Ding, ding, ding ... we have a winner. Look, Warner is probably the biggest dickwad to play cricket since Harbajahan Singh, but why would he bother bring professional and staying on the straight and narrow when the authorities choke every time they hand down a punishment? You can almost say it's fair enough he carries on like a tool ... because they let him be one.
Warner is everything that's wrong with the modern-day cricketer. Earns $3m plus playing 40-ball innings in India, gets a few sponsorships and doesn't give a shit about anything else, baggy green included./
With respect, if you are being serious, it's not that difficult to follow a request (or even directive) to play grade cricket. It didn't seem too difficult for Smith and Lyon from how I read the report. The guy deserves a break. Once in a while. Then considering the ashes are on next and the Saffas after that I don't see how anyone should be getting on his back. He is human.
He cares a fair bit more about the baggy green than his IPL IMO.

H has failed to perform because of a terrible unprofessional attitude which is a key factor in why we are performing so poorly but he deserves a break? The guy deserves a break. Once in a while. ThisI've been a big supporter of Davey Warner, and I still reckon he's our best available Test opener, but really...what the hell was the thinking? At times, he comes across as a really loyal team player, might shoot his mouth off a bit but sticks up for his mates and loves his cricket, but at others...urgh.
As a former Randwick player - I find it an ordinary act from a player who has been there 5 minutes and elected to put himself above the team and the club, no wonder Easts were happy to see him go. Some may argue that as a professional he has the right to put himself ahead of the club, I would argue this type of behaviour is symptomatic of the lack of team ethos that Hussey has indicated that was starting to move through the Australian team.
Does anyone still seriously think he's a captaincy option after this? Rather than take the field like every other NSW player he elected to make his club field one short (CNSW did not allow Randwick to utilise a 12th man - a game which they subsequently lost) have a bat in the nets, do a bit of fitness work and then head off to the races at Randwick.
He needs to get used to playing for Randwick - it's where he will be playing the majority of his cricket unless things turn around pretty quickly.
Which he would know. Obviously doesn't give a shit.Leaving them to field one short is a magnificent way to make himself despised at the club..Which he would know. Obviously doesn't give a shit.
He's a ******, if he wasn't protected by the marketing flogs at Cricket Australia and best mates with the Captain, we'd have rightly pissed him off by now.
I've never thought he was captaincy material.Does anyone still seriously think he's a captaincy option after this? Out of interest, why did Cricket NSW not allow Randwick to field a 12th man? It wasn't the club's fault that Warner was an idiot and let them down.
I'd argue the exact opposite. Randwick, through no fault of their own, found themselves a player short and were not allowed to cover the absence. Hardly seems a reasonable stance on the part of Cricket NSW to me.All CNSW players were directed to play for their clubs, Warner had been listed to play as such and as is the norm in this case replacements move down the respective grades as Day 1 was conducted without the guys in the Ryobi Cup squad. Warner didn't turn up, Randwick sought to field a sub and were told that they couldn't as Warner wasn't injured or granted leave not to play. Perfectly reasonable given the circumstances.
I never thought he was worthy of captaining the Darlington Kindergarten 2nd XI but some fools in high places did - and that's the real worry.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation, you answered my question.![]()
was chatting to a randwick supporter a few weeks back and he said DW was causing some angst officials/players. that was before he did a no show.
i didn't realise randwick had to field with 10. **** me they would have been pissed off allright.
he will most likely get picked in the first test but he is doing everything to piss everyone off that he can. as always he'll continue to be persisted with because he can be a match winner, but at the moment he isn't. with 8 tests against jimmy anderson, stuart broad, dale steyn, vernon philander and morne morkel coming up, you would say at the moment he is a 50/50 chance (at best) to still be in the team by the 8th.
I'd put him in Australia A and for the NSW tour match. He performs or he doesn't get selected.
Shame Hughes doesn't get the same amount of chances that Warner does.

Averaging 24 in India, 23 in the Ashes games he was allowed to play, and his behavioural problems might have something to do with that. That big score for the "A" side looked like he might have found form, nothing before or since has suggested that.
He does average almost 50 in Australia though, so will be picked based on that and marketing.
