Sydney aren't giving up Reid for another aging backman and an 8 position slide up the draft
Its an 8 spot (estimated) pick upgrade for Sydney. Question is, what is Reid worth. He's not exactly set the world on fire recently. Patfull is a bloody good player and would be very handy especially if Malceski goes. Can play small or tall.

Can someone clear this up?

Pies have pick 8.. Most likely they will need to use this with Darcy Moore? If they trade pick 8 and beams for say pick 4 and Hanley (just an example) does that mean most likely we will only have to use our 2nd rounder (26 or so) on Darcy Moore.

Surely this would be in out interest to upgrade out pick at all costs meaning we get 2 top 10 draft picks basically (As moore is touted as a top 10)

4 and a 30 year old Patfull for Beams? nah... that's a great deal for Brisbane
The most recent trade hypothetical before the post you were quoting had the Lions giving up picks 4, 24 and Patfull.
The one before that had the Lions giving up Patfull for GWS's second round pick to on-trade that - we'd be better off just packaging picks 4 and 24 and keeping Patfull.

Bidding happens before trade period. If Collingwood uses their first on Moore it's locked, they can't do anything with it.

No bidding on father sons is before trade week and so if you are not prepared to use your first rounder and someone bids before 8 you lose him.

No - father son bidding is done before trading starts. We would have done this for 8 that we used on McDonald.

Both would have gone before 8 anyway. It's still a good result.

OK here's my try

1. Brisbane trade Patfull and 2nd round pick (est 24) to Sydney for Sam Reid and pick est 36

2. Brisbane then give Collingwood Reid, pick 36 and Pick 4 for for Beams and pick pick est 27

So Brisbane
Gain: beams and around pick 27
Lose: pick 4, patfull and around pick 24

Sydney
Gain: patfull and pick 24
Lose: reid and pick 36

Collingwood
Gain: pick 4, Reid and pick 36
Lose: Beams and pick 27
Switch out Patfull for Leuenberger, and I reckon it's fair for everyone involved. Problem would then be if Brisbane wants to give up Leuenberger though.

If we are going to give 4 & 24 for beams need to get pick 23 from gws for Patful so we can then use pick 23 for Harris Andrews

Gee you have to be quick around here.

Beams and Ryder the 2 massive trades will have a lot of twists before this is over. 4 plus a player but the question of how good a player is the key. A top 4 pick is a big carrot.

Academy picks are done before trading can occur. We'll know whether or not we'll be using pick 24 on an academy talent before the Beams trade is even thought about.

I think he played a lot more neafl games than you realise. Injury did not cause him not to be selected in the back half of the year.
There is injury and there is match fitness. Lack on continuity plays havoc with the latter

For a lesser side (like mine) he would have been straight back in.

For the minor premiers on a rampage - it is bloody hard to get back in once you miss a bit of footy.

not bad, only issue is pick 4 is likely to be a KPP and they're getting another one at 8, so I'd swap Reid with someone a little smaller.
Agree I dont think we need Reid. Not as much as we need a midfielder anyway. But the basic premise is right. We need pick 4 and a very good player for Beams.

Picking up 40 plus disposals a game would usually mean you are fit enough.
I think he got 60 didn't he?

Still - it would take 2-3 weeks back at AFL level to get back to pace - and given everyone was performing who was he going to kick out? Particularly with finals approaching

Cunningham was tagging and Bird was the sub

From memory Mitchell was in the 22 at the start of the year - that is a fair indication of where he was rated before injury

Cunningham is a tagger - so he isn't exactly fighting for the same spot.

Bird is the one - who is more a zippy half forward than a midfielder.

Sydney were settled and made it hard getting back in.

Personally I'd be happy throwing Pick 10 at Mitchell with some steak knives

Theres's no way on hell that Brisbane is going to trade Hanley. It's reported on the AFL website that Collingwood asked for Hanley and Brisbane rejected Collingwood.
