Draft Expert Davo-27's 2023 Draft Thread

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Which headlines are you talking about?

The one from earlier, where Sam McClure was quoted as saying Reid "Essentially doesn't want to go to WCE", or the one later (Footy Classified) where McClure backtracked hard saying he hasn't heard this directly, Reid was upset, Reid would be more than happy to go to WCE, etc?
Don't go letting facts get in the way of a good rant now. Spoilsport.

Been asked before mate but who are the best kickers in this draft? I don't think we take more than two selections so around 10 and around 25 give or take a few spots
As for quality kicking it's not my forte(if they are OK at that skill, then I check off that box, I don't put a lot of time into if they are elite at it) I don't focus on that aspect as much as how a player wins the ball, which I think is a better indicator of success, but I was impressed with a few kicks from defence from Harry Demattia late in the champs, was brave enough to kick into the middle of the ground with long accurate kicks to team mates in space, it was the first time i noticed that someone did that multiple times this year at the champs.

Is Nick Watson as good a pressure forward as he is doing the mercurial stuff? asking for a friend
The closest comparison I can think of is Papley in the way he plays, he has all the tools like speed/tackling ect, but I wouldn't call him great at the defensive side of his game, he seems to do ok defensively in the forward line.

Re-watched the 1st 6 champs games, Sanders has been exceptional, also he still has his pace, deceptively quick and gets around the field, Moir was better than I thought, but I still am not liking him for the 1st round, Read is a special talent, I think the Allies possibly have 6 pushing for top 10 spots, Walters, Rogers, Read, McKercher, Sanders, O'Sullivan, I've never seen this before from the Allies, a very unique year, SA and WA were disappointing this year, the 2 Vic teams were decent without being great.

When I'm done with all 10, I'll do an update for August, then I plan to watch most of the u16s and maybe check out a game or 2 of the u15s if I can find the games.

The top 10 this year seems to be firming imo (all 10 of these guys have little to no faults in their games imo, which sets them apart from the rest, from my pov)

Harley Reid
Jed Walter - GCS
Colby McKercher
Ryley Sanders
Dan Curtin
Nick Watson
Ethan Read - GCS
Zane Duursma
Jake Rogers - GCS
Connor O'Sullivan

Then guys just outside the top 10 imo

Nate Caddy
Harry Demattia
Darcy Wilson
Mitch Edwards
Jack Delean
Koltyn Tholstrup

What about Ollie Murphy Davo-27? thought he might be a good fit if we had an early teens pick or he slides and we could trade back in

I'm unsure if he is another McAsey, DGB, Mac Andrew, Zach Reid or not?, good interceptor, but can he cover the ground?, for me he is a talent and tall, but a bit of a risk and using a top 15 pick on a risk is not the smartest move imo, now post pick 15/16 he comes into the conversation as a possible KPP Talent, I do like him as a player, I just don't like him or most other prospects inside the top 15/16... I think the names I mentioned are the best, but the finals series could change my mind, but for now I like these guys.

Would be on the edge on draft night 2 after McCabe bid match to hope we trade in for pick 25 and nab Archer Reid!

Archer Reid has the height ect, but he has been so inconsistent over the 2 years I can't have him in my top 20, on draft night a club could reach, but that's their call.

It was a very interesting champs, a lot of guys from last year not handling the pressure unfortunately.

He looked good to me In the last game of the champs he was taking 1 brand which is a great sign at that age. He also kicked a few for Gippsland last week right? Happy to take a punt on a KP whose shown that much this early.

Because imo the rankings of some of these players and the omissions of others I can’t take this ranking seriously. Just my opinion. Going by the combine invites gives good indication of what clubs are thinking.

This isn’t the ‘What clubs are thinking’ thread. Davo has shared his own opinion from the work and research he has personally put in.

Doesn’t mean I have to agree with it. TBH I generally like Davos opinion but on this occasion I can’t agree. It’s ok, after all it’s a forum where people can share their thoughts. Unless Davo is really Kim Jong Un 🤣

So Davo should be a sheep and follow what everyone else is doing? how boring would that be? might as well wait for Cal Twomeys late mail before the draft and have no one post their lists

No one is questioning your right to disagree it’s just the reaction to an expert draft watchers opinion felt OTT. Ultimately opinions are like assholes, most of them find their way to bigfooty eventually! 😀
