Sigh 747

Well you brought it up and I feel obliged to comment about it

Yes he is known for that and it will always be on his record and he has live with that as a cricketer for the rest of his playing career. (some would say that is punishment enough) but remember 747 he wasn't the only one Warner Smith got charged and they did there time also. It was a dark time for aussie cricket and there are still questions lingering about what happened that day.....and remember a lot of players that day are still playing...cummins starc hazelwood lyon ussie still are playing......still questions that need to be asked

But going back to bancroft IMO he has done his time and should not be judged on what he did that day (but i can see that he still is judged by it by yourself)

The only think that matters is the amount of runs he scores and the form he is in IMO

Let me ask you this ..Do you believe its harder for bancroft to get back in the team regardless of how many runs he scored because of what he did compared to other players ??
100% this.

I wonder if 747 has the same attitude to the 2005 England side that used mints to shine the ball (which is ball tampering under the rules) and admitted to by Marcus Trescothick in his autobiography?

What about Afridi? Dravid? Philander & De Plessis (twice each). Even Sachin wasn't immune to giving the ball a workout.

Smith; Bancroft and Warner did the crime, they've done the time. Move on FFS.

Nope. It's the only thing he is known for. And it matters when he is one of a few underwhelming options, picking him will bring that back up.
The selectors already recalled him once, I don't think they really care about it

I have never said that I’m sure Renshaw will work out. Far from it. All I have said is give him an extended run without a coach wanting to drop the bloke. Give him a few series then let’s see. If it doesn’t work then pick a young opener like Henry Hunt. At least we know he won’t drop catches like Harris will
At this stage Renshaw is not getting enough runs in the shield, take out his 200 this season.

I understood his selection in the 2 summer series - didn’t necessarily agree, but understood. He’s nowhere near the devil people on here make him out to be. He’s been a great player, and deserved a swan song.

But he has to go now, he looks terrible, he’s not suited to this or our next tour.

I like Bancroft, I think he paid a higher price as he wasn't set in the team like Warner and Smith. He had just produced one of his best knocks for Australia when he was suspended. I agree he's done the time. But I will never agree that what happened was on par with shining the ball with some minty saliva or even picking at the seam. Both in practice and in appearance, it was a shocking low for our team.

No, I don't support England or India or Pakistan. I support Australia and a cricket team that has spent the past century telling all and sundry that we play hard but fair but that we don't cheat like the other teams do.

Shield is only one form of first class cricket. He deserves a run it’s sure better than going back to Harris where half the runs are at Junction.

So you want to give Renshaw a few series?

You've never once afforded Carey the same consideration?

Yea I have, haven’t called for his dropping for a while, whilst I have some concerns on his keeping I’ve said all summer he’s improved this massively. I did prefer Inglis before Carey was in the side but right no no issue but these next two series are important. He kept very well in the first test

His swan song should have been Sydney. He’s been poor for 2 years.

Ponting was poor for 6 years.. not unusual for guys that have built a good record to get a extended run to find form, Warner's still been scoring runs in ODI's and T20I's which would have helped as well.

So now we are picking players off slog cricket and his t20 form is generous was awful in the ipl. It was time 12 months ago, least hopefully we don’t see him near the Ashes otherwise Broad gets 10 easy wickets

No one's belt the door down, look like they see Renshaw as the next in line who legit average 32 over the past 5 seasons.

What’s the worst that could happen with trying a couple? They can’t do worse than Warner. So long as he’s not in the Ashes all good

Why try them if they aren't going any good at Shield level, isn't Test cricket meant to be harder?

(Its not sometimes I know)

I reckon they'll squib it and Warner will play the series.

I think Warner did more damage to himself by the 2nd innings than anything.

40 deliveries he middled 4-5 and the rest he either edged onto his pads or missed. And he was dropped.

They just can’t play him. He’s cooked. He couldn’t even go offensive because he was so worried he’d look even worse. This is after he was in the press saying he would take a positive approach. He couldn’t even take it because he has absolutely no confidence in playing ashwin.

This isn’t even a murder it’s a mercy killing.

Khawaja aint getting any younger either , we most likely will have 2 new openers in the next 12-18 months .
So its pretty important we get the right choice in now so they are settled in Test cricket as an opener when Khawaja moves on.

Sandpaper man is a lock imo so the 2nd opener is up for grabs.

We could have tried them at home against a Windies side instead wasted all summer with a cooked Warner who failed 5 out of 6 tests at home where he’s meant to be decent.

Bancroft actually didn't tamper with the ball, you know. The umpires inspected the ball and found its condition hadn't been changed.

The penalty was basically for taking a foreign object on to the field.
and also the penalty was colossal because of the sanctimonious superiority complex a lot of Australians have about the cricket teams mythos. Otherwise they got the same slap on the wrist as du Plessis got for scuffing the ball with his zipper.

There is an inverse correlation between the amount of cricket someone watched and how harsh they thought the penalty should have been.

On that, the ICC penalties should be much harsher for ball tampering. Our penalty was over the top, the ICC’s was utterly pointless.
