apparently the eagles were the only team to contact him...and that was before the knee and after the knee injury apparently you guys were the only ones to show interest...IIRC one of his mates got on here and said something along those lines...
inside player is a doggies supporter.
so are you saying the doggies were the only team to contact him apart from the eagles?

Mark If you are suggesting we as supporters are part of the reason the club has only won 1 flag in the last 50 years than you are giving all of us and yourself way too much credit.
The members vote for the board. If the members are inactive the board can be complacent. I have seen this at Collingwood. I bet even Eddie will tell you about. Do you know what he took over? It wasn’t just a club with a poor list. I said to myself – never again. I wish every Collingwood member took an active interest in the club, went to the AGM and of they had a view had their say. Good or bad I don’t care. We are a membership based club. Unfortunately not all our board in Eddie’s time has been elected. Casual vacancies and all…

Seriously Mark, why dont you stand? You've said someone you know was heavied. What exactly do you mean by heavied? Surely they didnt have someone go around to their house with a baseball bat. I know a few board members from other clubs and they don't strike me as that desperate.

Your point has been made Mark and there is really not point in me continuing this debate. I love my footy but I obviously don't take it quite as seriously as you do. Lets just agree to disagree.

On Dawes thought id do a bit of research. Look up his stats in the Tac and they looked bloody impressive. Only played 6 or 7 games so he must have had a few other injuries. Was named in the best(most games best 2 or 3) in all bar the last game in which he did his knee and his stats in that game looked good to. Took a stack of marks and amost half were contested from what i could see. In the game against WA he was also very impressive but was in hawkins(bloody hell the cats are lucky)shadow a little.

Not suggesting this means anything because I don't want to upset people by making this sound like typical Collingwood misguided hope. Just thought some of you out there might be interested to know the kid obviously has alot of ability judging on his 18s performances

nothing wrong with a touch of misguided hope ant.

I was hoping we would take him with a late pick, was surprised he went round 3 but Collingwood had to use a pick a round earlier than they thought he might go... so if they thought someone would take him early with a fourth round pick they had to use their third to get in before them.

If he comes good it will be a great move, if it doesn't it is a bit of a negative given the quality of players still available around that pick. It was an amazing draft, still a lot of good young talent available for the PSD including AA championship players.

Maybe he'll make a great story in a few years, but as a physiotherapist I can tell you nothing is certain, whether Julian Feller did the reco or anyone other than God himself.

Having said that, every player taken in the draft is an unknown quantity, so it becomes a matter of gambling with a pick if you are prepared to do so. I would prefer we'd gambled with #44 than #28, and taken a midfielder or ruckman at #28, but the recruiting department know more than me.

no idea...all im saying is there must have been some inside info on him to say that clubs were keen OR he is that good OR the pies have f*cked up.

IMO... worth the risk--> yes... pick 28?---> no

in your opinion was tim walsh at pick 4 or tom williams at pick 6 worth it.i know they weren't injured when drafted but what have you done for me lately on those 2 . not to mention tom davison

Yes it does. It is a different risk at 8 v 28 v 58 because of the alternatives you could have taken.

I agree with you, I was really being semantic about what he said.

He said he was worth the risk. If he succeeds, then he was worth the risk, and picking him at 28 is justified. If he fails, he fails, and picking him at 60 somnething would be unjustified.

Personally I would have let him slip through to the third round and tried and pick him up there. Then we could have taken a ruckman at 28, and Goldsack at 70 something, and passed on the PSD.

Fair enough. Agree with all of that. Let’s hope we spend the next decade discussing the great Hine draft steals of the mid 00s.

mayb...i just wonder if there were other clubs after them that also thought they were worth risking 1st round picks.

i dont think drafting an injured bloke in the 1st round is justified... 3rd round i think its worth a punt. as id say most picks after 4th rnd are more or less experiments and punts on who is going to cut it....i.e. jimmy hird.
