I would immagine we would all be more forgiving about this if the team and Warner were playing well
That would probably be more relevant if he wasn't in our top few test batsmen...

When you put his "club cricketer's average" into context, it's not nearly as bad as he portrays.

I don't think these guys would have made the decision not to go out, despite being allowed to, if Ponting/Hussey were there. Ponting/Hussey don't have that sort of an influence imo. But if Ponting/Hussey were there, they'd be two less younger, more immature, more impulsive guys there... But then I don't think anyone is really in favour of dropping say Maxwell for say Steve Smith because Smith is a bit more mature when it comes to off-field stuff... So it's a tricky spot they find themselves in.

The Captain calls the shots in Cricket, if Ponting/Hussey were still there (possibly even if Clarke was) and they told them that going out late the night after/before a big game wasn't on, then I doubt it'd happen - and, if it did, there would be consequences.

Not only that, isn't Warner effectively a senior player in this side?

In the end a relatively nothing instance. I'll save my rage for the high likelihood of Warner having no idea against a swinging ball in England.

As far as English players go, I really quite like Cook.

Yep Dave is about to be found out. Or (hopefully) not. I am going to be at Trent Bridge to watch it unfold.

Let me guess the plan from them ... around the wicket quick inswingers just above off stump with the odd one pushed away. Exactly what they did to Gilchrist in 2005. Our only hope is the bowling.

Isn't that the whole problem. Australia are to cricket what Melbourne is to footy.

I don't care - I'm now going for England. These guys are buffoons and have been for a long time.

you are barracking for england as an australian? are you eddiesmith?

Warner is really in an invidious position on a number of fronts. He is making shitloads of $$ from the game playing all three forms for his country as well as IPL $$ but in any other period in Australian Cricket history he would be lucky to play for his state - good luck to him. Traditionalists such as myself have to get over that fact. Representing your country and being paid handsomely to do so is an honour, not a right. Every time the media rights increase, the players get their share, for it is written into the MOU, right place right time for all of them but with that comes higher levels of expected behaviour but also higher levels of invasion on their personal space. Warner was on A/L from CA when playing in the IPL and frankly who cares what he did over there, I don't - but some players have been held to account over declining behavioural standards and missed a Test as a result, so where does this fit in on the list of punishable indescretions, given recent history.

Warner has enough form issues and doubts both internal and external to deal with, without drawing further attention himself in this manner. The last loose cannon in the team left the game way too soon and if he had his time over I bet you he would have done many things differently, which would have prevented him from having to dive into a pool for some coin later in life. The best thing would be for him to get some sort of a rest for awhile, but having just spent his six weeks off from CA playing in the IPL and back to back Ashes series looming, just how is that supposed to happen.

Sending him home would be an extreme measure, but it might be what he needs to get his head right.

The issue the selectors have is that the homework fiasco was meant to be their line in the sand, either all the players pulled their heads in or they started looking for a new career.

Since that apparent line in the sand moment warner has made an arse of himself not once but twice so either he pays a heavy price or as many suspected the homework scandal wasn't a true line in the sand moment for all players but instead a rather poorly handled and public kick up the bum for watto.

The homework scandal was more about the fact that players couldn't be bothered obeying an instruction from the coach.

"Today with the team we've drawn a line in the sand and said these are the expectations of you as an Australia cricketer and these are the expectations of you going forward into making us the number one ranked side in the world, which we all aspire to be." -coach mickey arthur 11 march 2013

Then don't come back when things are better.

This is my plan too. Hopefully Root fields in the slips/gully, so many opportunities for puns.

Seems like a beat up, he's been suspended from one game, got a dressing down, should probably be the end of it. But can't see there being nothing more after homeworkgate.

To be honest I am just over them (predominantly the batsmen and a certain keeper) and have been for a while. They are a bunch of entitled twats operating in their own little vacuum (sic. boys club) without an ounce of class and Warner is about the worst of them. Now there has always been a bit of this in cricketers but at least the worst ones in the past did it with a bit of charisma and humour. These guys are incapable of either. If cricket wants to improve its standing in Australia then a good start would be an improvement in the attitude of the players. Me jumping off has nothing to do with being successful or unsuccessful, they are just plain and simple flogs (again predominantly some batsmen and a certain keeper - I don't mean to generalise but the other guys could show some leadership and pull them into line except for the fact the worst flogs are the official leaders).

You're never going to make everyone happy I guess. When we were dominating people were saying it was 'boring', now we're average people don't want to watch because we're 'shit', others it seems don't want to support arrogant w***ers(of which there are some in most professional sports teams) but if they were all Ed Cowans you can bet there would be those complaining about them being dull and boring. Can't win with everyone.

While i agree this current team has more than it's fair share of flogs thats still no excuse for supporting the poms.

lets also remember it wasn't that long ago this england team were all acting like little prats having a cat fight over a twitter account of all things.

Both teams have plenty of arrogant tossers, the only reason you would switch and support their bunch is they are going to win.

We are going to cop enough shit from serial flogs like Vaughan as it is, why Davey why???

If CA had any balls they'd send him home. Having said that, watching him look thoroughly bewildered and out of his depth in the Ashes might be the correct level of justice.
