Before the Lasik surgery and broken thumb he looked about to explode to the next level.. you could easily have a bargain on your hands

He'll never klunk marks like Cloke but he has the tank of a midfielder and he's smart.. see his handball lying on the ground to Cloke in the dying minutes of the drawn Grand Final to save the flag.. not bad for a kid in his first full season, he has a lot of development in him yet

Regarding Dawes, I really don't want him to go but seems the writing is on the wall for whatever reason. I think he has a lot more to give then what we saw of him this year as he was constantly played out of position and had more pressure with Cloke not performing. I think 20 is about right but I think we might chase Martin also.

Could be an exchange of draft picks involved with a player but I think Dawes will come out firing next year with a point to prove which does worry me, he seems to be that sort of bloke.

Dawes and pick 39 for Pick 20 and Martin....really don't know how this will pan out but Dawes is proven and can quite easily return to some good form.

I think this trade might even be the becoming of Jack Watts next season.

My issue is that when I see him play, I see Brad Miller. I've been watching him since the VFL as well. Happy to be wrong, and there is no doubt the fella's got the endeavour but...well you know, his skills.
 
Why not swap Martin for Dawes? Assuming Martin wants out or is not in the plans, seems a fair swap.
 
Personally I think our moloney compensation (hopefully 2nd rounder) + stef Martin would be fair for both parties.Thoughts? The issue is dawes is contracted at could just stay at collingwood if the pies dont think the trade is in their favour.

FWIW, I'd rather keep Dawes because if he regains his fitness after niggling injuries and his form from 2010, you have got a player on your hands. On form, Pick 20 may seem a lot, but given his ability, it is certainly more than fair. I am genuinely gutted he's leaving, think he'll be good for you.

Agreed. If Wellingham is worth Pick 17 think 20 is on the money for (an in form) Dawes.

Yeah but the bottom line is we still need to offer Clarke some protection. One bad year, but Dawes will be a great fit for the Dees and will bring more than just scoreboard pressure!
