1. Connors said he hasn't been offered as much as the $700K being speculated in the media so he won't be on 800 and will be on similar money to Leuenberger which is probably not a lot more than Rocky, Rich and Hanley.
2. If anyone on our list demanded a trade I would be surprised if we got better than pick 4 for them in return so despite him possibly being the highest paid pick 4 makes sense.

Given he's contracted our first 2 picks is a good deal for both. Collingwood can accept that or wait a year when they'll most likely get less in return.
I like the Collingwood fans saying that they have to get quality for him (and fair enough), and saying they want Hanley (contracted longer than Beams, hasn't said he wants to move), Rich (signed until end of 2016 and hasn't said he wants to go) or Redden (end of '16, hasn't requested to leave)... fair enough they want quality, but what they want, they have no realistic chance of getting. If Collingwood don't want any fringe Brisbane players, then they should be trying to get whatever picks they can so they can pry that quality from another side. Brisbane will assist in that respect

Brisbane are saying nothing more than pick 4 which in reality will be pick 5 after the Frawley thing happens. That's their line in the sand.
If by "line in the sand" you mean "ambit claim a week out from trade week" I agree.

If you mean "our non-negotiable last offer" I think you are misreading the play - the ever predictable pre-trade courtship dance.

I said in a previous post, it's all posturing at this stage.

But to this point we can only go on what's been said until something else is said.

Tom Mitchell isn't leaving Sydney, just putting it out there. What people have been saying we'd get for him is way unders anyway.

18 games in 3 seasons. Maybe Sydney are undervaluing him. I'm sure he will stay next yr. but if he doesn't get a decent run of senior games soon, he will start getting itchy feet and plenty of suitors with caneston at the ready

Depends if he does a list cull straight away. That is not the trend in the first yr, but anything is a possibility.
Yeah, it's the only way he'll have space for Beams.

A list cull not such a bad thing for GC, they have a lot of talent all at the same age, diversifying it would future-proof them more

There would indeed be a lot of high drafted talent not getting a gig. And if you could clear some deadwood if the possibility of a Beams arose, you'd be doing it.

How do you get him cheap next year. If he walks, he goes into the draft. And there will be a few before your mob looking to grab him. He's not restricted until the following year. Even then we can match your offer.

2017 he can be yours unfettered. So in the mean time......
He can go in the PSD next year with a price on his head. Not many clubs have the capacity to pay $800k/year over 5 years. Nor would many be all that keen to pay that much for a guy who wants to go to Brisbane.

Do you even know what port received for burgoyne? Let me clue you in, it's a hell of a lot less than pick 4.
Port got 2 first round picks for Burgoyne + a player. Burgoyne was also 2 years older than Beams, had never won a club B&F and was out of contract.

I don't see why Brisbane should take major advantage Beams' unfortunate personal circumstances. Beams is a better player than anyone on Brisbane's list and Collingwood has quite reasonably said they don't just want early picks. Brisbane can still come out ahead in the deal by trading one of their better players - and it would not be surprising if a player could be interested in moving to Collingwood, a well resourced, well run, successful club.

Port got Pick 9.
Port also got Pick 16.
That is your trading guide right there.

Burgoryne was out of contract.
He was older and had missed some football with a bone on bone injury to his knee.
Hawthorn also weren't making Burgoryne their highest paid player.

Well, Port got pick 9 and upgraded their pick 24 to pick 16 and got Jay Nash - not in Essendon's 22 at the time... It's not exactly 2 first-rounders and a player

Free agency has changed the valuations significantly this yr. if Frawley is worth a pick 3 then Beams is worth more.

Much like real estate, you are in the current market, not last yrs or previous yrs markets.

Hypothetical

Brisbane
Gain - Dayne Beams
Lose - Pick 4, Joel Patfull, pick 24

Collingwood
Gain - Jonno O'Rourke, Pick 4
Lose - Dayne Beams

GWS
Gain - Joel Patfull, pick 24
Lose - Jonno O'Rourke

Collingwood might ask for more.. so might GWS.
I don't know... this trade is a hard one.

Burgoyne was also going to a side where he would be about 10th in line for pay at best, and about 10th best player.

He wouldn't walk into a team as the highest paid, number 1 player in their team.

I really want us to get Beams, if that means we have to give up a Rocky, or a Hanley or a Rich or a Redden - then we should do it. We won't get many opportunities like this again where a proven elite player wants to come to us, ironically under the go home factor!

Pick 4 + Redden is about right for me.

Frawley isn't worth 3 on the open market - he is only worth 3 in compensation... that's reasonably easy to understand, right? Compensation does not work on market value

Pick 3 is pick 3, no matter how it comes about. And in this case, it's the value put on a player. Similarly Collingwood can put a value on a player. And it seems Swann has seen that and bemoaned the value of Fraeley because it makes his job harder.

No it's not... defeats the purpose of WHY we are trading for Beams.

He will be best 22 next year, no doubt. Missed the first season due to injury and never looked back once he got his chance in his second season. This season he simply wasn't in the team due to structure, which will definitely change in the pre-season. Only went out of the team due to injury and was incredibly stiff. Look at his stats. Should have been in for Reid, but Horse was too stubborn to change the best 22. Plus, I don't think he'll be overly fussed, he's getting 400-500k a year.
