Ah, sorry if I was wrong. I was confused because this says that before last tie that US played at home against us 2 ties in a row.

I have a feeling we would be playing the USA at home again myself. Last year's tie was to make up for the special tie played in Boston almost twenty years ago - this was Lleyton Hewitt's first tie as a player. So I suspect it's our turn on the rotation to host.

Disappointing Stepanek isn't playing, was really looking forward to this doubles rubber.

We will struggle to beat the US away I think.

Yes and no. They clearly have better depth in the singles in spite of the Bryan Bros retiring. They will need to decide on a new doubles partnership that works. They have gone with Johnson/Querry this time.

However, last year at home, they were 2-0 up over Croatia before Čilić/Dodig beat the Bryan Bros and then Čilić and Ćorić beat Isner and Sock respectively.

I think we can beat US, we have a good doubles team and if Nick K ends up playing he will beat Isner or Jack Sock.

Credit to Hewitt, he is doing well leading our team. We seem more focus and stable this time round.

Convincing win!! Well done to all our team!!!

I think we can beat them too. Sounds like it will be home after all so that will help.

(Kooyong again please :D ;) :thumbsu: )

Also if we can get past USA I think the next round is winnable if you look at who our opponents might be (Argentina, Italy, Germany or Belgium).

Cannot understand why they said we'd be hosting, according to the rules we don't get to. Unless last year was their choice, and they chose to play in Melbourne because it was geographically sensible given the time of year.

If we do host, assuming they'll go with slow hardcourt or clay. Grass would benefit Isner and Querrey.

If it's grass it will probably be at Royal Sydney Golf Club.

From my understanding of what had been posted here it seems we were out of kilter with the hosting and the Americans owed us one, so that was the last one played last March at Kooyong. So now we disregard that and go back to the normal rotation which has us hosting again.

I agree, no grass against the Americans, has to be hardcourt.

If the weather holds up tomorrow will they still play the remaining dead rubber matches?

Groth is playing in the first of the reverse singles this morning instead of Kyrgios.
no surprise there.

it is good that we are playing the US. it will be like the Davis Cup of old. players wanting to play for their country and hopefully a packed crowd. last year's tie was something special.

and hardcourt. has to be hardcourt. can see Brisbane getting the tie, though it seems like it has been a while since Fed/Davis Cup was hosted in Sydney. they will play it on the eastern seaboard for US TV ratings surely.

Todd just cleared it up then. We're playing them again because in 1999 we played them for the 2nd time away in a row when it was meant to be our home tie and in exchange we got to host the next 2 ties against them.

Sydney had the world group playoff tie against Slovakia at Olympic park. I would hope Brisbane gets a shot here

Argentina is struggling in their tie.

No Delpo and the other hero (the one who beat Karlovic in the decider), Delbonis, is not there either. Delbonis also won both his matches when these 2 nations met last year while Delpo was there only to partner Pella in the crucial doubles rubber which they won in 5.

Spain surprisingly down against Croatia 1-2  (both Croatia's wins were in 5)

Croatia are playing out of their skins yet they could not have put out a worse team with no singles player inside the top 200 and no doubles players inside the top 50 against Bautista-Agut (singles), Carreno-Busta (singles), FLopez and MLopez (doubles).

knew i was forgetting something. Brisbane held the Fed Cup last year v the US.

So, that must mean it is either Canberra or Hobarts turn right....... :)

you cant go worst than Hobart. it is always so windy up here. that it might hurt the big servers.....
