Opinion Dawson Simpson

Sounds like another mumford situation to me.
Not happy at all, Dawson has the most potential out of any ruckman on our list.
Now we'll be stuck with no rucks above 200cm
edit: fit ruckman above 200cm
Both are required and both will stay.

Injuries have curtailed Simpson over last two years at times when he is been ready to step up. He will get a chance, maybe even this week to make a statement. We have put too much into him at this stage to pass him on when he is just reaching his prime.

Hmac is on a 3 year contract and has had the first real signifcant rest in his career without trying to rush a comeback....he will be better for it and will remind people of the Gardner trade by St Kilda in 09. People seem to have written his season off already, but he will be back playing very soon and he will also get a chance to make a play for senior selection.

IN fact, we won't pass on any of our big men and none will leave as there are clearly spots available for the best combination.

You are probably correct, AS ALWAYS, but I don't like it.
HMc should have been given a 1 year deal only, we ALL knew his LTI list. Then options.
DS has a similar record, but has age on his side.
How can they both remain at Geelong beyondthis year? They are competing for #1 spot. Unless H becomes TPI, which is possible, DS will be forced to look for B&W vertical pastures.

You can't get a player like HMac for 1 year, even 2 isn't really enough

We gave him 3 because that's what it costs to get a player of that quality on the list.

We got him because if fit he gives us a legitimate chance at a flag this year. Even if he isn't fit this year he is cover for Simpson over 3 years.

Hmac at least with us gets to play as no1 on form for probably 2 years (it's likely Simpson wouldn't go past him just yet). In his 3rd year he should play backup which is a pretty good deal for an aging injury prone ruck.

You can't just have 1 no1 ruck on your list are you crazy! Can't win a flag with West as no1

A Simpson-West-Blicavs triumvirate should be our ruck division for the rest of this decade - cant see Dawson going anywhere.

where does that leave HMc?
I like your analysis

It's an extremely high risk option.
I think it likely that McIntosh was picked up not only for this year's GF, but to cover for Simpson and/or his replacement until he/they were good enough to do the job, and that's the purpose of the 3-year contract.

That is a highly WOWFUL statement if I've ever read one.
You have us in the GF.
You have HMc playing.

Weird target, given he and Witts are both dinosaurs that lack mobility.

They'd be better off chasing Bellchambers.

Anyway, Simpson OOC as is Blicavs, West Vardy and Hamish are all signed up.

Doesn't surprise me, with Blitz progressing one of the other rucks was likely to lack gametime, and he's done not much in 6 years, and our list spots are tight, so there's no guarantee of him getting another contract.

Considering all that, his lack of output and injuries (though not his fault) we would be doing well if we could actually get anything in return for him rather than nothing.

Thus if we ended up with a 2nd or 3rd rounder I wouldn't be unhappy, you can't keep everyone, especially rucks, as they can't all play.

I can't think as analytically and coolly as you do.
I really like DS's potential, his height and mobility, and he's a great bloke, everyone at Geelong loves him.
And we have nurtured him for a while, why now that he may come good would you be comfortable with him going?
He could turn out to be a real weapon.
This is different to Blakey. At least he got a flag and 99 games. DS has hardly got 10 games.

It's not me that has the team and the big bloke in the GF, it was the MC when it did its recruiting for this season.
But I agree with them. ;)

ps Depending on who goes down in the next wave of serious injuries.

Oh wow an unnamed 'reliable source'. This must be true

Is it the same top informant that Damian Barrett uses?

The "rumour" is probably born of an acceptance of past form from Collingwood. There wouldn't be a possible ruck that the pies haven't spoken to. It is looming as their major list issue and they know getting another Jolly is the way ahead. Grundy is a way off (3 years) and Witts has shown enough for them to know he is a long way off still - if ever. Simpson would be high on their list because he is young, has been developed, and is out of contract. The only question is Dawsons health. 3 or 4 games so far in the VFL (and pretty good were a couple according to our pundits on here) give everyone hope he has put the back issue behind him.

Luenberger would be very expensive and I can see the pies having to part with / losing one or two high paid mids to be able to stay under the salary cap. Thats another plus for Dawson.

This all gets back to the cats needing to see Simpson play (right now) in the ones. The Brissie, Hawks, Freo games woukld be good acid. Brissie have the class ruck. Hawks have Bailey, a good match up and Freo have Hannath (or an underdone Sandi if he is rushed back). If the MC don't play Dawson it sends a pretty big message to the lad.

Just curious, who was the last player to cross between us and the pies? Carl Steinfort comes to mind??

Steve Johnson.

Oh wai...

He has res
Why aren't we chasing Leuenburger?[/quote

I've heard from a reliable source within the Collingwood ranks that they're chasing Dawson Simpson as a fallback option if they fail in their attempts to entice Matthew Leuenberger to leave Brisbane.

I'm not sure of Simpsons contract situation, but apparently the word is that Neil Balme won't stand in his way if he decides to leave......Apparently Geelong are well aware of Collingwoods approach.

With West, McIntosh (if he ever gets fit) and Blicavs now appearing ahead of Simpson for the ruck position, this doesn't come as a surprise.

ML signed again today for Brisbane , so make what you will of that.

So what that mean if MD is correct , Simpson will have a magpie cheeping in his ear.

OK assuming etc... what do we take for him? How many picks do we want? How many are going etc , its all sort of tied up because if we are to have 3 picks , and our last pick is 50-60 , maybe a Collingwood R2 is appealling.
On the other hand , if we are elevating 2 or 3 Rookies , chasing another player , we may only want 2 picks again. That being the case R1 p16 ( for eg.) and P34. Pies R2 is P29. Means we have gained 5 places for Simpson. Almost zip

Seeing a few calls for Simpson to get a run in the seniors in the Brisbane game thread which I honestly scoffed at a bit.

Thought I'd just post to ask how he's tracking. Does his form warrant these calls? Obviously with his size he is probably dominating the hitouts but how much is he contributing around the ground?
