Hmm maybe not quite retire at 30 but he needs to lift.

Maybe next year he can help us win all of our season games, then Goldsack can come in :p Personally i dont see how you can go to All Australian one year, to in and out of the side the next. Did he have a bad pre season or was he just played out of posistion? Maybe even carrying an injury. Who knows but i hope he can find that form again and play on for many more years to come. Has been an awesome contributer to the 22 (barring finals of course).

Its goodbye Leon and thanks for your wonderful service

Welcome back Tarrant

The guy HAS to be injured.

You don't just lose your pace and zip overnight..like he has.

With a thin draft you'd keep him for depth, unless either

a) you get a decent trade offer
b) he isn't injured and this is now his true level

Davis won't retire for another 2-3 years yet.

The reason for Davis' form slump is because he has made the move into the forward pocket. In the forward pocket Leon has difficulty influencing games consistantly from an offensive standpoint which has been his problem this season.

For Leon to break back into the senior side he needs to be moved back onto a half forward flank and also spend some time in the midfield which is where he found the consistancy in 2009 to win an AA position.

When Leon plays further up the ground he can still excert defensive influence as he has been in the forward pocket, but also the regular offensive influence which has been lacking in 2010. This is because Leon builds confident through getting his hands on the ball regularly.

So by moving him up field he can get his hands on the ball and we can make optimal use of his fantastic ball use which optimises the offensive side of his game which he can do consistantly by playing up field.

Hopefully Medhurst + Dick can break into the forward pockets regularly to allow Davis to play more of a HFF/midfield role. If all 3 of these players can hit strong form in 2011 and stay injury free we will be a very hard team to beat!

I hope he sticks around.

I also hope we draft his successor this year, because as much as I love Brad Dick, I have a Rusling-esque level of faith in his spindly-yet-awesome body.

I agree with this. Just with the draft limited in terms of small forwards it does make me wonder where we might be able to get this type from.

Certainly is my no.1 need.

Dick's durability does worry me and Davis is no forward pocket.

Why would he retire?

Where else is he going to be able to earn 250,000+ annually?

As much as I would prefer him in the side (for my sanity on Saturday) it is a good move by your club to drop him. He becomes utterly useless come finals.

Milne anyone??

RICHMOND.

ESSENDON.

GOLD COAST.

SYDNEY.

WEST COAST.

PORT ADELAIDE.

Should I go on?

:thumbsu:

Davis needs to get a run in the midfield since he is a confidence player and needs the touch of leather in his hands to get into the game and show his AA potential. Also needs to bring back and focus more on his offensive game from 2009 and become his dangerous self once again rather then 100% prioritized to pressure.

Will be hard for Davis to slip back into the side next year with the inclusion of Dick but I can still see him having a 'test run' with Medhurst early in the season for a few games to see how they hold up.

Milne anyone??

Milne performed very well in the first final, above average in the second and average in the third.

This finals series has been his best by so far apart from one semi against the swans in 2004.

He has finally shaken the choker/poor finals player tag....finally...touch wood

Got one cheap goal over the top and another that should've been a free to Harry. Don't bother posting on here when your team has them as well.

If you think Davis would not be "in demand" elsewhere, you are seriously mistaken and just blinded by the "media and BF hate" of Leon.

He would get a game at virtually every club in the comp.

I'd prefer to keep him. He has played 200+ games for our club and given us terrific service. At 29, he still has 2-3 years of footy left in him. I'd much rather see Lockyer go than Leon.

At the end of the day, we have a squad of 31 players capable of fitting into 22, however, only those with form will play. It's simple. It's been the standard that has propelled Collingwood to the top all year and every player has been fully aware of this. He'll be hurting now, no doubt but just like others that have missed out before him, he will just have to accept it and come back stronger.

He was offered to Adelaide in a straight swap for Knights at the end of last year - I think it was clear from late 2009 that he was just starting to slide and your club identified this. Sometimes they hit the wall a little earlier than usual, but still, you'd hope he's got another couple in him. Players like him give footy the rock and roll factor, would be a damn shame if this is it for Neon.

Leon has lost alot of pace over the last year. He will be phase out in favour of Dick

Leon is a square peg in a round hole.
To survive in the game he has had to trade Goals as a KPI for Tackles.

In finals GOALS would be far more valuable for Leon to retain his place but his defensive brain washing, has stifled his natural offensive instincts.
The "mercurial Leon" is gone and replaced by a tackle hunting shadow of his former self.
CFC win in the home and away, and both CFC and Leon lose in the finals, because a freakish goals sense and offensive mind set which can make the difference, have been erased from Leon game.
Many player can lay tackles, very few can kick goals like Leons last week.
This a classic example of improving ones weakness instead of focussing ones their strength.

I fear Brad Dick will also be forced to curb his naturally offensive instinct once he is a fews years into his career - but just like Leon, he has neither the body or temperament for this type of role.

What position did he play the majority of last year?

This year?

Don't you all think this is the connection?

I said this after like round five, they needed to put him back there so he could get his hands on the pill and in turn get back his confidence.

May have been hampered somewhat by injury but im sure he would of contributed a hell of a lot more if they had of rotated him through the midfield.

That is why I said he had an average third final (being a grand final)

He kicked two goals but that was it. Regardless of how talentless you depict them.

No need for tension either sunshine.

I'd imagine he may be wanted at West Coast. It's not like they're going anywhere near finals for another year or so. Maybe just to help them bolster their squad a little bit.

Maybe also at Gold Coast. Again, probably not going near finals for another year or two but he'd be a handy player to have in their team.

I can understand why they wouldn't want him as well.

I actually thought he was ok for the GF and he is improving in the big games. He was much better then Leon on Saturday. I hate when I go on the trades board and read posts from oposition fans saying Leon Davis is a dud. He is NOT a dud and he has had a good career apart from the big games. If he wanted a trade alot of clubs would after his services, the clubs dont listen to its fans when it comes trading or drafting time. I hope he still stays with us but if he really wanted to leave we should look at a deal with freo for tarrant.
