Correct JMac. The Earth isn't round.

It is an oblate spheroid - a sphere compacted at its poles and swollen at the equator. Bit like Nathan Freeman's hammies.

Actually incorrect Wally. The earth is spheroid as you say but by definition all spheroids are round. Whether or not an object or shape is "perfectly round" is not a defining factor in correctly describing an object as being round. It's all about the curves. The earth is in fact round as Kappa first suggested. Clever fellow that Kappa.

Fine late night parry Doodles.:thumbsu: But I stated oblate spheroid, not your garden variety spheroid, and fear you and Kappa, if he ever shows up, face Isaac Newton, NASA, saintly, and the National Geodetic Survey in the octagon.

Yes, physicists argue the Earth is round when combatting the gloaming superstitions of Flat Earthers. Neither you nor Kappa are Flat Earthers. In polite scientific company the conversation becomes more nuanced, ellipsoid more accurate than spheroid. The Earth is fatter at the equator than the poles by over 21,000 metres (convert that to 50m penalties). Furthermore, the Earth's shape is ever-changing - tidal in the short-term, tectonic in the long-term.

IF Collingwood supporters are to overcome their stereotype of unthinking, face-tattooed inmates (like 2 of my cousins) we can do better than banalities like the Earth is round. It is ellipsoidal. (cue for 35Daicos to nail me with something from his library)

This has nothing at all to do with the shape of the earth, but take a look at St Kilda's current injury list:-
St Kilda
Player - Injury - Estimated Return
No injuries

No injuries! We took Davoren from the Saints, I don't even know who their current fitness guru is, but can't we just pinch him and never have to worry about being without star players again?!

Freeman doesn't even exist anymore. Not good signs.

Someone or something (the specialist in Germany?), appears to have fixed Reid's ongoing quad/leg issues. Absolutely no sign of him favouring the leg or not going 100%. Thumbs up to the club for appearing to have finally sorted it.

It was the ballet trainer.

And a fine riposte from you too Wal.:thumbsu: You are correct that perhaps Mr Kappa should provide a more specified quantum of roundness when discussing our beloved planet. Mr Kappa is often fast and loose with his generalizations and overly simplistic categorizations and this is but the latest example. To avoid further conflict on the board I would suggest that the term "roundish" be used in future if you are in agreeance.

Yep. Saints had waaaay more injuries under Davoren. In all honesty, it's not about where we finish on the ladder, he needs to go. Our fitness/conditioning and injury profile under his watch have been nothing short of atrocious.

Forget the injuries and assume they are bad luck.

The big question is our fitness up to scratch? Outside his first year the last 2 years we have fallen flat in the 2nd half of the year. Also this year from the word go we have looked well off even the bottom 8 sides in fitness. Is this because of a lot young players or is this because of Davoren.
Maybe the program has changed to reach peak fitness toward the latter part of the season? Given our recent history of falling away in the second half, maybe the off-season program has been changed. Slow start and strong finish.

Of course, Doodles, you again show your wisdom.

Demonalke has refocussed me. StKilda has disappeared Nathan Freeman like an unfortunate in the Argentinian Dirty War.

I've been thinking this to myself since about round 3 or 4 when we started showing signs of being average.

I wouldn't be surprised if we were putting ourselves through an extra "intense training block," i.e. practically extending the preseason.

It would explain why we've looked so flat the first 7 rounds...

It has been said many times, but why can the blamers not comprehend that injuries, like our rash of ACL's or Swan's broken foot have nothing to do with the fitness staff? Rolled ankles happen in games despite fitness of any level. We actually saw them happen on TV. Williams broken toe, Witts' split webbing. They are all injuries sustained in play or training through impact or accident. The soft tissue men, Beams and Freeman are still in trouble outside our system. In Obewan's immortal words "nothing to see here."
So are our early season woes due to lack of fitness? The Geelong game says no. The players out and a lack of intensity from those on the field would seem to ber the causes. I think we over rated ourselves as the season started, got a few nasty injuries, and may and I emphasise may, be now recovering. Let's wait and see if there is a problem to be solved before we look for a scapegoat. I see no evidence that there is a problem.

throw some dosh at burgo from the power get him at the pies

Why not, the bloke looks younger now than he did 30 years ago. Could do wonders for our conditioning

I am more concerned about the direction of the program.

We lack bulk, all our players are being turned into lean running types, we need some pigs who smash the packs and extract the ball or split it in marking contests. I reckon since they started taking the weight off Cloke he has gone backwards, to name one.
