Can the club force players to not leave the hotel?
I'm sorry, but I think this is ridiculous. Night game = back late anyway. Who cares if 3 players want to head out for a couple of hours to celebrate a good win. If it was the 2 Shaws and Thomas would we have dropped all three? Or are we just scared of what the AFL might do to us if we stuff up. What happens if one of our players drops some rubbish on the ground or picks his nose in public? A $5000 fine and a loss of draft picks for the next 20 years. OVERREACTION!
And another thing. Can the club force players to not leave the hotel? There is a big difference between heading out for a couple of quiet beers to getting in a fight over whether it's 2 shots on the black.
I know there's lots of evidence (Cousins, Hall, etc) that says players need to be told when and what to do 24 hours a day, but could we just think about it for a minute, and remember it's a free country! How far does their employment agreement stretch? 24x7x52?? I think not!
I don't think that would have much to do with it, you're assuming alot of things there. You don't know if they even asked Dick and whether they are actually that close.

dont count on it, none of those players deserve to regain there spots the following week. They are all good, but not that outstanding. Give brown a chance instead of presti. For Egan thats just really really really stupid Davis probably moreso. At least Cox has his recent good form to make him feel secure.
Egan and especially Davis are already on knife edges far as I can see.
It's not that they left the hotel,it's that they broke the team rules.
The rules would have been told to every single player on our list before the start of the season.
Even when I was playing Amatuers,we had a rule saying that you can't get on the piss the night before, and everybody agreed to the rule at the start of the season, and stuck to it.
When you play for Collingwood, you do what you are damn well told. No exceptions.I'm sorry, but I think this is ridiculous.
But that's before the game, this is after. Assuming their night out didn't affect their post-game recovery, what is the harm?
Don't you dare bring communism into this!
I'm happy with this.
It's little things like this that stop team incidents from escalating to West Coast Eagle-levels.
If these guys are being suspended for leaving the hotel without even getting into an incident, simply because they were told not to, then they're definitely going to know what is going to happen to them when they do something a lot worse.
Besides, Didak for Davis, Medhurst for Egan, Wakelin/Goldsack for Cox... Pretty easy swaps to make. If Brodie is to come straight back into the team, then that's another spot to be found - Possibly one of Presti/Clement not coming up.
I
This may sound like a crazy comment but it might even be better for the long term prospects of the team if we lost to Carlton by a couple of points on the weekend after this incident happened. Then the players would see that even the smallest of bad decisions can have an impact on the entire team and all of them can learn a lesson that will strengthen their commitment and desire for the future.
that is crazy
we need top 4 this year to do any damage
I'm coming from the position that I don't think this is our year to win the flag. It's still a learning process for a lot of the players and losing to Carlton this week could be one of the more important lessons they learn this year that will help them for the future.
I'm thinking short-term pain for long-term gain.![]()
i can see part of your point, but we need every point we can get.injuries could cripple us later
i still think this is a crap move by the leadership group,we should handle it in-house.with out letting the press know everything.what happen in round 22 if a few senior players stuff up?
Don't think they were on the dry. Just not allowed out, Tarrant and Holland screwed it for the rest last year, can't blame the club, they have got better things to do than baby sit.**** the rules, millane wouldnt get a game if he played now![]()
guys cant even have a beer anymore, its not communist china.
