Luczak d Yang 6-3 6-3
Tomic d Yi 6-7 6-0 6-3

Not the best match from Tomic, but Yi played a really good tiebreak to take the first, but Tomic recovered well to take the match.

Lleyton's recovery is apparently ahead of schedule, and there may be a chance he is fit for the tie against Japan.

Watched Luczak, was alright but really this was just match practice today.

Good news about Lleyton but I just hope he's back when he's ready to go, playing a tie that will likely be on hard courts then going straight to clay and then grass in a space of a few weeks, a bit of a concern, i wouldn't blame Lleyton skipping the tie, it's placed the weekend beofre the Madrid Masters

If we can't win these Mickey Mouse ties without Hewitt we don't deserve to be in the World Group anyway. I say let the man rest until the playoffs.

We were lucky that we weren't on Kazakhstan side of the draw, they actually have a good team. In the end we want to play to our best team so obviously Lleyton would be in there, doesn't matter if we're in the World Group or we're playing zonals, getting to the World Group is the main priority.

Japan at home is a tie we should be able to get away without Hewitt but Nishikori is always a danger, he was doing well before his injury. I would actually liked to play this tie on clay, I know it's not going to happen, too expensive but Japanese aren't suited to the clay and really our other best player is in Luczak suited to the stuff.

Am I right in saying the Spain-France tie will be in France?

I'm in Europe around the time of the quarter finals. When do tickets go on sale and how hard are they to get?

Not sure exactly but usually they have some info on the davis cup website on how to get tickets etc. yeah the tie will be played in France. Should be a very interesting tie. So should Croatia/Serbia

Djokovic taking 5 sets to beat Isner, watched the first few sets, was a hilarious match, Djokovic's mental state seems to be getting worse by the week, Isner was very close to winning this.

Djokovic needing 5 sets to beat Isner? Slight concern ahead of Indian Wells. I'm starting to think he'll never reach his potential, certainly not with his mental strength.

Watched Monfils and Tsonga's singles matches, Kohli seriously blew so many chances during the match, typical performance really. Tsonga played well and probably should've won in straights, to his credit Becker hung in there and made it a contest.

Great stuff by the Aussies, obviously very little competition but 5-0 is good and pleased to see Tomic get two wins. :thumbsu:

Don't speak too soon!:p

Australia will play Japan in their Asia–Oceania second round Davis Cup by BNP Paribas clash on a specially built clay court at Pat Rafter Arena at the Queensland Tennis Centre, it was announced today.

The tie will be played from 7 to 9 May with the winner advancing to the World Group Play-offs in September.

Can't believe they've actually going to do it, for a zonal tie! Such a smart option though, smack bang in the middle of the clay season on Japan's least favourite season, I wonder if this will make Luczak to make the trip down now. Hope Hewitt's fit or we'll have to play Ball for the singles.

Who do Japan have that's actually a threat on any surface? Nishikori has been out of the game for ages and is so rarely fit as it is and I know none of their other guys.

They don't really have anyone highly ranked at the moment, Sugita won a challenger in Kyoto last week, but it was a pretty weak field, he beat Matthew Ebden in the final. They also have Ito and Soeda, but i don't think any of them are in the top 200 even. They'd probably want Nishikori back if they want to be competitive, but hes been out of the game for a year now, and he lost in the first round of his comeback match at Delray Beach, they would be really desperate to rely on him.

Suzuki still plays DC (in the doubles), i know he hates the clay, Nishikori if he was to play also hates clay, i assuming the same for the rest with it being right in the clay season, it'sa good option.

Just wanted to say what a credit it is to Ball, Hewitt, Hanley and Luczak that all are available for Davis Cup given the ridiculous timing.

It's one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen in sports. Why is the tie being played at this time instead of the normal set ITF date after Wimbledon? I can't understand it.

I also can't believe more hasn't been said about this, Lleyton only came out in an article yesterday complaining about the timing. It's completely unfair to all players. Luczak should be Munich right now.

Luczak is surely injured, otherwise why on earth has he come all the way down here when he could of been playing Munich to just be on the bench. Pete is a bit out of form but not Carsten Ball out of form!

Oddly enough Lleyton has played Ito before, remember watching Lleyton beat him last year in Tokyo, it was comfortable 6-1, 7-5 but Lleyton struggled in that 2nd set.

Tomic is good and an intelligent choice by the selecters. There is still time for Ball to improve his rating and come up in the next season.

I don't get that post.

Good start by the Aussies, both Balla nd Hewitt winning comfortably in straight sets, no worries now, just going to be a relief to play playoffs for the World Group in September.
