Jim Maxwell is spot freakin on.

the standards have dropped in every way since Punter and Hussey retired, both on and off the field.

IMO they need to make an example of Warner right here, not just to get it through his thick head, but to straighten out the rest of the squad.

Read the article recently on Ponting's influence on his IPL team?

This has the thing where Warner thought Root was taking the piss out of Amla.

I agree with you on the course of action Warner should have taken.

Ah that's where I got the beard thing from. Wasn't aware they had new info.Still a couple of weird things which I'm sure will be clarified (eg why Warner thought Amla was being made fun of despite there being no interaction between the two. I doubt Warner has just decided Root is making fun of Amla without there being any verbal element to it ).
News Ltd are saying there was interaction between the two groups which makes more sense in the scope of the thing.

I don't think these guys would have made the decision not to go out, despite being allowed to, if Ponting/Hussey were there. Ponting/Hussey don't have that sort of an influence imo. But if Ponting/Hussey were there, they'd be two less younger, more immature, more impulsive guys there... But then I don't think anyone is really in favour of dropping say Maxwell for say Steve Smith because Smith is a bit more mature when it comes to off-field stuff... So it's a tricky spot they find themselves in.

Would two 37s year olds be invited to a lads night out with Warner, Hughes and Mitch Marsh?

82 and still delivering zingers on Twitter of all places, never leave us, Richie

Now papers are saying Warner got pissed at root coz he was using a fake wig/beard to impersonate Hashim Amla, how about getting angry at yourself for impersonating an international opener

Witnesses last night described how the Australian and English players arrived at the Walkabout Aussie-themed pub about 1.30am and were ushered together to a VIP area close to the bar.
They were all in a group together and despite being opponents on the field that day were drinking happily together and chatting.

At some point, there was a push and shove by Warner on Root with other players stepping in quickly.
Root reportedly had been wearing a wig and turned it into a beard and made some remark before it was ripped off by Warner who chipped him on the chin.
Apparently there were other joke props about.
"They were all a bit merry but not drinking excessively and there was some issue between the two but others dealt with it quickly," one witness said.
"Both of them (Warner and Root) went on chatting straight after so whatever it was couldn't have been that serious. That was the level of it. It wasn't anything full on.
"They all kept on socialising together for a short moment before Warner picked up the tab and everyone left."

Lol
Should be suspended for paying the tab for a pom

Exactly. Ponting/Hussey wouldn't've prevented the lads night out happening because they're not that powerful forces. They don't stop young guys being young guys (Taylor and the Waugh brothers didn't stop Ponting going out all those years ago...), but just because of how old they are and what not, they wouldn't've attended the night, meaning less people do attend the night meaning less chance of an incident. That's the issue, two guys with families and what not have effectively been replaced by young guys like Mitch Marsh and what not. That's of course gonna led to more disciple troubles but I don't think CA have been on top of this possible problem. (eg given how young this squad is....perhaps don't allow them to go out???)

Would love to keep fishing for Aussies but my nets are full and i have to do some work ! Mess with @joeroot05 you mess with us all !
I must admit, I'm loving reading the trolls by the England guys on Twitter, all good fun.

I don't think Warner will get sent home (given he was still running out drinks today), but he's bloody stupid.

From Alastair Cook:

"David Warner and Joe Root were in the VIP area. There was a small altercation. Both were chatting to each other afterwards. Warner picked up the tab and the players left 10 minutes after the incident. A punch was thrown but we believe that the punch did not connect."

Not that bad is it?

As far as the ECB go, they won't pursue it any further.

CA on the other hand, I expect singing and dancing

he's not the sharpest tool going around.

probably an oberblown incident, but he's still to build up a rap sheet.

this biggest thing this is gonna have with him over this tour (assuming he stays on, he would've been sent home straight away if they were going to) is that the barmy army are gonna give him everything they've got. he is gonna need to be very very thick skinned.

that threat from flintoff wouldn't scare a kid in a haunted house

I don't know why they use the term unprovoked with this sort of stuff, for a person to throw a punch at someone they had to have been provoked by something no matter how small or stupid. An 'undeserved' attack would probably be a much better term ;)

they say they want to put an end to all this crap that's been festering for so long. send him home and that might put an end to it
The problem I see is that they are small incidents.

He abused a journo - big deal.

He gave a cricketer a clip as he ripped off a fake beard but was chatting with him in an amicable fashion moments later - big deal.

Seriously, these are nothing incidents. We'd prefer they didn't occur but it's hardly like they are serious in nature. CA are ridiculous in their heavy handed manner in which they deal with these issues.

At least Davey did him homework in India!
