nominations for academy picks are done not the selection itself and trust me the beams trade is all there talking about !
Sigh. The selections are done before trade week. Nominations are on Friday. Bidding is done on Monday morning which locks in any selections bid upon the academy/father-son kids. Upon completion of the bidding, trade week starts.

So Collingwood get beams for 4 and Suckling for 28. Not quite enough. Maybe Hawthorns second rounder our way.

Why would GWS even want shoey they have enough key fowards and key backmen ?

Thanks for all the replies that clears it up and makes sense
You were given incorrect info:
Collingwood nominates him, (which will be official on Friday) and then on Monday morning, (before the trade period starts) the other clubs can bid if they wish.
If no-one else bids we take him with our last pick.
If teams below us, (Saints, Melb., GWS, Lions, Dogs, Bluesers, Gold Coast) nominate him we can choose to use our 1st round pick to match it, if we don't we lose him.
If teams above us nominate him we can choose to use our 2nd pick to match, if we don't we lose him.

Bottom line we don't have to nominate a pick unless someone else bids for him.

So being a better player means someone is more entitled to go home to see their sick Dad? Only Collingwood fans....
I really wish people would stop with this tripe.

He only wants to go home to see his dad at the right price.

Goldcoast would be in it up to their necks if they thought they could match Brisbane's contract offer.

its not irrelevant fun and games happen with the bidding process just saying need to keep a second round bid somehow to ensure we can get the kids we have been looking at
You seem a bit befuddled.

We can't lose a pick before the bidding, there is literally no opportunity to.

Also, bank on the fact that our academy kids have been overrated again. I'd be moderately surprised if any cost us a second rounder.

That's exactly what I posted. Nominations are done this week - Friday. Selections are done next week - Monday morning. Before trade week.

Feel free to look up the reference thread on this very forum, or on the AFL site. We and every other club can only use picks we already have pre-trades for bidding on academy players.

Let me get this straight. Collingwood want a little more than pick 4 for Beams and they want a ready made player. They need class out of their back line

And you think you're not getting enough here. Be prepared for there to be no trade this year. The only way you're getting a better deal for Beams is if he is happy with a trade to another club.

Or you finish I. The bottom 3 next year and the AFL thinks he's worth band one.

I get you're dirty but he's not on the open market

Carlton will bid on him, guarantee it!!!!

If only to stop what happened with Jack Viney a couple of years ago.

I read the article re: how hard collingwood were thinking about not using pick 1, thought it smelled like propaganda aimed at picks 5-7.

I think it would be interesting if they did risk it, and traded pick 8 back to the lions for pick 4 and Aish. I even think the magpies would swallow that trade, if it meant they got moore anyway...
