Warner would be a hilarious selection. He can go big, but provides no stability, technique has a way to go I think, plenty of improvement left.

There has to be a better option, regardless of age.

I can't get to 50 hughes.

Neither is his temperament or attitude for that matter. Seems like a pretty good option to me.

I can't get to 2 Haddin...

On the bright side he hasn't dropped catches.

I really don't care about a keepers batting as much as their keeping.

not getting to 30 is not as damaging as dropping catches and his shite dropped catches contributed as much to the loss of the ashes as the failure of our bats and bowlers.

How long until we see him in the test side?

First Class average of 60 after 10 games. People will say he's a T20 specialist but he's clearly showing he can adapt to all forms.

Hope to see him in the baggy green this summer.

Khawaja should be next in line at this point.

Ponting and Hussey wont be around forever, Marsh is only just in the side.

Would prefer to see Warner have a full season of first class cricket and see how he goes (although as Phone point out he's been hitting grade runs for years, earnt his shot at the NSW side thats for sure).

Good to see him batting well though.

if either phil hughes or watson falls over and gets injured. he will be in

or if ponting contiunes to suck. can then move watson to 4.

has moved ahead of usman in their eyes no doubt. as above would prefer him to have a full summer and get exp in perth, brisbane etc. he may be the most experienced 10 game FC player ever, but he's still a 10 game FC player who hasn't had the time to prove whether this is a purple patch or - more or less - what to expect. he'll have two matches against NZ - one for NSW, one for Aus A in brisbane- to really build his case. success there and they could move in asap. wouldn't really be thrilled if he plays this summer.

He shouldnt have moved ahead of Ussie, Ussie's pretty unfortunate to not be in the side at present.

His Shield tons have been against WA and SA and his Aus A runs have been against Zimbabwe. I mean, it would be nice if he had to face a competitive team before he got into the test team.

I don't mind him getting a shot though at least he is scoring runs when he gets the opportunity but I feel like Usman is getting shafted somehow through not playing.

He scored 90 odd in the shield final as well from memory, that was against a reasonable attack

Dunno about unfortunate.

He's had a few chances to cement a spot and hasn't taken them. Got some starts but didn't kick on.
Well he got declared on on the road where Marsh got to get a ton at three (they could've easily move Khawaja, a top order bat, up there). Test before that no one got runs really.

I mean Marsh grabbed his opportunity and good on him for that, but it was unfortunate for Khawaja it played out that way.

I am not discounting the runs Warner has made against weaker opposition fact is if it was so easy why didn't other players cash in on that tour as well. It shows he is developing the ability to bat for long peroids of time. He could be our own version of Sehwag.

Whilst there is a lot of water to pass under the bridge in the next 12-24 months, i would like to see Ponting, Haddin (sooner rather than later) Hussey (later rather than sooner) moved on and Warner, Khawaja, Paine into the side.

Hughes
Warner
Marsh
Watson
Clarke
Khawaja
Paine

This gives us a solid top 7 aged between 23 and 32 that could bat together for 5 years.

I reckon he could be handy coming in at #6. He could change the course of a match in one session, the way Gilly (consistently) and Symonds (occasionally) used to.

Then again, he is a natural opener and probably isn't the kind of player you'd want coming in when the side is 4/40 as is so often the case these days. I think Usman would be better suited for that.

Also worth noting that Warner bowls some handy leg-breaks (I think) which could help his cause in a small way.

I wonder if Warner is still a bit too hit-and-miss for Test cricket?

He still strikes me as the kind of guy who'll get a cavalier run-a-ball century or a duck.

If we were desperately trying to hang on for a draw and not get bowled out, I'd be much happier seeing Watson, Kawaja and Marsh walk in than Warner.....

Sehwag says hello :p

If you have been keeping an eye on his FC scores you would realise that isn't the case. He has been scoring at a SR around 70, starting innings slow and once he is set lifting the SR.
