On what criteria do people want judge. Sometimes crickets harsh and a spot becomes available and the guy in form takes it. People called on Warner to prove his first class creditinals and many doubted him. Myself included.

the man's a **** of a bloke but his first class form is probably better than anyone and he has shown some recent consistency in this format of the game.

And Cossie got injured.

More pissed off about Marsh being injured than who he's being replaced with. If Marsh's back hadn't strained then Hughes could have been gone :(

BF: Why are selectors picking favourites!? Start picking players on FC and Sheffield Shield form!

Selectors: David has been in tremendous form for New South Wales in all forms of the game including a recent century for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield competition

BF: Who cares if he's making runs or not, he's shit! Not a test player! Joke! Shambles!

I could try and make a case but what I have seen and heard him say wont resinate on bigfooty and turn the thread to shit.

so personal opining and let the others make their own opinions of him.

So I'll just leave it there now and on a cricket front say he deserved his call up.

:) yes probably wise

It's utterly hilarious how there's a stigma against Warner.

People are assuming that because he's a good T20 player, that he couldn't play a good FC innings. Well he has 900 FC at an average of 60 and a SR of 70 to go with 5 scores above 50 in 16 innings. Stats don't lie and those look pretty good to me.

Just shows how utterly banal the Australian cricket community is. No wonder we have shit selectors.

There is a difference between making runs in Shield cricket and being able to convert that into being a good test player. Warner and Hughes for that matter simply don't have the technique to succeed at Test level. That's why we should be looking at Maddinson.

They are looking at Maddinson, no doubt about it. Good technique, stylish, etc.

But just not for the immediate future.

He's only 19, has only played 10 Shield matches, and only* averages 41. Maddinson has to put all that into the scores he produces for NSW first, then he'll be more seriously considered.

*I say only in the sense that anyone who is 19 years old and has played just 10 matches would have to be banging the door down a whole lot more than a 41 average suggests.

I hate NSW as much as the next Victorian but you can't argue with Warner being selected. He is the most if not very close to the inform opener in the SS. Sure if he gets in before Usman there is something wrong but there is nothing wrong with him being picked as a back up.

Im Victorian and some of you who just come 2 these boards during Test matches who have no interest in the Sheffield Shield should open your eyes hes been in great from. Idiots

Excellent decision. Awarding the most in form opening batsman in the competition while also managing to piss off all of the Victorian supporters, who obviously had countless better Victorian alternatives.

One of Hilditch's better moments.

Odds are he wont even play anyway. Unless they drop Hughes and slot Khawaja in at 3.

To the people who think there is a bias towards NSW, I refer this article:

pfft... that article is so biased

This is a positive thing for Australian Cricket.

For everyone who has pigeon holed Warner as purely a 20-20 player, let's remember the guy is only 25 years old and has at least 10 years to develop his game and technique into one well suited to Test cricket.

On that note, one of Warner's greatest features is sharp hand eye co-ordination, this makes him a deadly master blaster and reliable fielder. Having the hand-eye coordination is part of the battle, just look at how Ponting is finding trouble now that age is taking away his reflexes. If Warner can tighten his technique a little more (and there has been drastic improvement in the last 2 years), he could well be the next Matthew Hayden of the Aussie cricket team. Sure, still a long way to go for that to happen, but I think you all forget Hayden was predominantly an ODI specialist when he started, the Test role came later on.

Hughes must be dropped either way.

A bigger worry is Ponting. The man was a legend, but his eyes and reflexes have somewhat deserted him now. His ego was always an issue, now its a death knell. Ponting has always had a habit of getting himself out walking across his stumps and trying to play through mid-wicket, but it's fair to say that aside from Sachin he is probably one of the most video analysed batsmen for opposition teams and they have obviously developed strategies for getting him out. He either needs to accept that his technique must be changed, or retire.

Haddin has not respected his place in Test cricket for quite some time. Ever since his loose shot, holing out in the 2009 Ashes series decider, I have despised his approached to the game. His keeping skills are well below par. Get rid of the ****ing gum before I break your jaw.

My side for the next Test.

Considering they need to WIN this test to save the series, given that the track will most likely DO LESS than the last, they need to be aggressive and put on runs at a 4.0+ RR.

1. Warner (for Hughes)
2. Haddin (Why not? He goes hard at the ball, the ball might as well be hard. He is useless in a collapse, might as well start one.)

(These two should watch the first 10 overs carefully, then if by small chance they are still around, loosen up and cut loose.)

3. Khawaja (for Marsh, needs to play the linchpin from here.)

4. Clarke (Keep on batting how he has been.)

5. Ponting (The ball will be at least 40 overs old by this stage. He will get to 50 before getting his front leg adjacent with the stumps.)

(Hopefully looking at around to 60th over before the next wicket.)

6. Hussey (He's in form, just needs to get in at the crease.)

7. Watson (He gets a good 10-20 overs under his belt before the 2nd new balls.)

8. Siddle (Has the best technique of the rest. Depending on the situation (quick runs or conslidation) would be preferred here. Would give a batsmen like Hussey more reason to stick around.)

9. Johnson (Hack.)

10. Harris (Delay-rey. Looks cumbersome, should duck short balls and throw the sink at half volleys.)

11. Cummins (Give the kid a go. Short bursts.)

All well and good, but Warner actually has a terrific technique.
