Negativity? Jesus that first paragraph looks pretty bloody positive to me.

It's a realistic appraisal of what happens when you blood a lot of young players, as we've been doing and continue to do. We might be better this year - hopefully we will - but being aware that it may take time for the young guys to become seasoned consistent performers is not a treasonable offence.

Back to Vardy, it's my opinion. He's got a beautiful leap and unlike a lot of other ruckmen, he actually times it well and is good at winning hitouts. He's the same height as West, perfect height for a ruckman. Not to mention how well he covers the ground, he would give the opposition some very big headaches as very few ruckmen could hope to keep up with him. There again, having a young player who shows some ability as both a key forward and a ruckman should be a good thing. Apparently here it's negative. Interesting.

I agree with you about Vardy's potential Partridge, as I was going to say before the thread headed off elsewhere.
The first time I saw him, I immediately thought he's too good for the ruck, he's a CHF.
But the more I saw of his range of talents, the more I thought it possible that he may even be better as a ruckman, the sort of giant ruck-rover type we saw in Peter Moore, Stynes, Cox, Natanui (not that I'm not saying he is or could be as good as any of them).
He has, as you say, a beautiful leap and timing, excellent marking judgement and hands, he covers the ground better than most big blokes, he kicks long and straight, he is very agile for his size, and he is even good below his knees.
Time will tell, but I see his possibilities as either a ruck or KPF, and I suspect he won't be locked into either position til he's played a bit more.
But I'd like McIntosh out there asap, we need him to help fix our atrocious around-the-ground clearances rate.

Apparently here it's negative. Interesting.

it is given his recent history with injuries.
I agree with you, he looks a perfect modern day ruck but remember he came back after a year out and played 2 good games before tweaking the knee in the EF.

Pre season reports suggest he's fitter and bigger than ever before, just hoping he isn't pushed too soon is my only concern.
Can't blame me for feeling this way given what's happened to Menz and Varcoe the past year.

I've got a lot of faith in Vardy in the ruck, to me he looks more a natural ruckman than forward (I realise I'm the only person on the planet who thinks this). Said it earlier, a combination of West and Vardy as ruckmen is not appalling. Both are young, both have still got a lot of improvement in them, both are superb athletes, and both can kick goals up forward. If that's the situation we find ourselves in it could be a lot worse.

Also, as more of our youngsters get senior game time we could slide too - there's no guarantee we'll be top 4 or even top 8 in 2013 - but it could mean we're stronger in 2014 and 2015.

You're not the only person, I'm there with you. He was considered the best ruckman in the draft back in 09 after all. I think most are spooked by his hip injury and don't want him playing ruck any more. So he is now the logical replacement for Pods. But he could very well play ruck and rotate forward for the rest of his career too. The good thing is he will develop into a very good player regardless of which position he ultimately ends up playing.

Seeing how HMac is still in the rehab group and seems some time away before getting into full contact training, Vardy and West will be carrying the ruck for the start of the season IMO. I can't wait to see how Vardy goes after his strong preseason.

He looks more to me a natural ruckman than a forward.....is that so!....hardly seen him start a game CHF, have you?o_O

If I've read this all correctly, Simpson has had some more issues with his back of late and won't be seen for a while yet....

Fox Sport however, has got an article out on each clubs NAB prospects, and tells Cat fans to look for him to step up in HMAC's absence.

Who's out of touch, the reporters at Fox or myself?

Per Cats Twitter"

"Cats Rookies will have another reason to impress in the NAB cup with Dawson Simpson being placed on the LTI list"

Bad news for Daws but the door is open for someone....

Means a list addition, but with Burbury in a boot, Bews ( senior) out, Menz in the wings and HMAC still "2 weeks away", is it down to Bathie and Blicavs purely on need?

Of course, we have another month until the silly season is over and dont have to promote anyone right away....

Will be interesting to see how it goes....

Would rather see Daws healthy but clearly that is not going to happen...

Hartman is a senior.... we had no rookie selection this year I thought....

Probably just getting ready in case someone else goes down and they need to act in a hurry.
Absent that, Walker is the obvious choice.

yeh seems as though Walker is injured as well according to the latest Cats Insider tweets

on GFC website says Blicavs is injured along with Walker?

Didn't hear any report after last weeks games, hopefully it's nothing much.

Blicavs, Bathie, Burbury, Eardley, Sheringham, Walker. Burbury also injured at the moment.

Looks more like they are listing the Rookies then stating that Burbury is injured....

Thats the way I read it
anyway.....

Full stop after Walker means Burbury is the the only injured rookie.
