Haha, this is great, well done dees! .. I like how he is being referred to as 'dawesy' already, when he was just 'Dawes' before trade.

Also, we now have 2 players resembling gorillas, jamar and Dawes ... This is a good thing

Will we see 58 + petterd go for Pedersen? I don't feel 58 is enough, I do like Ricky, but his window to fit in here somewhere is gradually vanishing with this massive forward lineup change up and not being in neelds favour

Happy to land the deal. I trust that Neeld and co. know what they are getting with Dawes, having seen him first hand. We've gone from having a forward line with the likes of Miller, Newton and Bate to having Clark and Dawes, which is a massive improvement.

For the record, the last ten pick 20's in the draft:

Hayden Crozier (Frem)
Jayden Pitt (Frem)
Nathan Fyfe (Frem)
Tom Swift (WCE)
Tony Notte (WCE)
Tom Hislop (Ess)
Paul Bower (Carl)
Dean Polo (Rich)
Sam Butler (WCE)
Will Minson (Bull)

Fyfe, gun. Minson, solid. Butler, battler. Polo/Bower/Hislop/Notte, duds. Swift, retired. Pitt/Crozier, unproven.

So have a think about it, is pick 20 really paying overs?

Surely the Roos won't throw Pedersen away for Pick 58? I know it's not the thread for it but I can't see that one happening.

The rumour is that Pedo has fallen out with the North playing group as well as Brad Scott.
He will come cheap.

Has all the skills, just needs a new environment to bring out his potential.

Congrats guys. While Dawes had an ordinary year, he is far from a dud and has a lot of upside. I like how aggressively Neeld and co are approaching the off season. They have spent a year watching carefully who needs to go and what they need to bring in. You already have a young list and are now adding some structure and experience. :thumbsu:

For us to get anyone at 20 who has 'runs on the board' is a bonus.. Our drafting has never been a strength!

All hail Neeld, and his glorious new forwardline!
Guy's a 24yo KPF (who, just quietly, weighs 13kg more than Jack) who our coach has gone after hard two years running. Definitely sees something there.
And he wants to come to us to improve himself and us.
And he'll bring invaluable structure and options to our forward line, regardless of his individual performance.
And he's a Brighton Grammar, now Law student. I like that at the MFC, especially given the dearth of hyphenated surnames around atm #georgehorlinsmith2013 :p

So basically for the price of Tom Scully, we have ended up with Jesse Hogan, Dom Barry and Chris Dawes.
They're all collectively on about half what the little runt and fat Phil are on at GWS too.

The Brighton boy finally made it home. Seriously though we will miss him. He is a quality individual and will serve your club well. Good luck big fella.

Look at other players taken in picks 21-30. Zaharakis. Hannebery. Beams. Scott Selwood. Darling. Mitch Duncan. Drafting is an imperfect process, but right now i'd prefer using pick 20 to draft and 'unknown' than to use it on Dawes who I just don't rate that highly. I'm glad it seems a lot of others are happy. Happy supporters are fine with me :thumbsu:

Would be happy if there was some other dead wood (Petterd? etc) that we could pass off in a trade to get a pick somewhere in the 25-35 region.

Think this is a great trade for everyone, Chris gets to play the role he wants, Pies received very handsome compensation for him, and the Dees get a big body up forward to take the heat off of Mitch Clark! Think everyone would be happy with this, hope Chris has a great season next year (except on Queen's Birthday) and has a long career at the Dees.

I think it's a win win for both clubs. But this analysis is seriously flawed - think of all the great players that have been snapped up from picks 20 to say 40 over the past 10 years. Dayne Beams was picked up with pick 29 - just won Colingwood B&F and All Australian honours and Zaharakis from Essendon pick 23 won a B&F last year.

It's how you use the pick that counts

What I also love is how much Dawes slipped down in the rankings after just 1 bad year (and with an injury too). If this was two years ago there's no chance in hell he would have gone for pick 20. The guy is young and could become anything.

Pick 20 is a 1st rounder, that is a big layout for a player that was pretty ordinary last year, now the Dees did have some spare picks so why not go for it, but pick 20 is a fairly high price to pay for a key forward that averaged 12 disposals and .7 goals a game.

Still not sure what type of structure the Demons are building, for me you lacked the players to deliver it to the forwards this year not sure why there hasn't been more work in this area?

Great news! Now we will have 2 big guys who will take the 2 best tall defenders of the opposition every week, and you never know Watts may still get to play the developing 3rd tall forward role after all, it's not too late yet!

A question we've all asked ourselves, mate.

I think it's due to the fact that big KPP don't come along very often and we had to pounce this year or be left with nothing to help Clark.

Pick 4 will no doubt be left for a gun mid (if GWS don't grab them all first:p)
