Wish u guys all the best ... just hope all the media BS is just that .... for me pick 20 is too high but probably what will need to be done .... $500k a season ... pretty sure u guys are not that crazy!

Just hope ur trading dept doesn't blink first really think Collingwood need to free up some cap space.

My opinion is at current output he is worth pick 30 and $300k a season max
At his best pick 20 and maybe 350-400k a season.

It's really just whether u believe he can recapture his form or not.

I hope he does for u guys .... it would be nice to see a little luck falling the Demons way ... it's been a tough couple of seasons.

Just please try to screw the filth rather than urselves for the whole of the competitions benefit!

No one is saying that Martin is a better player than Dawes. Just that he's valuable and we shouldn't give him up for peanuts. Pick 20+Martin would be way over what Dawes is worth.

Don't make me go through the thread again, even your mod was saying Martin is better

So just reading through this thread the opinion seems to be that Stefan Martin is the better player than Chris Dawes..

So I have just one question.. if you are willing to pay Dawes $500,000..

What the hell is Martin on? o_O

The Herald Sun understands the Collingwood key forward will almost double his pay at any new club in an enormous sweetener to being squeezed out by arriving West Coast Eagle Quentin Lynch.
Industry sources yesterday confirmed Melbourne, Dawes' club of choice, is prepared to pay him in the region of $500,000 a season.

Yes by all means come in and post Herald sun articles as fact. Just like we were paying 900k a year to Mitch Clark last year.

Yep people were definitely saying Martin is better than Dawes. Others were saying that Martin is the most overrated player on this board.

All for going after Dawes, but won't be devestated if the Dees miss out.

No issue with Pick 20 of $500,000 being the asking price. Not sure why so much is made about the money. Surely the only two reasons that the price of a contract can be of concern are (a) hurting a club's financial flexibility over the term of that deal and (b) not convinced about this one, but paying someone so far over their perceived worth that it breeds resentment among the other players.

I doubt any deal that is struck with Dawes will have any impact on the Dees flexibility over the next 3 or 4 years. Secondly, even if you believed that 'outrageous' contracts breed resentment, I don't think that 500k, given that everyone knows you pay overs for KP players (and generally a premium to get a player to move from another club) would get may noses out of joint in what's a borderline TAC Cup aged dressing room.

Because the Herald-Sun has never been wrong before?

Other clubs offered him 500 a year ago when we signed him.. Bulldogs are offering half a mill too so it isn't that

He's definitely being offered around 500

so I repeat..

WTF are you paying Martin? o_O

LOL, the HeraldSun is full of shit. These are the same morons who claimed we were paying Clark 850k per year over 5 years, when it was later confirmed to be 500k over 3 years.

Also to the Collingwood geniuses who claimed that you could trade Dawes to GWS for pick 13, you do realise because Dawes is in contract he would have to agree to the move? And he has already refused to move interstate? It's the same reason why we don't have Brad Sewell on our list right now, thanks to Ryan Ferguson refusing to be traded to Hawthorn because he was still under contract.

So i repeat...Your only source is the Herald Sun. You say the WB offered him 500k with absolutely no source using last year as an example when he was uncontracted. Last year has nothing to do with this year. Oh and Stef is a better footballer than Dawes, thanks troll.

You contradicted yourself **** wit.

'Other clubs offered him $500k last year', guess what the key words are?

'Last Year'

Yeah blah blah, he's been offered that amount a year ago by other clubs and by the the Bulldogs this year

Yeah last year and the Bulldogs and Melbourne this year.. have no idea why you would get so upset you'd resort to infantile name calling, how do you go when someone spills your beer :D

Stop trying to convince yourself you'll get some miracle deal for Dawes - won't happen.

I guarantee you that Melbourne is not offering Dawes the same amount we are paying Clark. He would be offered 400k per year absolute maximum. Maybe WB offered him $500k?
They are saying both of you which makes sense, doubtful you'd be 100K apart going for the same player

I have no issue with the money. In the end we have to pay 95% of the salary cap. After this year I don't think half the players on our list deserved standard rate. Give it to a player we're trying to lure over, frontload the crap out of it and raise the salaries of other players when they deserve it.

But you're saying this with absolute no credible source or validity! How can you possible come in saying it's a fact that we've offered someone x amount of money? Do you work for Melbourne? Are you secretly Chris Dawes agent? I mean i know for you and your community housing buddies the Herald Sun must seem very credible with all it's big words. But here on the Melb board the only thing the Herald Sun is good for is lighting fires up in our ski lodges.

But the problem the dees face is that dawes is a contracted player, and you may have to pay over the odds to him.But there are not many kpp around.
Pretty much why we're offering Pick 20. Worth Pick 40 in a draft.

OK to answer the question... no, we don't know what Martin is on. Probably less than Dawes.

Now if you have nothing else constructive to add, Bangonballsup, kindly return (or maybe it will be your first time there??) to the Collingwood board.
