Hewitt loses 6-3 6-2 7-6 (2)

Bloody hell that was impressive from Tsonga.

Yep, seem to play inspired tennis. Lleyton threw everything at him in the 3rd but couldn't get through. Nice quality match.

Honestly can't be annoyed at either of the straight sets losses tonight.

Didn't watch a whole lot of the match but from what I saw Tsonga looked bloody superb on the clay. If he's able to keep that form up he's not without a chance at the French - he's got the game to beat Rafa on a clay court, just not the consistency or mentality.

I hate clay.
I play on clay courts and love it; I probably prefer hard courts, but I'd take clay over grass (to play on) any day of the week. My game style suits clay pretty well as I hit with a lot of top spin off both sides (I hit my backhand with the same grip as Kuerten and my forehand with a slightly less extreme grip than Rafa's) and also have a pretty decent drop shot, so that may have something to do with it.

In terms of as a spectator though, clay is generally pretty boring.

Yes, I meant as a spectator and the fact that it generally doesn't favour Australians. It always looks cheap and crummy to me too, probably because it reminds me of the old en tout cas courts I grew up playing on (posh people had grass, the rest of us had en tout cas)

Yeah, fair enough, it's certainly not the most entertaining surface. Especially with so many defensive grinders/pushers around at the moment. The French is the one GS I just can't get into - you'll hardly ever see me switch off matches at any other slam, but I do it regularly at the French. It takes the right kinds of players to make a clay court match exciting.
