the incident with his grade team was very poor form indeed. sums up where he considers himself really.

Ding, ding, ding ... we have a winner. Look, Warner is probably the biggest dickwad to play cricket since Harbajahan Singh, but why would he bother bring professional and staying on the straight and narrow when the authorities choke every time they hand down a punishment? You can almost say it's fair enough he carries on like a tool ... because they let him be one.

Warner is everything that's wrong with the modern-day cricketer. Earns $3m plus playing 40-ball innings in India, gets a few sponsorships and doesn't give a shit about anything else, baggy green included./

Good call, sums it up well, self entitled arrogant shit and if we have half as many players pushing for selections as we did 20 years ago he'd be playing for NSW for the foreseeable future.

At best he's a potential matchwinner and superstar in the field, at worst he exposes the top/middle order and is a disruptive influence, campaigner needs to pull his head in.

The guy deserves a break. Once in a while. Then considering the ashes are on next and the Saffas after that I don't see how anyone should be getting on his back. He is human.
With respect, if you are being serious, it's not that difficult to follow a request (or even directive) to play grade cricket. It didn't seem too difficult for Smith and Lyon from how I read the report.

H has failed to perform because of a terrible unprofessional attitude which is a key factor in why we are performing so poorly but he deserves a break?
Give me a burka:rolleyes:
The guy doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the Test or OD side, T20 only.

I've been a big supporter of Davey Warner, and I still reckon he's our best available Test opener, but really...what the hell was the thinking? At times, he comes across as a really loyal team player, might shoot his mouth off a bit but sticks up for his mates and loves his cricket, but at others...urgh.

As a former Randwick player - I find it an ordinary act from a player who has been there 5 minutes and elected to put himself above the team and the club, no wonder Easts were happy to see him go. Some may argue that as a professional he has the right to put himself ahead of the club, I would argue this type of behaviour is symptomatic of the lack of team ethos that Hussey has indicated that was starting to move through the Australian team.

Does anyone still seriously think he's a captaincy option after this? Rather than take the field like every other NSW player he elected to make his club field one short (CNSW did not allow Randwick to utilise a 12th man - a game which they subsequently lost) have a bat in the nets, do a bit of fitness work and then head off to the races at Randwick.

He needs to get used to playing for Randwick - it's where he will be playing the majority of his cricket unless things turn around pretty quickly.

Leaving them to field one short is a magnificent way to make himself despised at the club..:D Which he would know. Obviously doesn't give a shit.

Yeah that's shit form, you can't imagine a Ricky Ponting or a Michael Hussey doing this ever.

He's a ******, if he wasn't protected by the marketing flogs at Cricket Australia and best mates with the Captain, we'd have rightly pissed him off by now.

His form will do that for him, combined with his off field exploits. He'll probably knock up a ton on Sunday, but he does not appear to be watching the ball closely enough. He's walking forward to balls that he would have pulled for 6 when his mind was uncluttered.

I've never thought he was captaincy material.

Out of interest, why did Cricket NSW not allow Randwick to field a 12th man? It wasn't the club's fault that Warner was an idiot and let them down.

All CNSW players were directed to play for their clubs, Warner had been listed to play as such and as is the norm in this case replacements move down the respective grades as Day 1 was conducted without the guys in the Ryobi Cup squad. Warner didn't turn up, Randwick sought to field a sub and were told that they couldn't as Warner wasn't injured or granted leave not to play. Perfectly reasonable given the circumstances.

I never thought he was worthy of captaining the Darlington Kindergarten 2nd XI but some fools in high places did - and that's the real worry.

I'd argue the exact opposite. Randwick, through no fault of their own, found themselves a player short and were not allowed to cover the absence. Hardly seems a reasonable stance on the part of Cricket NSW to me.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation, you answered my question. :)

Not sure if you fully understand the system. When players are involved with the state team on week 1 they are either directed to play (as in this case) with their grade team on week 2 or in some circumstances, given the option of playing or not. Many years ago when I played, we had Anthony Stuart and Richard Chee Quee playing with the Blues and and from time to time it would mean two players going up or dropping back mid game.

In this situation, the players were all directed by CNSW to play grade cricket, which I applaud because they see the gaps getting bigger between Grade and State cricket. All players were added to the teamsheets and players dropped back to 2nd grade and so on throughout the five grades.

Randwick turned up sans D Warner and were refused a substitute because under the rules of cricket he was not injured and had not been excused from the game by CA or CNSW, therefore through no fault of their own they had to field one short. Mike Whitney is a great man and a more passionate supporter of Cricket and Randwick Petersham you will not find... So it must have been through gritted teeth he had to cop it on the chin and defend a bloke who had been there five minutes, who put himself before the club, something Whit would never have done. I commend the CNSW approach.

was chatting to a randwick supporter a few weeks back and he said DW was causing some angst officials/players. that was before he did a no show.

i didn't realise randwick had to field with 10. **** me they would have been pissed off allright.

he will most likely get picked in the first test but he is doing everything to piss everyone off that he can. as always he'll continue to be persisted with because he can be a match winner, but at the moment he isn't. with 8 tests against jimmy anderson, stuart broad, dale steyn, vernon philander and morne morkel coming up, you would say at the moment he is a 50/50 chance (at best) to still be in the team by the 8th.

I'd put him in Australia A and for the NSW tour match. He performs or he doesn't get selected.

I probably would too, but (rightly or wrongly) they have already shown that they will give him every opportunity, and (again rightly or wrongly) more leeway than just about everything other batsmen in the country. His form is no different to what it was during the recent ashes tour. Barring a disastrous run of scores in the longer form games, I would be surprised if he is left out of the first test team.

Averaging 24 in India, 23 in the Ashes games he was allowed to play, and his behavioural problems might have something to do with that. That big score for the "A" side looked like he might have found form, nothing before or since has suggested that.
He does average almost 50 in Australia though, so will be picked based on that and marketing.

If he continues in the same form he cannot be picked - he'll be lucky to stay in the NSW team the way he is going. The day Australian sides are picked based on marketing appeal is the day I pull stumps.
