And who are you to say what is a genuine mental illness? Why do you feel the need to cast doubt on him by using inverted commas? Mental health issues can strike in different ways at different times and I'm certain neither you, nor I, nor anyone else commenting knows the whole story or the complexity of Beams' emotions.
Exactly like you im a lover of football that doesnt know sh!t from sherlock and just calls it as i see it and with Beams its just all too convenient from when he first started out wanting to go home due to his fathers ilness to wanting to come back. Just 1 month ago he he was posting great pictures hiking and having a great time. Now there are words about gambling and other things.

Maybe every time the word ' Mental Ilness is mentioned we dont become so gullible and just swallow everything thats fed to us, You have taken the high ground with this now maybe enlighten us to what you know we dont as the entire Collingwood board is talking about the exact same things i have mentioned.

Lets just take another player as an example that Had mental issue's as well as drug issue's that was at Richmond, Chris Yarran
He went away and couldnt deal with them and came back to the club and talked about it and gave up a 3 year deal for peanuts payout of something like $100k

Beams has been on sensational money since he went to Brisbane and continued to get well payed, Looks to me like he has 'issue's' but still knows how to collect very good pay cheques

Oh okay, so you admit you know nothing, but feel the need to pass judgement anyway. Good to know.

So you're unable to go hiking if you have mental illness?

What can and cant you do if you have mental illness ?

I suppose you can also go to the casino as well ?

But cant train or play footy
Of course you can. You can still do everything. But id say things get to a point where everything gets too overwheling and you need to step away. Only Dayne knows what his situation is. Im sure if he could push through he would, rather than being criticized left right and centre for being a dud trade, getting paid for no output etc

Do you admit you are an expert in this field ? Maybe put up your qualifications

I know as much as the next bloke which is SFA as i have not gone through this but just about every step Beams has taken the last 3-4 years it appears that he has facilitated a great deal and had no issue's when its needed but has not delivered.

Simple - Walk away from the contract as Yarran did and deal with your issue's , He should have enough money to have set himself up and noyt need the remainder of the deal. Or has he blown it away gambling and maybe thats causing these issue's as i know i would be pretty depressed if i lost alot of money.

Maybe stop tip toeing around the issue and not let any body who say im depressed off certain things. Whilst what im saying does not apply to every body seriously suffering and i do have a huge amount of empathy for these people im just extremely wary its being use abused in some instances

And im fine with that and can totally understand what he does but lets be hones here , Dayne has been in this merry go round for 4 years and the Pies and Lions were extremely good to him to facilitate trades but he needs to own up to his end of the deal and take time off and retire and relinquish the remainder of his contract as others have and not take the club/s for a ride. Own the problem i say

Yeah which is probably contributing to his state of mind also. I guess he figures he'll see if he can get right as he still has something to offer. 🤷‍♂️

I'm not the one accusing someone else of faking a mental illness, I have nothing to prove and made no claims to being an expert, this is just garbage you're inventing. What I do have is first-hand experience of mental illness, and having met several people with depression or anxiety, who I talked about things with in a support group. I can tell you from that, that mental health issues can lead to erratic behaviour, but they are not always obvious to all and sundry, and that you should believe people when they say they're going through a tough time and have to leave their job to cope.

I know as much as the next bloke which is SFA as i have not gone through this
In that case you'd think you know better than to make judgement calls about it, but maybe you routinely make sweeping declarations about subjects you're entirely ignorant of. Within the same post you admit that you don't understand the issue but also claim the solutions are simple.

Maybe stop tip toeing around the issue and not let any body who say im depressed off certain things.
What exactly am I letting him off from?

Whilst what im saying does not apply to every body seriously suffering and i do have a huge amount of empathy for these people im just extremely wary its being use abused in some instances
Nah, BS. If you had empathy you wouldn't be appointing yourself the judge of whose mental illness is real and whose isn't.

I still don't know why they just don't come out and say, the man has a gambling problem.

It might actually inspire other people with gambling problems to seek help.

Playing the "mental health issue" card is a cop out, and detracts from people who have genuine mental health issues they are battling.

Just like illicit substance use and Lance Franklin's "mental health issue" 😏

Because maybe he doesn’t have a gambling problem? Or maybe his problem has led to mental health issues?

I love how everyone just sees some rumour or screenshot on the internet and automatically believes it and starts attacking the bloke.

The lack of empathy in this thread because Beams is perceived to be a problematic gambler is dumbfounding.

It’s also the case that addicts are liars and manipulators and that is as true as all of your points.

People who suffer debilitating conditions like depression and anxiety shouldn’t be made to feel like they have to act as if they don’t.
But addicts who lie to people to protect themselves and get what they want shouldn’t be treated the same as that.

All addicts? All the time? They never tell the truth?

The point I made earlier and touched on again above is he lied to his team and the club and everyone.
I don’t have respect for people who are prepared to act that way.
If you want to cut him some slack because you think he deserves it as he struggles with his emotions or his self worth or the way he looks at the world or the way he thinks people view him,
thats your prerogative.
I’m have my view because of his actions, not because of what might have clouded his judgement.

Excellent, that's your right. I have never said that his actions or words were good, only that it's rich for people online to play armchair psychologist on whether his mental illness is real or not, when those people have little to no knowledge of the subject.

When I saw a psychologist years ago she was sitting in an armchair. I didn't think it was much of a problem she was.

It isn't lack of empathy at all

Most folk can indeed empathise with his position.

But on the other side of the coin, he is a grown man, not a baby, and must accept some degree of culpability for poor life choices.

And what’s to say he isn’t?

A heap of assumptions being made in this thread.

Call me entirely old fashioned, but I am firmly of the belief that a grown man is entirely responsible for his actions

I can only presume you disagree, which would make for an interesting discussion of adults and decision making if I had the time to entertain it

Each to their own 🤷‍♂️

Agree with your first point, but mental illness (depression, anxiety etc) can have nothing to do with your actions. The speculation hes depressed because of huge gambling debts or drugs could be nothing to do with why hes struggling. So your suggesting hes made a few blues, so he needs to just man up and be responsible? Ok
