough to watch' and genuine contrition. Warner ruined a young man's career. But not the ****ing captain of the team. Do you not see how you are being played?

People seem willing to accept the narrative that Warner had tampered with the ball before, using tape, which is why he brought Bancroft in. But they also need to believe the guy standing next to him for eight hours didn't see a thing. And the bowlers couldn't tell. It's laughable.

Yep, Warner doesn't do himself any favours: he's a tool. But that doesn't mean we let Smith or, most importantly, CA off the hook. They are lying to cover up past cheating and should be called out on it.

What makes Warner a hypocrite is he has accused others for ball tampering and highlighted the sanctity of the 'Australian way' where they play hard but fair. No one else has blatantly stated such dross. The report stated that Warner and Bancroft came up with the plan while Smith chose to be willingly ignorant and not to explore the situation. Smith has to take responsibility and deserves some condemnation, but he didn't instigate the whole ****ing thing did he? I'm not willing to believe that this level of tampering has been conducted before and no one has any definitive evidence that this has occurred to support that view. They're just assuming.

Warner has played to the family man persona for while now for his own benefit ie his transition from bull to reverend. Just stinks of sanctimonious rubbish and now when things are tough he's pulled out his trump card. When you've used the same PR stunt before it becomes tiresome and appears disingenuous. Its a type of behavioural psychology, he's responding to the same stimulus (criticism) knowing that it has helped him previously divert attention away from his behaviour. Smith hasn't used his family persona to his benefit previously so it appears more genuine. Not really outlandish stuff or a CA plot to demonise him.

Warner will not be challenging the ban either.

Good call from him and those trusted advisers, an appeal would've dragged his reputation through the mud further and probably burn any remaining bridges with CA. His best chance is to suck it up like Smith and Bancroft and work hard at grade/domestic level and try to change peoples perception of him

When will they be allowed to play grade/domestic cricket? Not for 12 months? That stinks.

I honestly can't understand all the hatred and anger directed towards Warner. He's not the first campaigner to play for Australia. He's not the biggest campaigner to play for Australia and he won't be the last campaigner to play for Australia.

That is a good result for Australian cricket and shows Warner is learning from his mistakes.

Having said that, Warner (and his family) had a significant amount to gain from having the penalty down graded.

Smith and Bancroft are 3-4 years younger than Warner, they have time and plenty to gain from sucking it up and working hard to make amends.

Warner probably only has 3 years of test cricket left in him, one of which he will be suspended for. Is he going to come straight back into he team after 12 months, is he going to be in the team long enough to get sponsors back on board?

If an appeal was successful he could make a lot of money playing 20/20 in the next 12 months.

Let's say in 12 month time a Aus batsman is injured. If Bancroft has been scoring runs at domestic level, I'd think you would pick him ahead of Warner who hasn't played for 12 months. If Warner appealed and received the same penalty as Bancroft, scored more runs than him on his return, you d think CA would have to pick Warner.

What I am saying is I don't blame Warner for taking longer to consider his options. if it resulted in an extra million dollars for my family, I would suck up the public's hatred and work on scoring as many runs as I could to continue earning for my family.

Not so sure about the bit in bold. OK, Michael Slater and Simon O'Donnell I grant you, but the size of their campaignerism wasn't really known until they stopped playing and hit the media.

Whether he’s being treated differently or not, warner’s Career to date is coming home to roost.
Numerous controversies, accusations to other teams, run ins with opponents, a punch etc.

So forgive me if I say I can understand why they would be keener to bring back Smith, the guy with a spotless record, than they would to bring back Warner.

Nailed it in one.

Warner was leading the charge during the pay dispute too. Rightly or wrongly, that would have pissed of the powers in the CA corridors far more than incidences such as getting suspended from the cricket academy.

High school creative writing assignment tier stuff.
All 170cm of David Warner strides from the spit-hole that leads to the dressing rooms, his strut is compelling, he’s sweating confidence and his stick is the size of a baobab tree. Some people say he looks like he doesn’t care, I say he looks like he doesn’t know how to care. Cool, calm, composed; the Warner we’ve come to know.
hmmm

It would have been fanciful to think the writer and Warner could ever play in a competitive match against eachother 9 months a go. The writer (Sam Alexander) played 14 of his 16 grade games last season in 4th grade and then performed mediocre in the couple of games he got in 3rds. All of a sudden he's playing 1sts for North Sydney against a bloke with 20+ test centuries.

It also shows how bad North Sydney are going that this bloke is playing 1sts :D.
