I am going to post this on both boards and to be honest i expect both teams to respond in favour of their own player but i was wondering who each would prefer to have in there team. Both are indiginous and have at times been accused of being one dimensional and lacking consistency but both players seem to be stepping up this year. What are your thoughts.

As nuts as this sounds I would have said Davis especially as he always rips it up against us. After Saturday night I'm leaning towards our Eddie. Not only did he look like he was responding from a rocket up him he was showing attributes I never thought him capable of re: excellent mobility all night.

Definitely prefer Davis as a player. More dangerous around the goals, kicks more goals. Betts played well on Saturday night as a midfielder, worked hard and won a lot of possessions. But he doesn't carry the ball all that well, doesn't use it especially well and isn't a great defensive midfielder, so in general that cancels out the good things he brings.

As a small forward, Davis is better; and that is where both players are suited to play.

Davis. Faster, longer kick and more goals. However Eddie is much younger and is doing very well. Is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than any player we drafted in the national draft that year.

Medhurst.

Interesting one. Talented player, but if I had a choice, wouldn't have him on my team. Just gives me the impression he's got a whole stack of baggage, and he's not talented enough to carry that off... (maybe its just his passing resemblance to Ben Cousins?)

Neon Leon and Eddie both probably have less talent and potential than Medhurst, but strike me as good team guys and decent players to have around if their form merits.

Davis clearly atm.

However, if Betts continues with his form from Saturday then clearly Eddie.
Lets no forget Betts tore it up when given a midfield role against melb last year.

So in 4 games Betts has been in our top 5 players for 2 of those matches, if his fitness can reach a consistent level he will become very important to our team :thumbsu:

doesn't really matter...the fact is collingwood have 4 gun small forwards in davis, medhurst, didak and dale thomas....all we have is eddie

Betts was ___ing good on Saturday night though, I'd never seen him anywhere near that good

Is he playing a new role this year?

Betts played his best game ever for the Blues last Sat night, he was Eddie Everywhere! Eddie will need to sustain that sort of the form over a period of time to be the player Davis currently is. It will come back to maintaining fitness / form and being given the opportunity by the match committee to play up the ground more.

Before this year Davis averaged 21 goals a season, Betts 20. Eddie is five years younger, so that is a plus, but needs to get more possessions. He is not damaging enough up forward. Last Saturday showed he has great potential. Can he back it up this week?

I would like to get some Collingwood perspective on this (for C'wood supporters this means that I wanna know what u rekkon:p)

I would think Davis has been a frustrating player to follow over the years. Some definite highs, but fairly frequent lows, and has never had any midfield presence, despite expressing a desire to.

Yep, he was frustrating up until a couple of years ago. before about 2006 he would kick the odd freak goal and turn it on a couple of times a season... unfortunately not in the grand finals!
The last couple of years though he has been outstanding for us and often used for bursts on the ball... he's really turned it around.

i think eddie is more consistent than neon was at the same stage of theyre careers.no doubt he can become much more consistent, but is fantastic to watch, when he lights the joint up,as is neon.

Right now ... Davis. I do remember Davis being in and out of the side and frustrating Pies fans not all that long ago though so recent form can be misleading considering he is older.

If you were looking at who you would want in your side for the season ... Davis. For the rest of their career .. Betts as he has longer left and has shown he can evolve into something else recently.

Both sets of supporters will be frustrated now and then, but marvel at some freakish skills the next moment.

I was a real critic of Leon in his early days. Played caviar football, couldn't be bothered doing the meat-and-potatoes stuff. He'd kick the impossible goal, scoop the ball up at pace -- do all the Hollywood stuff -- but just didn't work hard enough.

But his last two-and-a-bit years have been very good. The key is that he's improved his fitness. That means he's reaching more contests, he works harder defensively, he puts in more second and third efforts, he's spending more and more time in the midfield, he's getting more of the footy. I think he's probably played more as a mid this year than as a small forward. He's been our leading tackler for the last couple of years too.

Genuinely good player these days, Leon. But in footy it often takes your reputation a couple of years to catch up with your achievement.
