It’s easier to cop an apology when you know someone’s error was completely out of character.

When an apology comes for something that, while an extreme example of it, befits someone’s character, the sympathy is always going to be somewhat lessened

Completely out of character?
He was given the job because somebody thought he was capable of hiding a piece of sandpaper and using it on the ball in between overs.
What would make somebody think that he was up to cheating in such a brazen way?

Doesn't say much about his character IMO.

Warner might be an in your face DH, but the worst kind of people are hypocrites and the 2 face brigade.

I feel sorry for the bloke.

Made a very stupid decision but it’s been an emotionally charged series. The comments and saga surrounding his wife by the South Africans was out of line and would have influenced his decision.

Agreed. Surprised this hasnt been brought up. If it was the AFL the depression word would already be on the table...

You know the only reason he copped what he did is because he sledged De Kock about his sister, right?

“Hey! I can say whatever I like about your loved ones. But don’t mention my partners well known past!”

Warner is pathetic. As are his defenders.

Never liked the bloke, especially the way he carries on at times like he’s gods gift to cricket! penalty is harsh as with Smith but honestly I wouldn’t care if he never represent the baggy green again!

When Warner becomes perfect like you, and like 95% of the BF crowd, well...that'll be the day that I never watch cricket again.

Nope, he brought family into it, he opened the floodgates. Worse than that, he has ****ed over our team, complete scumbag undeserving of any sympathy

I don’t abuse people’s family members, so probably not. Or atleast not as big of a twat as ‘Davey’.
So u don't like the abuse that's been smashed upon Warner and Warner's family? I'm not sure what you're saying, but it sounds like you support de ****.

Waste of talent, or lucky to get as far as he did?
To be honest I don't think you can call anyway that played 70-odd tests a waste of talent.

Cricket wise his only blemish is performances outside of Australia.

Even before this test he was always going to be remembered as an antagonistic bastard. And not in the Rod Marsh, Ian Botham sorta way.... This week has only cemented that legacy.

What was wrong with the pitches in England? They were good test match pitches. That it showed up how average our players are who bat on flat decks in Australia and look like God’s is hardly cheating.
Cheating would be more like CA directing curators to prepare roads for money purposes. Oh that’s right, that’s what we do in Australia.
Forget Australian tracks for a minute. You don't see the way England prepared their wickets as cheating? Then how can you see sandpapering one side a the ball as anything other than challenging the SA batsman on a bit of reverse swing?

Sounds to me as if you want the rest of the cricket world to be a pure as the driven snow. It isn't.

I did it once, made an awful comment to an opposition player about a family member. It was 30 years ago, I can still remember where it was and the game it was in.

To this day I think "wtf was I thinking to say something like that?", although I can now see what was going on in my life at the time, and how it contributed to it all.

For many years I was ashamed but I realized eventually I had to forgive myself.

The main reason I say this is that comments like this (either from Warner or De Kock in this particular example) generally do not happen in isolation.
