It is obvious. We need to create a BigFooty Cricket Board twitter account and 'engage in frank discussions' with the players we love to support yell at.

I officially endorse this idea

Four single figure scores in eight innings is a worry. That said, England is an entirely different set of conditions. It remains to be seen if he can cope with genuine swing, but given how far away from his body he often plays I have strong doubts. (That goes for most of any possible squad though.)

If Warner (and quite a few others) are serious about their test careers they should forget IPL and Champions Trophy and go and play county cricket in England to prepare for the Ashes. I know Cowan is doing this, not sure if anyone else is, anyone know?

Complete and utter embarrassment.

Starc is the only other one I know of who is skipping the IPL to focus on test cricket.

That doesn't surprise me about Cowan.

unfortunately it's not a matter of just "go and play county cricket", you gotta get a contract. with the limits on international players they don't just hand them out to whoever wants/needs a run and given our guys current performances they're not exactly the most attractive bunch of batsmen.

dave's career is coming to a cross roads and fast. as i've said repeatedly he'll be given every opportunity to succeed. rightly or wrongly, CA has a lot banking on him being a successful cricketer, preferably in all three formats.

jimmy anderson will be a challenge for all of our batsmen, but none more so than warner. we know he's footwork is average, particularly early on, we know he goes hard at the ball. these are attributes which against the swinging ball are very much likely to make him a boom or bust player in england.

unless he has an absolute disastrous run of low scores in england, i would be surprised if he didn't play all ten ashes tests. but if he struggles through the first 2 or 3 tests, you can bet the blowtorch will go up a few degrees.

that being said, despite finishing off the indian tour terribly, he was hardly on his lonesome there, and when we walked off the field at the conclusion of the test his 39 batting average was the highest of anyone in the current XI (probably the first time no one in the XI has had an average of 40)...

good ordinary player who had a bad series.
he's never going to be langer or hayden.

Cowan = geoff marsh
Warner = a young boonie
Hughes = tonky tommy from toodlerook way out of his depth

Possibly the greatest insult Boonie has ever copped.

Boon was more like Geoff Marsh than like Warner. Warner bats more like Rod Marsh, except with more talent.
Actually, to match him with an opener Warner = a slightly better Hilditch, and a good match in the brains department if Hilditch's time as a selector is anything to go by.

Are you saying Hughes is the new (Victorian) Wayne Phillips? Obviously not Rob Quiney, Quiney looked polished and far from out of his depth, he just produced the results like tonky tommy from toodlerook.

When i can make half a mill for batting and thats my job i'll bat for who plays most simple.

I'm assuming you were drunk when you posted that dan.

can you guys remember boonies first run in the test side?
from memory he was a gutsy player with a penchant for hooking and irresponsible shots.
He was duly dropped from the team.
When he came back, he was more mature and from memory performed considerably better including a couple of seasons of 50 plus cricket.
I think when dropped he was averaging about 34/35 and after he came back in the high 40s.
a career in two parts.
ATM warner does more stupid things than er...me :P :D

Nope. When some Indian dangles $1m in front of you for eight weeks work, most players no longer give a **** about facing a ball machine set for outswingers outside off stump for hours on end. One of the major problems with our next generation of cricketers.

I know Cowan is doing this, not sure if anyone else is, anyone know?

Lulz at Cowan turning down the riches of IPL. As if he was ever going to get a contract anyway.

That'd be like me saying I'm not bothering to date Megan Gale or Miranda Kerr and instead I'm going to focus all of my energy on 2am screamers full of Bacardi Breezers.

Wouldn't get massive riches in the IPL, or maybe even a contract, but his test batting has made people forget he is a damn good limited overs player as well.

Warner had a couple of decent scores in India but finished badly. He's not the first to have a couple of Tests where he has a bad run. Outside of Clarke he is the only player in the side to average 40. Was 45 before this series started before it dropped. So he has many in the side behind him as it stands. Wasn't on his own there though in the Indian series. Fact is, like near every other batsman ion the side, there is no-one to replace him. Lucky we can bowl fast well, and they make runs to boot.

Cowan could make a bit of money I expect. I'm most impressed by Starc - he could make a killing, but he's focussing on his tests

Khawaja, Paine, Ahmed & Harris in.

Hughes, Wade, Lyon & Starc out.

Do this and win the ashes, trust me.
