We played Sweden overnight in Stockholm and won both the singles:

De Minaur beat Mikael Ymer, who was returning from a drug ban, 7-5 6-1

Vukic beat Leo Borg, Bjorn Borg's son, 6-4 6-4

Doubles match starts in roughly 90 minutes from now. Ebden/Peers should close out the tie for us 3-0 and get us into the second round of qualifying where we'll face the winner of the Belgium v Chile tie in September. If Chile wins, we should get a home tie as the last time we faced them it was in Chile. A Belgium tie would likely be in Belgium for the opposite reason.

Haha, I remember that tie, staying up all Saturday night to watch Carsten Ball and Chris Guccione drag it into a 3rd day only to get smashed by Fernando Gonzalez again. I miss the old format....

Losses to Duckworth and Hijikata, now we are 0-2 going into the doubles. Was never going to be easy given the altitude and against clay court specialist.

Might have been better to go with a long retired Richard 'no frills' Fromberg on clay than Ducky.

Disappointing so far. I watched bits of it and both Rinky and Ducky looked like they were playing well enough, maybe the altitude kicks in after a couple of sets. Lots of rain delays too which was annoying.

Thompson was meant to play in the singles but hurt his arm in a warm up apparently. If he is fit tomorrow maybe he will play one of the reverse singles (assuming we can win the doubles).

A combination on injury and form against us. Even an in form O'Connell on the clay would of got a win against either if this two opponents.

It wouldn't of mattered but we should of got that one.

Disastrous campaign.

Why replace Kubler in the doubles with an injured Thompson? A lot of strange decisions IMO.

Anyway we have the ignominy of being beaten by he lowest ranked nation of all the Davis Cup first round qualifiers :$

It was always going to be a tough tie but I truly do not understand playing Rinky on a wet clay court in singles, that makes no sense, the guy is a flat ball striker who struggles on clay.

Ducky I understand as he can at least play ont he stuff (even if he loves to lose a close match)

Hard when Thompson is injured but where's Vukic?

He may have arrived late but Kubler on clay seemed a better option than Rinky

Vukic is playing Rotterdam this week so I assume he made himself unavailable.

It's a good reminder that the players don't really want Davis Cup either. Not many top players played the week just gone and in our case as soon as it was a 'inconvenient location' tie a number didn't want to play.

Vukic was listed as part of the team so he should have been there.

Does anyone know how they determine whether it is a home or away tie? Why is it we had to travel to Equador when we are the higher ranked team?

I suppose it's a bit like State of Origin in the AFL. It's a nice idea but unfortunately it just may not be relevant anymore.

Venue alternates no matter what the round or conference. So next time we play Ecuador it will be at home
