Hilarious post by BigSexc a few pages back, I enjoyed it.
To those who say we paid overs, SO WHAT?
1. The draft is not guaranteed to get us a quality player at pick 20.
2. He was the best key forward on the market, a massive need for us.
3. The Bulldogs were offering that much too, we had to do better to get our man.
4. and most importantly, IT'S A SELLER'S MARKET. Such is life under the new Free Agency system. Clubs will go after the players they want more aggressively than ever before. Buyers will have to pay over the odds for players. Get used to it.
Agree. There are no guarantees in the draft at any pick however we have not had a first round pick for some time. We now have three of them and one of the most respected recruiters in the competition. I am confident that we will make the right selections. There are also no guarantees that Dawes will find the form you need over the next four years.

I'm more confident you guys would make the right selections than we would (at pick 20)
I'm more confident we'll turn Dawes around that picking up a gem with 20
Don't be silly. None of our players are good enough to get a run at collingwood this year : )To be fair too, Dawes is probably one of about maybe 5 Melbourne players that would get regular games at Collingwood based on 2012 form. So he definitely improves the list. Particularly if he can get back to his best.

Over half our team would.
I'm not normally one for conspiracy theories, but I've been thinking.....did we engineer this trade from a mile back?
Rumours we were after Cloke at a high price, pushing up his contract terms at Collingwood.
Rumours we were after Lynch, when Harrington's actually said he was never a target, and knowing he was going to Collingwood, driving his price up.
Doing this, knowing that we may shake Dawes loose.
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a stretch and Collingwood obviously didn't have grand plans for Dawes next year, but just interesting we seemed to be going after Collingwoods tall targets
Not all at once.
People who are mentioning our FD not being able to pick a gem at 20 - I totally agree, and I don't think the club has any intentions of making any major selections this year. Our recruiting is headed up by Viney, who is not a pro in this area, and I believe he is only there for the year until we hire someone who is far more suited to the role. Viney was simply there to fill the role, and I reckon the club didn't mind as we had no real intention of making major selections that we would need to scout for. Keep a high pick, get rid of much of the rest and making take a smokey or an upgrade in the lower rounds.
For that reason I think Pick 20 is more than fair as we never had any intention of using it, or having the people in place to use it properly... this year anyway. They wouldn't be unprofessional about it but I just think they will fill this area much better than they have from next year when we may use more picks.
Pure speculation from me though...
Ummmm should have inserted Sheldon coopers sarcasm detector.
Over half our team would.
Why do people keep using the Collingwood midfield theory? He was getting Travis Cloke scraps and Cloke is a big bloke so there aren't many scraps to be had.At this stage, Collingwood have bent us over & f&@$%d us in the a*$e with this trade.
Sure we get another big kpf but he could only kick 30 goals a season at best with the pies dominant mids kicking it to him.
If the articles are correct with Dawes signing a 4yr deal for $2m, I would think it would be heavily front loaded which sees Dawes taking home between $750k-$1m next season. Even if it is $500k per season I would be expecting 40+ goals per season.
Dawes hasn't shown he can do that yet & I have concerns he can. Time will tell if Neeld & co have got this one right
Rivers, Clark, Jones, Howe, Watts, Grimes, Frawley, McDonald would all get games.
Blease, Trengove, Martin would all likely get a go as role players rotating through the forward-line.
Just out of curiosity, who would McDonald replace in our best 22? No doubt he's a player of the future, however he wouldn't be ahead of the likes of Reid, Brown, Maxwell, Toovey and O'Brien.
