Someone else (chris25?) might know better than me but I don’t think there’s a great deal of under 18’s in the reserves this year. There’s a small group playing sanfl and the rest under 18’s

I really expected that taj and Edwards would be in reserves but they’ve been in 18’s.
I’m glad that’s how it’s worked out, makes keeping track of all the kids a lot easier! Especially when they don’t record stats for the reserves this year

Who is getting regular reserves game so far this season? Off the top of my head I can think of Borlase and thats it

i want the Hawks to pick up Callow with our first and Davis with our second, putting my order in early for Christmas :D

funny thing is theres more Callow highlights in the Davis highlights as well......

the only issue is the Hawks dont need inside mids (mitchell, jom, worpel, shiels, jones, maginness and others), so maybe our second should go to some outside speed? or a top end sml/med forward? (pressure forward would be ideal) Jack Ginnivan would be my pick, he is quality.

ok, so mind changed as we have too many inside mids, Callow first, Ginnivan with Norths second and Downie afterwards, if the draft works out like that i would be a happy mofo.....

ok so cant find any highlights for Jack Ginivan, but he is quality

so just thinking out loud on what i would like the Hawks to do

First Pick - Jackson Callow - Tas 194cm 92kg? (we cant get JUH, Thilthorpe or DGB so take the next best thing imo
Second Pick - Jack Ginnivan - Bend 182cm 77kg we need quality forwards who could play mid in a pinch, this guy is a good option (other options could be Bailey Laurie or a bid on Blake Coleman, i think combine results and interviews will show which one is the better option)
Bid - match for Connor Downie - NGA East 183cm 81kg exciting outside prospect, we get these 3 players i will be a happy mofo

if one of Archie Perkins or Eddie Ford are available at our second pick they could also be an option?

seeing as im trying to figure out what the Hawks will do, i'll do a Phantom Draft to figure out what i think might happen... based on table as at 14th July 2020

Pick 1 - Adelaide - Riley Thilthorpe - 200cm 99kg - Adelaide need a homegrown win after some ordinary drafts in recent times imo
Pick 2 - Western - Bid/Jamarra Ugle-Hagan - 194cm 84kg - Sydney will try to poach JUH for a buddy replacement, but the Dogs wont allow him to be sniped, JUH will become the highest pick Academy prospect ever most likely
Pick 3 - Sydney - Denver Grainger-Barras - 195cm 78kg - even though i really like Will Phillips, theres too many high value talls to be ignored
Pick 4 - North - Will Phillips - 179cm 78kg - boosting their already strong midfield with the best midfielder in the draft pool
Pick 5 - North - Elijah Hollands - 188cm 81kg - even after his injury he would be a high value target and i expect he will go around 5
Pick 6 - Fremantle - Nathan O'Driscoll - 187cm 76kg - this could be another homegrown win for Fremantle, getting one of the best inside mids in the draft
Pick 7 - Hawthorn - Jackson Callow - 194cm 96kg - we need talls and i really like the versatility and strong hands of Callow
Pick 8 - Collingwood - Bid/Reef McInnes - 192cm 84kg - Geelong will try and snipe a very talented tall mid/med forw, but Collingwood will match
Pick 9 - Geelong - Tanner Bruhn - 182cm 75kg - Geelong need a replacement for Ablett and Selwood soon and this will be 1 piece to do that in the near future
Pick 10 - Sydney - Bid/Breaden Campbell - 181cm 72kg - outside player with good athleticism, goal kicking and general kicking skills, Sydney will match
Pick 11 - Adelaide - Nikolas Cox - 199cm 82kg - Adelaide stock up on talls, would be a smart play, Cox could become a high value tall when he fills out a bit
Pick 12 - Gold Coast - Archie Perkins - 186cm 77kg - player who could develop into a medium forw or midfield
Pick 13 - Adelaide - Bid/Luke Edwards - 187cm 81kg - really liked his carnival last year, has been playing sanfl u18's so far this year, Adelaide should match
Pick 14 - Geelong - Oliver Henry - 187cm 77kg - highly talented marking medium def/forw, joining his brother at the cats
Pick 15 - Carlton - Eddie Ford - 186cm 80kg - strong contested half forward, was good in the trial for VM, was good in the futures game on GF day, solid for Jets
Pick 16 - St Kilda - Logan McDonald - 196cm 85kg - good leading forward for WA in the carnival last year, is behind a few other talls imo, but still a decent pick at this stage
Pick 17 - Richmond - Finlay Macrae - 184cm 75kg - midfield for Oakleigh, brother of WB Macrae
Pick 18 - Brisbane - Bid/Blake Coleman - 180cm 78kg - i predict dodoro will try and snipe Coleman but Brisbane match a bit earlier than expected
Pick 19 - Essendon - Zac Dumesny - 187cm 79kg - Zac seemed like an ok talent last year, but its his sanfl form that might put him up the rankings in 2020
Pick 20 - Geelong - Kaine Baldwin - 193cm 92kg - at this point they have Bruhn and Henry, they can afford to gamble with Baldwin and his knee injuries
Pick 21 - Hawthorn - Jack Ginnivan - 182cm 77kg - at this stage were looking for outside players or sml/med forws and i think Ginnivan will be a good option, we could also look at Bailey Laurie, theres a few inside mids still available, but we dont need them unfortunately
Pick 22 - Fremantle - Bid/Brandon Walker - 184cm 75kg - half back attracting a bid early 2nd round
Pick 23 - Brisbane - Zane Trew - 187cm 78kg - composed inside mid from WA
Pick 24 - Port Adel - Sam Berry - 181cm 81kg - tough inside mid from country victoria
Pick 25 - Melbourne - Oliver Davis - 180cm 69kg - tough inside mid from Tassie with a good kick on him

On JUH, he'd only be equal highest picked if bid at Pick 2. Heeney was bid on at Pick 2, just in the old system which allowed Sydney to match with Pick 18.

Fremantle have Brayshaw, Cerra, Serong and Valente as emerging inside mids. I really like O'Driscoll, but I wonder if a trade of our first can get us Trew and McDonald (for example) may be better value.

If there is the potential for a bid on Walker before our second pick I would hope we are looking to make a move there as well, such as our first and second for a pair of mid first round.

Pick 25 - Melbourne - Oliver Davis - 180cm 69kg - tough inside mid from Tassie with a good kick on him
WOW, can't see the bid coming in that early for Luke Edwards, not on this year's form in the SANFL U18's with his already well developed body and game etc I'm left wanting so far by his performances.

seeing as im trying to figure out what the Hawks will do, i'll do a Phantom Draft to figure out what i think might happen... based on table as at 14th July 2020

Id be happy with the first two picks for sure but Im not that familiar with Baldwin apart from what I have seen written. What type of player is he?
How good is Baldwin to gamble an R1 on... 193cm CHF ? I guess it is p20.. is he the type that could replace Hawkns in a couple of years time, how would he compare to other KPF who have been drafted in the last couple of years...

I have compared him to Jack Riewoldt at the tigers, he was a likely top 10 pick before his 2nd knee reco, I think if he stays healthy could be a big win.

I tend to agree. I'm not as high on Edwards but I think that's because I've been underwhelmed with what I've seen this year. I was really hoping that he'd solidify a spot in the reserves and play most of his year there but to have only played U18's footy so far this year I've found a bit disappointing. Admittedly Glenelg have a pretty strong senior footy program at the moment and that Glenelg U18 side has had a number of even contributors each week which has probably made it more difficult to stand out.

I don't have him in my top 25 at the moment but he's got a nice blend of size, skill and flexibility that show it's probably more form than lack of ability.

He just lacks any real outstanding trait for me( his weapon). I still think he’ll be a solid 100 game player though.

A fit Jack Riewo was around P8 back in his draft year ... so that aligns with your point.

2 knees is a bit of a worry though , after Menzel I think that would be a serious tenterhooks type situation. 1 knee ..but 2 ? Id hope we are very very sure, so many players seem to do knees because they have a preponderance for the injury.

I think Callow is likely to be one of the bargains of the draft.

Will get the Tasmanian discount applied, but he has Cale Hooker sort of potential imo.

Anyone getting him from 15-30 is getting a bargain imo.

Could see him becoming a genuinely dominant CHB with those hands, despite playing predominantly forward at the moment.

Seen his highlights and is very impressive for a bottom age player.
Would love North to pick him somehow.

Its hard for me with little to no vision of SA WA kids this year and not having a carnival also doesn't help, so I'm relying on others a bit to rank them, so here goes the players I think are elite, top tier and potentially AFL Standard.

Elite - JUH, Phillips, Thilthorpe, Hollands, DGB

Top Tier - Campbell, McInnes, Bruhn, O'Driscoll, Perkins, Henry, Callow, McDonald, Macrae, Ford, Cox, Edwards, Trew, Davies, Dumesny

Potentially AFL Standard - Baldwin (2 knee recos), Berry, Davis, Ginnivan, Lazzaro, Downie, Laurie, B.Coleman, Carrol, B.Walker, Gulden, Newchurch, Poulter, Collins, Western, Brand, Chapman, Reid, L.Jones, Jefferies, Sinderberry, Lake, Michael, Gay, Stevens, Panuccio, Winder

Just analysing the list I made, makes me think this could be a weaker draft than the previous 3 drafts have been, I can only find a top group of 20-25, I'm unsure if it's weak because of the lack of Victorians or because we have not had a chance to see much competitive football from Victoria?, a normal year would be 30-35 and a strong year like the super draft it was more like 40-45, 1 thing I noticed on reflection was I had only 19 Victorians in the 47 man list, which is much lower than the normal 55% Victorian representation in most drafts and I think this reason might be why the top group is lower than normal years.

I will make a list of some Victorian talent I believe have a chance of being drafted here just to put some names out there.

Harry Sharp - 180 70 GWV
Henry Walsh - 201 84 Geel
Lochlan Jenkins - 177 76 Oak
Connor Stone - 186 78 Oak
Charlie Byrne - 182 78 Murr/NSW
Jackson Cardillo - 185 77 Calder
Ryan Angwin - 181 62 Gipps
Josh Clarke - 181 65 East
Cody Raak - 191 77 West
Mace Cousins - 177 66 West
Will Bravo - 180 73 Dand
Daniel Bourke - 195 80 Gipps
Campbell Edwardes - 195 80 Calder
Noah Gadsby - 185 72 Geel
Jake Bowey - 173 65 Sand

There are some others I'm sure would have impressed if this season went ahead as schedule, but im a bit disappointed in the lack of high end talent from Victoria and it really does make sense why the u16 carnival from this age group was so poor from a Vic perspective imo.

Harry Sharp has grown a bit according to ADC website. Now 184cm.

Surprised you haven’t mentioned Max Heath after Matt Rendell’s pump up, and the subsequent discussion about him.
