GCS will clean up this draft period... They'll have a formidable list in a couple of years.
Yea Gold Coast have a good few years coming up

2023 - Jake Rogers, Jed Walter and Ethan Read
2024 - Caleb Nancarrow and Leonardo Lombard
2025 - Zeke Uwland and Jai Murray (there's a couple others who are getting opportunity young, that I have not seen as much yet)

Their Academy is rich with draftable talent atm, take note of this talent, this year they might even have 3 first rounders, next year they have 2 more who could go top 30 and Uwland looks likely top 30 as well, not as sure on Murray yet, but he has shown a bit in a couple games, but has had some quiet games, he has some talent though, so we'll see how he develops...

Beau Addinsall is the other 2025 kid who's been doing well.

I'm pretty sure they also have another U16 kid who debut at QAFL senior level a few weeks ago and was named BOG in his first or second game.

And all this is good for footy, right?

In a traditional Rugby League state any win for the AFL is great, not to mention the time, resources and $'s poured into the academies.

Suns absolutely deserve to be getting 1st crack at these kids, as do the Lions when it's their players being spoken of.

After all Swans have benefited from it for years and so did the Giants until their 'provinces' were slightly altered. Even so, both those teams are still producing very draftable kids.

Giants and Suns in particular, a long way from being eligible for FS prospects, unlike all the established teams.

To be fair we've been saying that for 10+ years now.

The father son argument is garbabge. How many clubs have landed 3 top 10 father sons in one draft. The suns might get 3 top ten academy kids

Keep both just remove the discount make clubs pay market value the priority access is advantage enough.

I think the discount in Academies should only be available to clubs in bottom 4 or 6 for 2 consecutive seasons.

No discount for FS, but for bottom clubs the cut off rule should be 80 games. That is a better equalisation strategy.

He was one I was thinking about, they had 4-5 from 2025 in their u18s, so they are getting opportunity young.

Lions probably should have as well.

I don't like us playing so many overagers, particularly kids who aren't close to being draftable.

I understand why they do it, lack of quality and depth in the academy, but it didn't really change any of the results. From what I heard (reportedly from both qld academies), there was a fair bit of dissatisfaction about the teams flying down the morning of matches, how early kids had to be up to catch flights down, etc.

Catching up on the Vic Trials footy, a few talls standing out at the state level, Ollie Murphy for VM, Wil Dawson and Lachlan Smith for VC, Archer Reid was disappointing, im not liking that he disappears when things don't go his way... Morris playing defence was an odd decision when VM struggled converting opportunities to goals.

VM 5.16 - 46 lost to VC 12.9 - 81 (35 point win)

VM Best: Enders(10) 1gl, Dattoli(9) 1gl, Murphy(8), Docking(7), Morris, Kako, O'Leary, K.Brown, Sruk, J.Smith, Penny(6)

Others: Lord(5), Harrop(5), Z.Johnson(4), Windsor(3), Moloney(3), Naim(3), Croft(3) 2gls, Elliot(3) 1gl, Tucker (2), Riley(2), Eyre(2), McLean(1), Tovey(1)

-‐--------‐---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VC Best: James(8), D.Wilson(7) 3gls, Anastasopoulos(7) 1gl, Hastie(7), Poole(7) 1gl, Lalor(6), Langford(6), Dawson(5) 3gls, L.Smith(5), Hynes(5) 1gl, Stevens(5)

Others: Gordon(4) 1gl, Toledo(4), Byrne(4), Lindsay(3), Hanily(3), A.Reid(3), Burke(3), Grant(3) 2gls, Frangalas(2), Hewitt(2), Pierce(1), Noble(1), Penry(0)

I will probably watch the 2nd trial game tomorrow

Murphy and Dawson read like good prospects for what we are building. Keen to see where you have them ranked in your next list.

Murphy improved his draft stocks a lot from that performance, I want to see if he can follow it up in the champs, Dawson played forward well, didn't notice him as a ruck for Gipps?, but his forward craft and contested marking as well as having decent pace on the lead are traits AFL Clubs will be monitoring, again a player that improves playing his more suited position to his style of play.

Considering the slippage that occurs with aligned players... how likely do you feel that GC really have 3 R1 kids this year?

For the moment this trend is all good. Its taken a long time but things are looking up at GC. Now the AFL need to hold hard.. and do not wither under pressure that willcome. It will take a decade of success to burrow their ways into the qld mindset (imo)

What a great 1st quarter from Jake Rogers and Jed Walter for the ALLIES against SA to start the champs off

Anyway I'll add my ratings to the Vic Trials, this game seemed lower quality tbh
